This particular hurdy gurdy isn't 1000 years old though. It's a modern version of a medieval instrument which originated about 1000 years ago. The reason being is that as time went on the hurdy gurdy slowly started to fall out of favor with people, to the point that the only way you can see and hear one was in the hands of drifters and beggers, to the point that in the germanic speaking areas the people that used it where called, and you will have to fact check me on this one, lierman, and the conenectin was rather negative . +Carrotttt You've got to check some balkan accordion work... I'm serious that does it too
"I remember when Vladimir told us about that one time he went through the adventure of his life."
"Hey Vladimir, tell us what happened that one time again."
*[Vladimir looks up with a horrified expression as he suddenly relived that entire cursed moment]*
I dunno, I think of an eastern European having a flashback or a nightmare when I listen to this.
Really cool to hear though.
+Tarik360 HAHHAHH WHAT THE FUCK MAN AHAHAHAA
I got a silly imagination.
at 1:15 I imagine some kind of folk dance-ish thing going on if you exclude the Nightmare/flashback thing.
+Tarik360 you got a good imagination because you're describing my life
+Ivan Yurchenko So, a Folk-dance, crazy adventure or having strange dreams to the tunes of hurdy gurdies?
+Tarik360 the perfect combination of both :)
I have never seen a Hurdy Gurdy played like this. The electronic additions are impressive.
Pirate synth.
When you’re a simple priest feelin’ it after the death of Akhenaten
*Fredrik Knudson does one video about the hurdy gurdy*
Mate get ready ready for a whole lot more views, keep it shredding \m/
Why you think I'm here?
Yup, that's why I'm here. Wow that was epic. 0_0
Just got on the hurdy gurdy train myself. What a unique sound.
2:39 I'm so obsessed with this part i literally can't stop repeating it
Same, it just scratches an inch in my brain

It gave me a full stack of god apples and a totem of undying.
Byzantine Empire had pretty nice taste in music
Not really there kinda weren't computers there to cycle the music and this was a calm instrument, thing that most people don't like.
@@ogalo1653 just use two of them
@@ogalo1653 they wouldn't like cause *no amplifier*
Christian Templar woosh...
But i thought this was a french instrument.
Also the scale he uses is more middle eastern
I'm gob smacked, so fecking awesome. Never heard this instrument as far as I'm aware. A great introduction
Aaron Hydes The interesting thing is these instruments are thousands of years
Aaron Hydes made in the 9th century, 1100 or more years ago
I've watched this video like 10 times it's so good. And yet my friend's brother hates the sound of the gurdy. Unbelievable. This is one of the most amazing instruments I've ever heard, plus the extreme talent that went into writing and recording this song.
Looks and sounds like something that crawled right out of Majora's Mask.
Hahaha! how did you know that I am a big fan of Zelda?
+Eric Jackman Also a perfect fit for any Prince of Persia installment :)
And when that bass track starts up, get your dagger out and hope you have enough sand...shit's about to get REAL!
+Guilhem Desq please do a legend of zelda song
that's so true
It looks like a medieval weapon
ZionSype Well you could probably knock someone out cold with it if you swing it hard enough, or play badly enough.
Though the last point is true with most instruments, notably bagpipe and accordion.
Looks like a boat
ATTACKERS!
Where? You mean the musicians?
NO THEY WIELD WEAPONS
I only see instruments
ZionSype play like him at 3:30 and im sure the enemy will get creeped like hell
Sounds like you could make pokemon dungeon themes with this...
Professor Hakase Shinonome I thought that too. It sounded like pokemon at some point.
you're thinking of the bagpipes.
Or a sonic mania level. 😉
It sounds like Gen 2 gym battle music
3:30 I smell a Gym Leader
ah yes the crank powered guitarcellofluteorgan
my favourite
the looper bit at the end is rididulousley good
Damn, those Byzantines really knew how to party.
>tfw a 1000 years old instrument actually makes music that sounds like 8-bit cyberpunk tunes.
