Sebelum azab turun, Nabi Nuh dan kaumnya sudah naik ke kapal yang memuat seluruh pengikutnya, termasuk hewan-hewan yang ada di hutan.
Allah tak membiarkan orang-orang kafir selamat dari azab tersebut. Bahkan, salah satu putra Nabi Nuh, Qan'an, dan istrinya terkena azab hingga tenggelam bersama kaum kafir lainnya.
Setelah 40 hari berlayar, banjir pun mereda dan kapal Nabi Nuh berhenti di dekat sebuah gunung. Nabi Nuh dan ketiga putranya yang beriman, yakni Sam, Ham, dan Yafits, serta para pengikutnya turun dari kapal dan melanjutkan hidup baru dengan tetap beribadah hanya kepada Allah.
