Is he the best winger in world rugby?
I don't know about that, its difficult to compare different styles. But he is clearly someone that EVERY rugby fan wants on the field, and that whats matters right?
He is the player who breaks the most tackles on the planet (75%) and has averaged more than one try per game over the last two years. In France, he's known for being completely mad and unpredictable. You never know what he's going to do next. He also has an incredible sense of timing when it comes to interceptions. Kolbe is a phenomenal player but I think his game is much more stereotyped (speed and explosiveness) compared to Penaud who can invent anything and everything and unlock situations even with 3 players on his back. His big weakness used to be defense, but in recent years he's made a lot of progress, even if it's often not very academic. At the moment, I think Penaud can bring more to a team than Kolbe.

Kolbe is quality but I think Penaud just edges him in attack!!! I’m not French 🇫🇷 and he’s my fave winger in the game right now…I think he gets so much stick for no reason 😅
I tend to agree that Penaud gets a bit of stick from everyone in the southern hemisphere…but what a player!!!
Even if there are great wingers all over the world, Damian Penaud is hands down the best one in 2024!

@@rugbybuzz I really don't know if he is the best, it's very subjective. It is difficult to compare him to other great wingers, in any case he is certainly one of the most gifted players in the world. As for the French, it is true that Bielle-Biarrey is an extremely talented player. And let's not forget Teddy Thomas, who hasn't been in his best form in recent years but is also an exceptional winger.

At club lvl it's the same, Kolbe (Toulon, Toulouse, Stormers) scored 53 tries in 162 games (0.32 try/game) while Penaud (Clermont, Bordeaux) scored 80 tries in 150 games (0.53/game)

nope: his form after the ball goes past him is very french he doesnt play the whistle he plays his opinion, barbarians 2022 WRC vs NZ, he waits for a tissue to meet his tears other then wait to hear the whistle! my only observation that is negative
It is a toss up between him and kolbe. Penaud is deceptively fast. He edges kolbe when it comes to try scoring. Kolbe edges him in kicking and defence.
