If I were younger……. (70 year old widow). I would be doing everything you and your family do. Used to do so much of this myself but those days are gone 😢. I absolutely love watching all of your channels. Take Care & God Bless ❤
You have a great set up. City life puts me in a situation where I have to partner with a local rancher. He only does cattle so I’m looking for one that does pork. Found one that I can get meat chickens. Keep showing what you do. Farming is definitely not easy.
Thanks for sharing Misty! We have been in touch with a locate butcher shop and looking to pick up some lard and tallow. I never would of know where to even get it! I learn something everyday from all 3 channels.❤❤ God bless
My daughter is doing this now, too late for me, but I shared this video with her. I keep doing what I can, but she we'll better, already has chicken's and is going down the right path! Thànk y'all and love the videos! Bless your heart!
We bought olive oil from our neighbor! We drive by the trees daily and know the “what” in the trees. I use avocado oil now for frying. It is pricey but it’s worth the cost! It has a high smoke point and is very good! I would love to find lard or tallow that isn’t filled with junk!!!!
I can’t do the full gardening like I used to. At 70 widow with no help. I do buy mostly organic produce from local farmers and can and I use my vacuum sealer so much. Been trying to get pork fat from local meat market to made lard.
I'll be checking out the soap video. I have really been wanting to make my own. Thank you for all you do, Misty ❤ God bless you and your beautiful family 🙏🙏🙏
Your skin, Colby's skin and your children's skin all have a very healthy glow❤ I'm sure it's credited to how you eat❤ Thank you for sharing God Bless 🌻
I love your videos. Really agree with what you say!! You are such an incredible inspiration to me & my sister. We are gardening & canning. Using healthier oils for cooking. Thanks for what you do. You do make a difference in people's lives. God bless you
I noticed how respectful your children are. I saw one peek in and she did not interrupt you while you were filming. She was so polite. You taught them well. I just had to mention that. While growing up, we butchered our own hogs as well. I enjoyed the German sausage the most and still do!! My Mother still makes pickled pigs feet for Christmas. My Mom is going to be 87 in March. All of us girls still make them as well. We all love them too! I love your videos Misty! I love the Macs!! ❤❤
We used to raise guinea hogs and had some butchered and sold some. The lard from these pigs is gorgeous. Pure white and not even the leaf lard. I cooked and strained several times and cooled. Bought moulds and pour the lard into the moulds. Put in fridge to totally cool, then into freezer. Once frozen, I popped the lard cubes out and put in gallon freezer bags. I could take out how many cubes I needed.
Hi Misty, what kind of oil do you use when making cookies, cakes, brownies. Also after you render tallow and lard ,do you refrigerate any of it or just put it on your shelves. Thanks.
I love these videos that you and Colby put out! I have shared your videos for family and friends to learn more. They are watching and learning. It helps that you, Colby and your family is young. It shows the younger people that it’s a great way to raise a family. Love the faith you all have in our Lord and savior! God’s blessings for you and your beautiful family. 🥰💗🙏