Nah it sounds like Egyptian metal
Well this is an electric hurdy gurdy. The first half of the song is classic gurdy but after 2:15 he starts playing the electric parts.
@@2plan4fancy33 I searched the comments looking exactly for this, it's the first thing I thought of
This particular hurdy gurdy isn't 1000 years old though. It's a modern version of a medieval instrument which originated about 1000 years ago. By that logic you should be leaving comments like this to every video where electric guitar is used. (Actually guitar like instruments are much older than 1000 years, more like at least 4000 years)
@@AZURNERUB His comment wasn't about guitars. His comment was about a hurdy gurdy sounding like 8 bit cyber punk. I dunno how you got the idea he was comparing anything to a guitar.
Imagine having one of these when you’re in like middle school or high school or something and just pullin up to band class on the first day like “Bitch lemme show you how it’s done”
You were bullied huh
*gets music project*
“What’s so good about this instrument”
3:00
“...”
Why aren't these things more popular?
You got 19 different iterations of string on wood with hole and then there's this analogic abomination that looks like something Leonardo da Vinci would come up with while drunk and somehow the first is more popular than the latter?
honestly
Thanks Obama
@PolySaken no kidding
For a long time it was associated with beggars and the blind
The reason being is that as time went on the hurdy gurdy slowly started to fall out of favor with people, to the point that the only way you can see and hear one was in the hands of drifters and beggers, to the point that in the germanic speaking areas the people that used it where called, and you will have to fact check me on this one, lierman, and the conenectin was rather negative . Only reason it even survived was cos of the french aristocracy liking it cos it sounded to them like they where having a simple peasant life. Tho the hurdy gurdy has had a come back in the last 60 or so years also do to the french bringing it back and spreading it ones more
Always heard this instrument in folk metal. Glad I know what this is now
After 10 years this performance gets never old for me.
So good I feel like I should stand up and applaud at the end even though its on the PC, Bravo!
togethia I did and feel no shame. I would recommend doing the same. This is too amazing not to be applauded.
Its better when it's sped up
The Pope: *walking through the Vatican*
Also the Pope: why do I hear boss music?
Fun fact: it was firstly used in place of the organ before the organ became popular in churches.
I like how this starts out 'eh' but then becomes the theme for a fucking Jojo's Bizarre Adventure villain
+SageOfTheWest wich is awesome because the OST of this thing is just pure testosterone induced bliss.
Why JoJo? It sounds so much better than JoJo.
Lord_Llama_God D O N O T D I S R E S P E C T J O J O
In my opnion it fits well either as an alternate theme for the Egypt arc, or an alternate DIO theme
Myamurr Actually, it'd be kinda sick if they redid the Egypt arc in the SBR universe and this was the theme the whole time.
I never knew how much I wanted an electric hurdy Gurdy
I thought Arin was making this up, but this is awesome!
SinistARGH man game grumps points me to cool stuff
bassfunkmaster85 Agreed. This is pretty awesome.
SinistARGH Definetly amazing, such a cool sound :D
Also, appearently VERY expensive oO
SinistARGH please give me the full name, i CANNOT for the love of me find anything on youtube only by typing Arin Hurdy Gurdy. you guys are making me so curious!
Game Grumps. Type it in the search.
WOW! I've been playing multiple instruments for 25 years, and never have I seen something so amazing.
This instrument is sadly often portrayed as silly by the mainstream media. #HurdyGurdyLivesMatter
Gary Oldman TBH this looks and sounds awesome!
The name's not helping.
Probably because it has a name that sounds like the Swedish Chef came up with it
It looks cool and sounds awesome, I think it's the name and the fact that it's not that known about lmao
Giradox I didn't want to say it out loud, so I'm glad that somebody did. It's still 900% awesome. I discovered it only today, and I'm in love with the sound.
0:28 those harmonics are beautifully haunting, love it!
I need a 10 hour version of this theme... Is awesome!!!
Serolero loop it 🙃
Holy mother of WTF! That was BAD. ASS.
I love remembering this exists
it almost has an electric buzz to it. it sounds both ancient and modern at the same time.
