    EDIT: I stand corrected.
    33:40 The correct play (aiming to win) would have been to put the Raffine trigger on Raffine itself, then discard 2 nonland cards. And then Go for the Throat on Angel with No More Lies back-up. Then he would have had 3 flying attackers against 1 flying blocker and any 2 attackers had combined power of 5.
    This would have not worked if Ikawa has spot-removal, but in that case you Arne is not winning anyway.

      He knows he's been holding a herd migration since the first Deep-Cavern Bat. So 5 damage isn't enough to kill with no backup against herd migration.
      I think the announcers mentioned something about Tidebinder, but he really needed another removal spell off of the connive to kill the shark, and to not be negated.
      He played towards his outs and the target of raffine's connive trigger ultimately didnt matter.
      edit: Hold up, the target on Faerie Mastermind was correct because in the event that Ikawa survived the attack he needs to attempt to protect his creatures as best as possible. One's a land, raffine has ward, and Faerie Mastermind doesn't even have a big enough butt to stop it from getting shot by an angel. So Faerie Mastermind was the best target. He also just dies on the crack back. But if his removal spell didn't get negated he had to 2 mana to chump block from the Virtue of Loyalty. Another option was to accept that he wasn't going to win that turn play Deep-Cavern Bat before combat to take the negate, do his play (now no negate to stop the angel from getting shot). Put the opponent at 2 with the land being protected from the sunfall he knows about and hope his opponent doesn't top deck anything. But ultimately if the goal was to kill his opponent that turn he didn't do anything less optimal because that negate was really hard to sniff out. (especially since he should feel decently safe from the herd migration heal)

    Honestly Sunfall is such a pushed card. If it was a "destroy all" rather than an "exile all", it would be more fair. The exile just incidentally shuts off so many effects in a way that hoses aggro and midrange.

      It hoses a lot of random stuff it really sucks to play against. Probably the best card in standard.

    Did Yoshi miss his life gain from the Angel at 30:07?

    • @dr_volberg
      @dr_volberg Місяць тому +1

      No, the 3 life gained was negated by the 3 damage dealt by the Faerie Mastermind

    Am I the only one that noticed Arne drew 4 with the Lorian and 2 faerie masterminds? Shouldn’t he have only drawn 3?

    Watching Domain and UW Control decks is such a drag, wish those decks wouldn't exist in the format ;p and definitely wish they weren't in the finals of the PT ;p

      I agree on the UW, UB or UWB "winconless" control decks but Domain can actually win in the mid-game. It's just that it never gets its undisturbed early development.

    This is why draft should be a whole separate tournament because Arne only went 6-4 in standard shouldn’t have been in top 8 at all.

    • @triangleman4926
      @triangleman4926 Місяць тому +11

      The whole point of the pro-tour is to show off players that are good multi-format players. There are heaps of standard only, or limited only tournaments.
      Arne compensated for a slightly lower standard record with his excellent limited record and still did well. That's the beauty of the pro tour. Removing that would ruin the basis of the pro-tour.

      Being good at MtG is more than just being good in only limited/contructed.

      This is like saying that someone should not get a medal at a triathlon because they swam slower than most, but then made up the difference in cycling.

    • @awsomegadgetguy7191
      @awsomegadgetguy7191 26 днів тому

      What, you want there to be a limited only pro tour? I think that in order to fully highlight the skill of a magic player they need to be able to both build and play decks well, and limited highlights deck building better than constructed in most cases. (especially if top 8 has 3+ of the same deck)

      @@awsomegadgetguy7191 Well, there used to be limited only PTs with a TOP8 draft and everything.
