Excellent advice that I couldn't agree with more. A few years ago I took a solo bike tour starting in Amsterdam. My route: Amsterdam>Utrecht>Breda>Antwerp>Ghent>Bruges>Ouddorp>Delft>Rotterdam>Dordrecht>Gouda>Leiden>The Hague>Gouda>Amsterdam. This was more than I had planned but I enjoyed exploring the cities so much I ended up taking some detours. I stayed with locals along the way using an organization called Frienden op de Fiets. It was a wonderful experience.
Thats awesome, Ghent and Bruges are amazing as well. Next time you're out here you could also try the east side. Groningen, zwolle, deventer, nijmegen, maastricht and maybe into Germany Aken and Köhln
I sort of agree this is the top 7, but why not make it a top 10 and include Groningen, Zwolle and Deventer?! It also really depends what you're looking for, Rotterdam is a unique city in NL, so are Utrecht and The Hague. Appreciate Amersfoort at #2, great choice having grown up there lol
You're right. But I just haven't filmed those places yet. Groningen and Maastricht are some of my favorites, but again, haven't filmed them. Thats why I included the (within in hour from Amsterdam line).
One hundred per cent agree as a Dutchy. The majority of Dutch cities have beautiful medieval / 17th-century style architecture. I'd highly recommend skipping Amsterdam. I visit our dreaded capital only once per 4 years or so and every time I am reminded there are many alternatives (that don't come with the perpetual smell of weed in the atmosphere). Myself being from Zwolle, which has beautiful medieval buildings that date back to the time it was part of the Hanseatic League.
Nice list, but... If you like typical Dutch 17th-century cities within an hour of Amsterdam, I would definitely add Haarlem and Alkmaar to this list. A little further than an hour, but definitely worth it: Dordrecht and Zwolle. But Groningen, Leeuwarden, Middelburg, 's Hertogenbosch, Nijmegen and Maastricht are also definitely worth exploring. The Netherlands is so much more than Amsterdam...!
There are many more beautiful cities a bit further away. It's a very small country so most cities are within 2 or 2.5 hours from Amsterdam or Utrecht. Some of my favorite cities are Haarlem, 's-Hertogenbosch, Groningen, Deventer, Zutphen, Maastricht, and some of the smaller cities in Friesland like Dokkum or Sneek.
@@travelihis het een idee om een Hanze tour te maken? Doesburg is nl ook ontzettend leuk, heeft ook een Hanze museum. Ooit met gemak een dag doorgebracht. In de plaats dan, want Lalique museum oa.
Some recommendation cities from every province in Netherlands (some have just 1 some have more) Noord-Holland: Amsterdam, Volendam, Zaandam (Zaanse Schans), Hoorn (VOC city), Alkmaar, Haarlem. Zuid-Holland: Delft, Leiden, Gouda, Den haag, Rotterdam, Schiedam, Kinderdijk, Brielle. Zeeland: Middelburg, Zierikzee, Vlissingen, Veere Utrecht: Utrecht, Amersfoort. Noord-Brabant (or Brabant for short): S’-Hertogenbosch, Breda, Bergen op Zoom. Flevoland: Nothing special, maybe Urk (was a village island is now part of land). Friesland: Leeuwarden, Sneek, Franeker (has worlds first Planetarium). Groningen: Groningen, Bourtange (famous star shaped fortress city) Drenthe: not a city but has the Hunnebedden (boulder dome graves). Netherlands oldest structure from 4000 bc. Overijssel: Zwolle, Kampen, Deventer. Gelderland: Nijmegen (Netherlands oldest City), Zutphen, Hattem, Arnhem, Elburg Limburg: Maastricht (second oldest city Netherlands), Sittard.
I think this is a pretty good list, but I would also mention Veere (Zeeland), Haarlem (Noord-Holland), Elburg (Gelderland), Schiedam (Zuid-Holland), Kinderdijk (Zuid-Holland), Brielle (Zuid-Holland)
great choices of cities. have you been to eindhoven? it s less old and beautiful. but many festivals and lots of innovations. It is i believe the most international place with residents. ASML and Brainport are big player here....