No seed oils here either. We purchase very few processed foods, and those that we do- are closely monitored for ingredient changes. Sneaky how they change ingredients all the time. Just getting ready to order a 1/2 hog from our neighbors, and of course I'll ask for the lard to render and the offal (to make dog treats). We buy our beef, chicken, pork and raw milk all from local farms within a 2 mile radius of us. Living rural has benefits 😉
I remember my parents killing hogs, rendering lard when I was growing up. It was hard work but well worth it. Now we go to the Mennonite's and recently a couple has opened a little store with beef, pork and lamb that they raise and process. So worth it. God Bless you and your family!
Trying To Put My House In Order and Prep as much as I can. We are gonna have a few raised beds with veggies and whatever else we are gonna plant. We have two cherry trees and 2 nectarine trees. I would like to put a few apple trees in. We start our seeds in the basement then put them out after the frost season is done, usually around Morhers Day. We have Grow lights on a timer to make sure they get enough. They do really well. Thanks for All You Show Us. Appreciate You, God Bless Your Beautiful Family!!!
I recently bought some avocado oil and am happy with it. There is a privately owned store up the street that processes their own meat, I will ask the butcher if they have pork fat they will sell. I remember my granny rendering fat. We have started working on our 2023 canned items and feel really good about our food security. We are going into a new year with a lot of new ideas and knowledge. Thank you for sharing.
I was involved in a lot of this when I was younger, anymore I have even thought about becoming a vegetarian. I have my own chickens and plant a garden. I think a lot bigger garden is in order this year.
I have been buying stuff to help put up food. My mom always had a huge garden. They raised, chickens, pig and cows. My mom canned everything. I haven't had good luck with my garden the last couple years but not going to give up.
I have tried to find a place to get lard in the city where I live, but none of the meat shops I have asked have had any. They just kind of look at me with a strange look on their face. Guess I have to stick with my avocado and olive oil.
I have to find your canning process. I love how the kids all hep. I could imagine doing it at their age. I want to see how you do the lard rendering. Never made soap, that sounds interesting to do too.
I am not Misty but can answer that question. Mice can chew through mylar bags, don't ask how know lol. The only way to keep mice from chewing is metal containers like garbage can. Or something that they can chew through but don't very often unless used for long term storage is totes.
@@TheMacsLife0 I haven’t made any cheeses, so I give you props for trying. I heard that different animal milks is how cheese types are determined, is that the case?
Love my vac sealer !! Learned to vac seal my jars with dry goods. It's awesome ❤❤
Yes! 🙌

I am 71 and totally agree with you. God Bless!
Same here!
You can do it with a Nesco Electric canner now. So much less work.
Amen🙏🏼 I’m there with you!
Love the Mac's ❤❤❤❤❤

I just love. All the new stuff you and Colby put out I learn so much

I wish that I was able to get homegrown lard and butter but do not have that luxury .Most farmers around us just don't sell or trade, and it's sad.😢
Try to look outside of your community - it would be work the trip if you could get it in bulk!

Being a displaced Texan, it is such a pleasure to hear someone pronounce “oil” correctly, LOL.

When you can lard or butter, how long will they last once opened?
Put in fridge - I’ve kept them in for weeks at least - also smell anything before you use it

I didn't know you could freeze cheese
😊 yes you can
Do you make your own washing detergent? Dish washing liquid? Would love info
I did for years but I don’t currently
I love all ya'lls channels, I watch them all
Thank you so much
Hi Misty! Do you have a shampoo making video?
I don’t - I either use mine or the Brand Everyone
So, when you bake and it calls for oil do you use butter or lard?
It depends on what I’m making and the taste I want / light taste - butter - if it doesn’t matter much, lard
Great information
Thank you for watching!
Misty, I was going to see if lard is sold at any local stores as an alternative to seed oils. Any thoughts on that?
I’d check with butchers first or local farmers
DO YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH MICE AND THE MYLAR BAGS OF DRY GOODS?
I am not Misty but can answer that question. Mice can chew through mylar bags, don't ask how know lol. The only way to keep mice from chewing is metal containers like garbage can. Or something that they can chew through but don't very often unless used for long term storage is totes.
No but if there is a possible risk - place the Mylar bags in plastic buckets
Thank you!
Absolutely
Have you ever looked into waxing your cheeses? Just a thought. Cheese can stay on a shelf for years.
I have tried it before - cheddar cheese is VERY time consuming and complicated to make
Hmmm going to have to try it. Love shelf stable foods.
@ I would just do some of your own research but I saw I few videos here on UA-cam a few years ago.
@@TheMacsLife0 I haven’t made any cheeses, so I give you props for trying. I heard that different animal milks is how cheese types are determined, is that the case?

do you have to pressure can lard ??
No - I use the open kettle method
Alot of work, but it's so good.
