Skyler just keeps rising in my estimation of his character and demeanor - calm, interesting, humble. A real ambassador for the game. And a monster on the table.
Met Skyler (and Karl actually too) at the mosconi in Vegas 2022. He was the 1st player I had met at the venue and he was unbelievably humble and gracious, imho anyway he seems like a really nice down to earth guy. I really hope he does well after the switch to cuetec as he seems to have an uncharacteristic miss or two in him every match since the switch, which may be affecting his confidence time to time. Hopefully he gets this ironed out and gets a few more tournament wins under his belt. Top guy! Keep up the good work Karl, really enjoy watching the what's in the bag videos!
An earlier what’s in the bag video from a year or so ago he said he had shot with a sub 12mm shaft and didn’t like it, so changed back to 12.5mm. The playing shaft is 12.25, maybe 12.5 is is limit in comfort.
When Sky was signed by Cuetec, I already anticipated that they would bring out a new break and jump cue for the Avid line since Sky didn't use the Breach and Propel.
Skyler signed with Cuetec a few months after I had bought my avid and when I saw him playing with the exact same cue as mine trust me I was soooo happy and excited. Avid has been my most expensive billiard purchase so far, and to see a top class pro like Skyler playing with this cue while others using twice or thrice as expensive ones makes me feel so good, I cannot explain in words
@@Sacredsnow2 yes, I bought mine after comparing it with some other cues around the same budget and it was and still is the only actual LD shaft available at this price
Skyler grew up a few hours away from me. So I'm a little biased, but this is the real person he is. Definitely good for pool and I can't say that about half the pros.
Watching Sky grow up has been a treat. Super nice humble dude. Karl is top shelf. Blows my mind he's using a sub $300 player Any experienced players here using an Avid for their player ?
Stephen Hendry won the world snooker championship 7 times with a rack cue he found in a snooker hall. Probably under $50 He was never the same player after it got broken. Cues aren’t very important. Pool is so commercialised people get obsessed with spec and detail rather than hours and hours of familiarity with the same cue which is the most important
A friend of mine used Avid for sometime, least over a year or 2. They upgraded to Cynergy a couple days ago and love it. You definitely can't blame the equipment using CF. Also if you like to bang your cue on the table or likes thru passion for the game, Carbon Fiber is the only way to go. You won't warp it as it can take a real beating.
Carbon not for me. I bought a revo about a year ago to slap on my ebony Coker custom. Played it for a few months and sold it. Went back to the excellent stock Coker shaft
@@PercyChips - I agree. To illustrate your point, I've played with a few good house cues and did just fine with them. My old Cuetec SST might improve my play say...3% over a good house cue. But if I were to "upgrade" my old Cuetec to Cynergy, Predator, or Mezz...my play might increase 1% at best. I'm much better off spending my money to practice my weak shots and get better at them, rather than spending money on a new stick.
@@JohnBowl14690 A good ferrule and tip is the most important part of any cue and where most rack cues ere very weak on. Like most hobbies people become obsessed with the kit and equipment more than they do actually practising!
I love the cuetec stuff glad to see Skyler signed with them, wish they would offer 30” shafts though. Great interview as always with one of the best in the game👍👍
Hell yeah Karl and Sky! I actually have three Avids now, I got a Chroma and a Florian Kohler model last year, and just a couple weeks ago I picked up the Woodward “Proof” model. To anyone reading and thinking about a new cue, there is no contest at that price point. Phenomenal cues for the money. And they also work with the Cynergy shaft if you want to go carbon fiber.
Sky uses the 12.25 mm shaft, which is now sold to public. I got this shaft after using 13 mm for years on my old Cuetec. I love the Avid 12.25. It's the perfect size. I tried 11.8 carbon fiber cue which hit well...but could stand the taper. I also tried the 12.50 Carbon stick. It's ok as well, but I can't get used carbon fiber. It's harder for me to control the cue ball.
A solid cue treated well kept in the right environment will last many decades, I have an embassy peradon over 25 years old and still straight smooth and slick.
Would be awesome to bring a little postage scale to these bag vids. Would be really quick to get a on the spot weight, particularly on the playing cue.

11 consecutive 9 ball racks were ran on a cheap $120 Cuetec that Earl Strickland used. The record still stands I believe for an official tournament. There are higher numbers, but not in tournament play. His cheap stick was a wood coated shaft, so go figure.
I would be more than interested in seeing what a matte black forearm, joint collar and butt cap version with four semi glossy black points and an extended solid black irish lenin wrap would look like. A lot of players all around have been waiting for a cue like that.
