    What are some small box/filler games we should know about?

      Besides the Tiny Epic series, Micro Cosmos by Thistroy Games just came out and its GREAT! Chicken! by Scott Almes is such a fun, quick game that can accommodate 2 to 8 players. Viking See-Saw by Itten is also a ton of fun if you like dexterity games.

      One game I never heard of till a game cafe was selling it off their shelf is Artsee, it’s a light set collection game where when you place a card on a stack you add to the current stack’s set BUT you score for the adjacent stack. It’s a simple game and there’s probably others like it but it might be one of my favorite smaller filler games that I picked up. The others I own are Dandelions and Dead Man’s Draw and I like both of those as well.

    Fika is a Swedish word meaning coffee/Tea time with perhaps a kake or biscuit and you say it as Feeka. Most Swedish work places has one or two scheduled fika breaks a day where you take time and sit down together and talk. This increase efficiency, since everyone takes a break at the same time and there will be much less small talk needed during the workdays work sessions.

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  Рік тому +4

      Oh wow! Love it, that sounds like such a wonderful way to have a break during the day. Thank you for sharing that!

      @@BeforeYouPlay Yeah it is the highlights of the day. Disarably its around a big table or in a big sofa group where you all can have a conversation together. Also most Swedes are coffee addicts during winter, since we get so little sunshine then.

    Thanks for covering our game. I’m really glad to hear that you like it so much. I’ve played it over 20 times now and it continues to provide interesting decisions.
    As a side note, the main reason we changed the setup was to make it quicker. We found it cumbersome to remove 5 specific cards, shuffle those 5 cards, deal 1 card to each player, return the remaining cards to the deck, shuffle the deck, then deal the cards. It was a lot of work compared when the problem could be solved by just adding a few more 1s to the deck.

    Might have to give Chomp a try! I love Dinos but wasn’t looking for light games when the kickstarter popped up so I wasn’t sure I was sold on it enough to add to my small box collection. I chose just to get Sail which is going to be the first trick taking game that I’ll actually own. Your comparison to Point Salad, even though one’s “tile” overlaying and the other’s tableau building, has me really wanting to try it now.

    I have about a hour commute to work, so I usually listen to youtube videos about games. I heard Monique take about Inheritors with Candice a few weeks ago and immediately went to north stars site and pre-ordered.
    Just got it in last week and it's pretty awesome!! I did see someone else said it as well, but in the instruction book I got it does sat to distribute the ones before you deal out starting hands
    Love you guys!!

    I like how Monique’s shirt spelled “ood”, a nice nod to Doctor Who fans 😆 as for my small box game recomandation (most of my collection is made of small games) i have quite a few lesser known: Pieces of Eight, Nimalia (similar to Chomp), Bagh Chal, My gold mine, Spicy, Flip over frog, Love letter series, Martian chess, Chicken. Have fun playing!

    • @JEV03
      @JEV03 Рік тому +1

      Spent the whole video trying to figure out what the hidden letter is for OOD. Current theory is “M!”

    So glad to hear your thoughts on these games. Some I was interested in, Inheritors being the primary one and I’m so glad I did because I’m super excited for this to come into my FLGS. Always trust each of your takes on small box games. Between this episode and the collab with Amy & Maggie I might have purchased a few!

    Chomp or Nimalia, which do you prefer? Which seems deeper? Which seems like it would have more replayability?

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  Рік тому +3

      Hmmm they’re VERY comparable, but probably Nimalia for all 3 questions (note: we did a sponsored gameplay for this one). Just because there’s added depth with the drafting especially at higher player counts, and the way that end of round scoring works. Chomp is slightly lighter but has decent variability due to the scoring side of the cards

    • @andreisteopan3551
      @andreisteopan3551 Рік тому +1

      I have played Nimalia several times and i think that’s a bit deeper with more playability because of the scoring mechanism, you have more control over the way you place your tiles.

    27:09 I know you probably were going to say “she” but then said “Monique”, but I’m choosing to believe that you refer to hypothetical game players as “Shmonique” and “Shnaveen”. You should really use this in rules teaches!
    For instance, “player 1, we’ll call her ‘Shmonique’, places her cleric in the bishopric. Player 2, we’ll call him ‘Shnaveen’, gets skipped that round and immediately loses the game.’
