Christmas is always at peak magic when we’re young, at least I think. As a small child, I remember decorating, baking, singing songs; all with my family. When my parents separated, I lost the chance to celebrate with everyone together. Then my mom looked for any way to sabotage my time with my dad during the holidays. She would constantly call and berate me about anything just to make sure my time with him wasn’t any warmer than my time with her.
Now with her gone, I miss being able to have her around at all. Then my father is halfway across the country with my sister, and my brother is the other half of the country beyond him.
However, my wife and I have the chance to make the holidays our own. And should we be blessed with our own growing family, we’ll do everything we can to make sure our kids hold onto the magic of Christmas as long as they can.

Lyrics:
The tree would glow, the songs would play,
We’d laugh and sing the night away.
When I was young, the world felt bright,
The holidays were pure delight.
I see us there, my family near,
The scent of pine, the warmth of cheer.
The lights would shine, the tinsel gleam,
A world of joy, a fleeting dream.
But time has ways to pull apart,
The ones we love, the beating heart.
Scattered lights across the years,
Memories wrapped in joy and tears.
The magic fades, but still, it glows,
In the love we give, in the life we know.
Teenage years, the chill would grow,
Divided homes, the silent snow.
My mother’s voice, it weighed me down,
Her sorrow carved a hollow crown.
Yet through the cracks, I’d find my way,
In fleeting moments, love would stay.
Now I’m older, the past feels near,
I miss the voices I can’t hear.
My mother’s gone, my father’s far,
My brother’s out beneath the stars.
But here you are, my guiding light,
Together we’ll make this season bright.
Scattered lights across the years,
Memories wrapped in joy and tears.
The magic fades, but still, it glows,
In the love we give, in the life we know.
One day our home will fill with cheer,
With laughter loud and love sincere.
For though the past may dim and fade,
The light we build will never stray.
