Nice game! It was fun to watch. The top score was obtained by point pressing on the first level. To do so, you must sacrifice a life. Also, Brutus is worth 4x more points on the bottom level, so saving the bucket for after spinach helps to set him up.
I figured as much when it came to that top score. I owned a Popeye Cab back in the 90s, never got great at it, but played it enough to know this homebrew is one of the best ports.
In some cases yes. Like the 7800 had better support for multiple sprites but in other cases the nes was stronger. Basically they both had their strengths and weaknesses
This is amazing basically a arcade perfect version of the game much better than the NES version. How did they get the sound effects and music so good when the 7800 used the same crappy sound chip as the VCS?

It also uses a POKEY chip, which is seldom-used on the 7800
