For Lyon (from Sacred Stones) Heiss (from Radiant Historia) would be a good opponent. Both are princess that felt to darkness thanks to trying to protect somebody they loved (his father for Lyon; his grandson Ernst for Heiss). Both were forced to fight somebody they loved thanks to they themselves becoming villains (Lyon was forced to fight Eirika; Heiss was forced to fight Stocke who was actually his grandson Ernst). Both would end up giving their lives to help not only beat a powerful creature (the Demon Lord/the Time Devourer) but also to help save their respective countries.
For Arvis, I would say a matchup against Zuko would be more interesting, since we both see Zuko at the peak of his power, and he has far more combat feats going for him on screen to judge off of.
Great video! The Julius vs Alucard matchup was my favorite. It’ll be a bit before you get to Engage, but a matchup I would like to see would be The Four Hounds vs The Four Fiends from Final Fantasy 4.
I'm definitely eager to see what you pull up for Narcian, if he gets anything. I've been trying to look for good matchups for him, since he's just such a fun character to write for. Though, considering Michalis and for some reason Raydrick didn't get anything, it's probably unlikely NarNar will.
I'm trying to just focus on primary villains, so its possible lieutenants villains slipped between the cracks. Kind of like why characters like Dedue or Frederick, notable heroes in their own games, weren't mentioned in my FE Lords videos. Doesn't help I haven't played the older games and therefore are less familiar with their roster of villains.
@@TheHearthGuy Dedue and Frederick are more like tertiary protagonists. You can take them out and the story still works just fine, so I'm not worried about them. I just like Narcian as a villain -- he's fun, any of his battles will be fun, so he'd be fun to see options for ^-^ (I'd argue Raydrick is more of a main villain than Veld for Thracia though, since he's the primary big bad up till his death. Veld may be fought later, but that's more a matter of circumstance)
I also find Arvis vs. Ozai to be a frustrating matchup because Ozai isn't even Arvis's most interesting opponent from his family tree. Sozin also betrayed and killed a great hero for the sake of his empire only to die a broken, dissatisfied man at the end of his life. Unfortunately, Sozin isn't that much better when it comes to feats; I managed to scrounge up a one-sided "fight" with Roku, a creative use of firebending during a volcano eruption, and one or two training scenes during his youth. I do have one cool idea for the fight where Arvis declares that he's sacrificed too much to back down now, only for Sozin to bitterly remark that he knows nothing of true sacrifice, referencing how he left his own best friend to die just so his conquest would go more smoothly.
Can we really say that Julius surrendered his soul? His soul was devoured by Loptyr via tome with the same name. So Julius is dead and devoured and we fight avatar of Loptyr on Julius skin suit.
While I do want to ask what exactly makes you bored with Griffith, since you did want to find a good MU for Berkut I was able to scrape up a handful of opponents for him that you could find interesting. Though my knowledge of Fire Emblem is very lacking so I can't be certain if the connections are entirely accurate. I still find your Death Battle videos fun to listen to since I like learning about unique MUs and the way to describe the dynamic does make me interested in them even as someone not familiar with Fire Emblem personally. Marcello (Dragon Quest) - Aloof dark-haired men of noble birth whose lives were unintentionally stolen from under them by the births of their respective brother and cousin, Angelo and Alm (something Berkut was unaware of for most of his life, while Marcello's nobility was lost the moment Angelo came into the picture). - Ever ambitious, both grew up vying to rise through the ranks of the church and become the next emperor of Rigel until they finally met with their brothers for the first time, with both sides completely unaware of their relationships. Marcello quickly found out Angelo was his brother the moment he heard his name, while Berkut was utterly humiliated by Alm on the battlefield, leading both to develop an unbridled hatred for their respective relatives. - Both faced their ultimate downfalls when Marcello got his hands on Rhapthorne's scepter and Berkut willingly offered himself to the dark god Duma, gaining the cursed spear Kriemhild in return. For his part, Marcello actually managed to resist Rhapthorne's possession up until he fought against the party, while Berkut's lost all his sanity in short order. - While their final fates are complete opposites, they still managed to somewhat make amends with their hated relatives in their own ways, with Berkut trusting Alm with the future of Valentia as he laid dying and Marcello aiding the heroes against Juggerwroth to return the favor for Angelo saving his life against his will earlier. Hilmes (Arslan Senki) - Prideful and ambitious princes who were initially in line to inherit the royal throne (The Rigelian Empire and Kingdom of Pars) with their entire self-worth revolving around this fac. Until a major event happened which stole what was rightfully theirs, leading them down a darker path (Berkut learning of Alm’s birthright and the realization that he will never get the throne/Hilmes’ uncle Andragoras took over the throne, leading to his scarring and his father’s death). - Because of this, they harbored a deep hatred for their long lost cousins/the young protagonists, seeing them as those who took the throne from them (Berkut and Alm initially clashing due being on different sides on the battlefield but his hatred intensified after finding his true backgrounds/Hilmes hated Arslan because he’s the son of an usurper). - Driven by their ambition and desire to take down their foes, they would become