I love Kawasaki design
If they can keep the price competitive, they have a winner here. The Z900 remedies 2 main problems with the Z800: the weight and the seat height. Slipper clutch and a beatiful led dash with a gear position indicator are also welcome. Not everyone likes a mad max looking wheelie machine like the MT-09... I think the only problem will be the new Street Triple 765... If only they could unveil it EICMA 😢

lol why not?! the z900 is in many ways the better bike... 1. it looks more beasty (its a streetfight and no damn chopper-thingy)... it s a better rolemodel than its predecessor... its more streetfighter for the same money... 2. it got more power (yeah depends on what the individual prefers) 3. it got a downgraded Z1000 engin and the z1000 did well over the years compared to the JAPANESO bros ... 4. it s lighter than the Z800 but i guess only about something like 21 kg (but still) ... and so on and on and on
I think it's the most good looking motobike in the market in this segment...

Looks like a detuned Z1000 engine with some similar styling taken off the Z1000 with a twist. Let's see what's the line up going to be like.. Z800, Z900, Z1000?

No. For 2017 the z1000 and z800 will be replaced by the z900 and z650 according to kawasaki.
Bowen Leigh Can you confirm if the Z1000 is going away in the USA? I know the Z900, Ninja650, Z650, and revised Ninja1000 are coming but what about the Z1000? Europe is getting a tarted up suspension version called the Z1000R.
If you go to your local motorcycle dealership website, the z1000 is not included for 2017 at all.

Wonder if the powerhouse brand is going to have something coming out to smash the S1000R, Tuono, and Super Dukes of the market? Supposedly they were going to be releasing a half dozen supercharged models in the next handful of years. Haven't seen that yet.

I have a ninja300 now. I love touring as well as performance. Hence i'm looking to upgrade to a middleweight naked bike which would be perfect for my need. There are three bikes in my list as of now, z900, striple r version(2017) and duke 790(2018). Damn am I confused? A inline 4 cylinder, a three cylinder and a twin cylinder. I want the z900 for the sweet high end performance delivered by the inline 4 and also the big weight disadvantage of the z800 being reduced in the new z900. I want the street triple for the light weight and the sheer riding experience for which its known for. And i want the duke for what ktm is best known for, the quick throttle response at low range and the entire do anything with it attitude of the dukes. If the duke 790 had been a triple cylinder, i would have gone for the it straight away. It looks delicious and also it would be nice on the highways as the extra cylinder would allow me to hit higher speeds and have a smooth riding experience even at high rpm.
Anybody at the same crossroad as me? what do you ppl suggest. I can still use the ninja300 for the cities. So i'm strictly talking about covering landscapes. Help me out :P
Interestingly, I'm in a similar dilemma between the Street Triple S and Z900.
After doing a test ride of the Street Triple, I loved the linear power delivery and supple suspension ironing out bumps yet at the same time being sharp and nimble around corners. For my height of 6ft I felt kinda sitting 'ON' the bike rather than 'IN'. The slightly aggressive forward lean on the Street Triple gave me immense confidence to counter this though. I loved the legendary triple exhaust note coupled with lighter weight will be a joy to own, but what's keeping me from going ahead and buying it is the looks, the new 765 feels a bit more quirky looking and for my frame the motorcycle feels smaller. It felt like I was taming a cheetah rather than a beast.
And here comes the Z900 to shatter those negatives. I'm sitting a bit more upright and the seat height felt just like home. It has that much needed extra muscular body style and looks menacing like a mini Ninja H2 with that Sugomi styling. Sadly though I can't comment on the riding, since the test vehicle has not yet arrived here in Chennai, India. The weight and balance feels more natural like a proper naked for me. Loved the intake sound and beefy exhaust note.
Hence going by the many reviews, I've watched almost all videos on UA-cam, I think this will definitely suit me. This is gonna be more punchier yet more tractable, has more torque, lesser heat due to lesser compression ratio than Triple, costs significantly less than the 765 Triple S here in India.
My personal choice has tipped over to the Z900 after riding the Triple. Have to test ride it soon to finalize it. After having owned Duke 200, Duke 390 I don't want to go the KTM way now. I feel their too raw, flashy appeals more to my younger teenage self. They also don't have a gentleness to them if you want to ride sedately. So I'm not waiting for the Duke 790.

and.. ofcoz a lot of people gonna compare it to MT-09, we don't know yet how the performances is to compare to MT-09. For me, the way that bike looks.. ehh it's okay, but we don't know how does it perform on the streets tho. MT-09 maybe the best bike on 900cc class, just maybe. that's just my opinions, don't take its seriously 😁 duhh

z900 way better than z1000 and z800. lighter and better power delievery. and also way better than yamaha fz09 which is like a dirtbike.
For people who live in urban areas, it would be great if the kickstand wasn't a total design failure.

Honestly, all the other bikes they managed to make it look better, but in case of upgrading the z800 to the z900, they royally messed up the looks and made it look uglier, the instrument cluster though with some more features overall looks like the ones we see on mopeds..... What were u thinking kawasaki?
The z800 was hideous and fat. This bike is much better looking IMO. Headlights give a nod the 2004-5 zx10R while the rest keeps it looking like a Z bike. I don't see the problem.
Bowen Leigh Exactly. It's a very good looking machine. I still like the rawness and clean lines of the 2004 Z1000 but we both know that's not coming back.

Kawasaki is highly overpriced for cheap products they put on their bikes like z900 which has useless nissin brakes,no traction or modes,horrible forks.THESE 3 R SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAFETY FACTORS BUT YA WHEN KAWASAKI GIVES THESE IT BECOMES EVEN MORE PRICEY

they say its "less weight more power" The z800 is 229kg this is 210kg, whilst the Mt09 is just 188kg 70% of the enjoyment of a motorcycle is when you can throw and toss it around very nimbly I own a z800 this z900 will be no difference in comparison, all I see is a downgraded z1000 that is 8kg lighter... might as well go for a z1000 if you're going to get this, as for specs its practically identical to the z800 but a bad downgrade from the z1000. Only thing that's changed is the chassis which will make the most difference ahaha
Srib i wouldnt be so sure. this is 210kg with 125hp. mt09 is 190 with 113hp. they will be neck-a-neck while due to higher hp kawa si gonna be better freeway rider. the problem is the upcoming street triple 765 RS: 190kg, 125hp, Brembos with Bosch lean ABS (same unit from s1000rr), Öhlins suspension and superbe Speed R 5-way traction control. it will be expensive no doubt but worth the money. kawa is also gonna be extremly good value for the money. 125hp for ca. 9k€. Very seductive
