Your tip on smelling the roses reminds me of a little anecdote.
A friend of mine hates artichokes with a passion. Her husband loves them and was pestering her to grow some. She was complaining to me, concluding with “what’s good about artichokes anyway?” I remembered my mother telling me about an aunt of her who fled her home for a short while during WW2 because of bombardments. When she returned all of her artichokes had flowered and couldn’t be eaten anymore. But they looked beautiful. So I replied: “Apparently if you wait for too long to harvest them they rurn into the most amazing flowers.”
My friend still doesn’t like eating artichokes. But she doesn’t mind planting them and taking cate of them while they’re growing. She always lets one or two grow to full maturity.
