The crowd really bonded because we all fell over from laughing, bent double, and banged into each other. 27:10 "MDSE ST" is "Merchandise Subtotal". Since in the US we have to do tax separate they add up all the prices first into a subtotal then add the tax(es) on it. Now of course if there are things on the receipt taxed differently (produce, prepared food, liquor) there need to be more than one subtotal and the appropriate tax rates applied to each. It does look silly, though, to have a subtotal for only one item, but nobody said America made any sense.
