Ripping boards is so dangerous… a friend cut the tip of his thumb off, but they sewed it back on, has little feeling in it. The board can suddenly yank your hand forward, into the path of the saw blade. Very scary operation, probably the most dangerous of them all.

Renting a concrete mixer would have been a great investment, since you have electricity to make it rotate continuously, so it wouldn’t set up until needed. Interesting fact: concrete was discovered and first used to pave a road in the town my husband was born in… Bellefontaine, Ohio, an hour west of Columbus, the capital of Ohio. Cement powder from ground limestone is mixed with sand and gravel, and H2O, and a chemical reaction takes place which hardens it all into concrete! Without cement powder, it would all crumble and separate. Even highways are made of reinforced concrete. And using wooden forms, concrete is poured and walls are formed in one solid piece, even for basement foundations. And mortar, used to join bricks, is cement powder and sand, without the gravel used in making pavement. Not sure what year concrete was discovered, but you can look it up.

Not sure if you know this trick, but you can ‘pour and sweep in’ mixed (but unwatered) concrete mixture in between difficult or small spaces in brick, and then finely mist with your hose sprayer until completely wet. Excess water will drain into soil below, and mix will absorb as much water as needed to heat up and set. The result is a very neat concrete job that seems impossible. When setting posts in the ground, if they will be used when supporting a large hammock, we use the dry mix loosely packed around the posts, then watered in, rather than backfilled with the removed soil. Otherwise, when it rains for days, the earth gets saturated even under the grass, and the posts can shift and break. But when set in concrete, they resist ‘heaving’ in the winter cold, and remain embedded. All construction for homes has to begin at least 2 meters below ground so the foundation won’t shift in the winter months and 2 more meters if there is a basement involved. And for all that you need a backhoe!

They are not yellow, from tan to white skin just like Koreans or Chinese. The climate and resources (and possible warfare conditions) dictate their building techniques. I think they are unusual but very comfortable most of the year. Halfway up the mountain side it’s difficult to transport materials used at sea level on the coast.
Just a spraying remark… we always spray items leaning on a vertical plane, rather than a horizontal plane, less stress on back and can see all surfaces better. Lean short pieces against a long board, and spray one after the other, less jumping up and down to get next piece. Just saying, it’s easier on back and arm and eyes!

I wonder if this is the final exam for a college level construction course… and if it is, my opinion is that she receive 100% - no, 110% for sure. Measuring and cutting always accurate. And she doesn’t even use American carpenters’ motto of “measure twice, cut once”, making sure we measured right the first time in order to avoid costly mistakes. But she is very focused and has a memory like a steel trap. She could have her own construction company, teaching young single mothers how to build a basic home with water, electricity, and three rooms. And working in communal gardens in order to share tools and equipment. And refrigeration for meat and milk!
She must hav studied architecture or civil engineering skills
