    Even thought it's getting to be a while since you made this, thanks, I'm actively looking to get one of these. I also have used this way of looking at power to weight for years - I figure anything with 10lb per hp or less is going to be fun to drive. My current Mustang is almost exactly 10 lb oer hp. I bet this rail is a blast. If I can find one similar to yours, I'll buy it!

      It's pretty fast although I had it tuned recently which seemed to actually slow it down a bit. I think the mechanic changed my high speed jets. I gotta have that looked at because it doesn't like to wind out like it did.

    Ran into the same problem here in MI. All the rails that were around 2-3 grand were not all that great or way rough. Anything over 3k was way better. Found a sweet custom built mid travel rail with a 2300 out of state and it is sweet. Had to expand my budget a little though.

    Very interesting, and I appreciate you posting it! I'm building a Meyers Manx Classic II right now and I was wondering about the power to weight ratio and how fast it'll actually be. I'm using a Scat 90.5x84 and was told it'll be in the 170 to 175hp range. It hasn't ran yet but I'm assuming it'll be fun to drive!

    So what's the 0-60 like on this rail? Is it comparable to some of the cars on the list despite having way less power?

    Nice rail, thanks for sharing. Live the dream and make those vw's scream. They can take abuse but ware seems to start when you start the engine. Run it hard and put it up wet. You get too start over soon.

      Hi. I have done pretty well using Kendall Liquid Titanium 20W-50. It has added Zinc for dry starts and flat tappet engines like these air cooled VW's. I will put a link in the description for anyone interested. This is what was recommended by the engine builder at CB performance.

    That has to be Weston, Florida. I lived there for 18 years.... Nice sand rail. I have scales but Im up in Saint Augustine.... Also, I have an engine kit coming from Pat, 2110 CC. Small world!

    • @jakeguitar01
      @jakeguitar01  7 років тому

      Yes! I'm in Weston. Amazing you recognized it. Are you getting a kit, or are you having him put it together and ship it to you?

      I looked at the 2110cc kit I saw on the website. I called Pat and we tweaked the parts to fit my Myers Manx 2+2. It will have 9.5 compression, cam for decent idle and good low-end torque, and changed the rockers to 1.4 to 1, and a few other things. It's coming in a bunch of parts! I'm pulling my Subaru EZ30 and going back to my roots, Volkswagen! I bought in Weston (Arvida) when it first opened. First two hundred houses sold. Love the place! I miss Markum Park. I was always shooting Trap and Skeet there. Keep the vids coming!

    Where did you get the sand rail insured? Im having trouble finding a company that will do it

    • @jakeguitar01
      @jakeguitar01  6 років тому

      Check with the Progressive. Check Haggarty. It's not easy.

      @jakeguitar01  6 років тому

      Yes. I'm still here. In the Fort Lauderdale area. UA-cam doesn't allow video responses for many years now. But, see if you can send me a picture of your rail some how.

    Florida is lenient on registering vehicles of this type. Other states require safety glass windshield turn signals,horn , wipers. Enjoy you buggy while you can.

    What cam did you decide on, Jake?

    • @jakeguitar01
      @jakeguitar01  7 років тому

      This was a custom ground cam that Pat recommended. 274 degree dur x 500 Lift. using 1.3:1 rockers.

    • @pablovdr6539

    what transaxle are you useing

    • @jakeguitar01
      @jakeguitar01  5 років тому

      I'm actually still using a stock IRS transaxle. Ask me how it has not blown up? I try not to drop the clutch every time I take off. I don't race the car. I DO accelerate hard a lot, but I do my best to treat it like the 40-year-old stock transmission that it is. I don't have the money laying around to replace the transmission, so I basically baby the car...

    Hey bud!!! I'm a new subscriber. I'm moving to west palm soon and I'm in the market to buy one of these bad boys.
    Ideally I'd like to customize it with a supercharged v6. Do you know anyone in the area that would be able to do a custom build?

    • @jakeguitar01
      @jakeguitar01  6 років тому

      Hi. That's something that I really don't know. Down here in Florida, there are not many places that do this type of work. Dune buggies are not as popular down here as they are in CA, AZ, NV. In other words, out west is where you need to be. Finding a supercharged V6 to retrofit into one of these old style buggies is not impossible, but it would require some work. Why not just build a kick ass supercharged "air-cooled" VDub engine? CB Performance specializes in this type of thing. They can do almost anything as long as you are willing to pay for it. Then, you can slap it into one of these type of frames or a manx type buggy.

      @tonytwoplates3547 6 років тому

      Appreciate the detailed response. I'm far from a mechanic so I will be paying for it. I just sold my motorcycle and I have about 12k to work with for this build.
      I'll do some research on CB performance. Much Appreciated!!!

    You didn’t click calculate after wards . Your hp to weight ratio is actually 0.1172 no where near those performance cars

    Why didnt you offer somebody $10 - $20 to weigh their vehicle with yours & then without yours

      @Smarty1171 3 роки тому

      Scrap yards always weigh less than actual.
