I can list great centre backs who played brought success for Madrid from the 50s & 60s era throughout the 80s & 90s too but Sergio is above all with extra leadership/important moments & goals, countless heroic moments for club & country, record breaker history maker one of a kind & true gladiator, just a winner who knows nothing but to win as failure not an option. From a Barça fan,Ramos is a legend,he won absolutly everything and he scored many important goals.That being said,Ronaldiño and Messi embareced Ramos so many times its not even funny...Really I feel a bad for how terrible he looked in some clasicos,at the same time theres is no shame being ridiculized by Ronaldiño and Messi....Aside of that and being dirty player I think he deserve be considered one of the best defenders ever,specially the last years,he carry Real Madrid so much some games I started to give some credit even

Football is a sport right? one thing we should all agree on is football players should have sportsmanship so when a great player like "Messi" dribbles you & you attack him from behind that shows me that you don't have sportsmanship & you don't really love football & all you care about is winning at all cost... Now if we're awarding this title based on twitter hits, likes and dislikes, hype and all that then, maybe...Let us set the bar, hopefully and good one, Franz Beckenbauer, Franco Baresi, Paolo Maldini, Roberto Carlos, Carles Puyol...these players have, clean sheet defending, great ball defending and dare I say class act professionals, rugged and tough, but class act players. I don't see Sergio in this category and somehow I don't think he would disagree.
He is top 3 of all time.The only ones i would put above him are baresi and maldini.

What are the the achievements in terms of his footballing career? for example you indicate Franco and Paolo, I love these two of course, so in comparison to defenders like these, where they had clean sheets galore, during their long career at AC Milan, with the National team, in world cups, I mean accolade after accolade...Sergio, on the other hand, quite a few goal fiesta fiascos with Real, he endured major beat downs by several opponents, in La Liga, UEFA, World Cup, so as a defender, I’d like to see any comparative data that proves Sergio’s defense was as superb, as let’s say Franco Baresi or Paolo Maldini...even his contemporaries like Puyol tend to have better defending skills or for instance, Roberto Carlos Galacticos defense line was a force to be reckoned with. Not the best defender in my view.

Yeah No. Average on central defender position average on the left/right back position and average on defensive middle field potion. Excellent free kicks and headers from stoppage but I don't that makes him best of any position. I don't even won't to start naming better defenders because the list would be too long. jayden Levert I am in my mid 40s and indeed watched load of Baresi live in early 90s. Different level in terms of defensive awareness and commanding the backline compare to Ramos. Baresi was also excellent to launching from attack.

As far as defending skills and intelligence, not that great. Many individual defending mistakes, many clumsy moments. Sometimes he suddenly goes into idiot mode.. lots of red cards which is never a sign of good defending.