involved with the supernatural (Duma’s corruption/Hilmes allying with the Zahhak sorcerers). - In their youths, both bonded with a kind and gentle girl from a prestigious background, forming a romantic relationship with them. These girls would be the person who they trust most of all, and the only one who they’d open up their tragic side with (Rinea, a disgraced noblewoman/Irina, princess of the fallen kingdom of Maryam). Their ambitions would lead to actions that tragically affected these girls (Hilmes unintentionally did so) though despite this, they hold no ill will and still loved them unconditionally (Berkut making a pact with Duma which costed Rinea’s life/Hilmes aided the Lusitanian army, where they ended up invading Maryam, leading to the lost of Irina’s kingdom and death of her family) Mugen Ku (Octopath Traveler) - Both grew up as the heir of a kingdom with a warrior culture (Riguel and Ku) and whose royal family has a special link with a dark god (Duma and Vide) that granted them unique blessing (being from the Rigelian royal family allow you to wield legendary swords and the clan Ku has a cursed blood that make them bloodthirsty but also stronger). - Both were expected to be the future ruler of their kingdom but before his death, the king named as his heir another member of his family who happened to the protagonists (Alm and Hikari). In both cases the new heir is actually a person that Berkut and Mugen despised because of their different values (Berkut hates Alm because he wasn't raised as a Rigelian noble and Mugen scorns Hikari's humanity). - Wanting the throne they became ready to do everything to win against the other heir and commit atrocities to gain power (Mugen set the city on fire, slaughtering Hikari's potential supporters, kills his father uses propaganda to label Hikari as a traitor who murdered their father while placing a bounty on his head and Berkut sacrificing his fiancé Rinea to Duma in order to be stronger). - Both are influenced by a dark power be more violent (Mugen was influenced by his cursed blood linked to Vide all his life while Berkut succumbs to madness after deciding to use Duma's power), that power make them more powerful and gave them new forms (Berkut has a different portrait in the final battle and use a powerful lance he got from Duma while Mugen has a second phase called Enshrouded King). Embracing said power but in the end they become fully controlled by it (Berkut is possessed by Duma while Mugen is fully controlled by the clan's curse). - In a final battle where they are fully possessed by their dark power, they are defeated by their rivals to the throne but after their battle, the protagonist with his companions (including the other protagonist(s) of the story) fight the evil god linked to their dark power (Duma and Vide). - Both where formed to command army and to fight in the frontline as well becoming high ranked generals, they ride horses and use physical weapons (such as lances). In Contrast - When the first chapter of Hiraki starts, Mugen already became a monster long ago while when we first meet Berkut he still a normal human. - Berkut loves his uncle and his fiancé while Mugen only cares about power (and has no problem to kill members of his family. - When Mugen dies we learn that the curse left nothing of the human he once was Berkut however at his death regains his sanity, apologizes for his mistakes and recognizes Alm's merits. - Mugen is already a powerful general when the game start and it's clear that in a fight Hikari would be powerless against him, which is why he is forced to flee when his bother kill their father; leading to Hikari to became stronger to succeed in his pursuit of kingship. Berkut however despite his important title still a young warrior and is defeated multiples times by Alm which make him frustrated since Alm is apparently a commoner that in Berkut mind should be weaker; with his desire to win against Alm is what lead him to his fall. Kylo Ren (Star Wars) - Both are of a specific bloodline and were expected to be strong because of it. - Both had their uncle as a father/mentor figure but felt betrayed by said uncle with sealed their fall to the darkness leading to them to kill a loved one for the power of the dark side/Duma's power; the ghost of whom they have killed helping with them realizing the errors of their ways. - Both are defeated multiple times by the protagonist who is expected to be weaker because of a more common birth (even if in reality the protagonist is related to a powerful emperor). Asch The Bloody (Tales Of) - I couldn't find any connections for this one.
Griffith as a character and particularly as a fighter kind of falls into a similar problem that Ozai does and that is how his abilities are limitedly expressed. Sure, you could maybe figure out what his powers would be but as a result of the series he is in he never actually shows off his full strength or has a chance to be pushed physically. Since that's kind of the point of his character. Add on top of that my limited knowledge of Berserk past the Golden Age period (AKA Pre-Fall) and I just sort of get bored of him as a combatant. That said, I do really like all these match ups and wish I'd have though of or learned of any of them.
Lots of fun ones, I really like the Duma and Jedah ones personally. Unfortunately I doubt we'll ever get these unless someone new comes along, old school FE isn't exactly drawing in all the powerscaling/death battle nerds.
Speaking of Kaga games, his other works are also interesting. Wonder if there's any good match ups for Runan, Holmes, and Resse for example. Ironically I think Claude (3H) might be a good pairing for Holmes
I think that Griffith VS Berkut is a bit unfaire, Griffith is too strong for Berkut. Personnally I prefer Berkut VS Mugen from Octopath Traveler II. Arvis VS Ozai is decent but I prefer Arvis VS Roy Mustang because Roy is like a good version of Arvis wich could gave us interesting interactions.
