Next step is to work on improving the accurate representation. DNA has a minor groove and a major groove. One of the strands needs to be shifted a bit to create this effect.
This is well done, but you could make it perfect with a little more information. To draw it to scale it should be 3.4 units (of any unit you choose) from crest to crest on one strand. The strands should be 2 units thick (from top of crest to bottom of trough). That’s pretty minor. The real problem is you have the two strands equally spaced. In DNA there should be 1.2 units between the crests of two adjacent strands to make the “minor groove”. That will leave 2.2 units to the next crest to make the “major groove”. Also, it’s worth pointing out you drew it as a right-handed helix, which is correct, so well done. Finally, this is all for B-DNA, which is the kind we all usually mean, but there are other kinds.
@@shooraynerdrawing it's more than ok for that. In fact, it might be better for most people because it's less complicated. The nerdy perfectionist in me hoped that with dimensions you would find it irresistible to redraw it perfectly.
Thank you sooo much for this very instructive video. I have a very difficult project. My client wants this dna strand distributed around a circle and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to do it without distorting it. Can ANYBODY help me? Please? Thank you.
@@lana-xs8tk Yes, it's VERY hard! I finally got it done and my client was quite happy with it. The trick was that I had to let go of trying to be "mathematically" correct and just wing it. Fact is, very few people know the precise twists & turns and dimensions of the DNA Helix, they just want it to be perfectly recognizable for what it is. They're not going to check your work with a slide rule, calculator and medical journal. In fact, they wouldn't even know HOW! Good luck. You can do it! 👍
Or if you know the sequence of DNA you can easily make an atomic model with my "DNA maker" at www.latech.edu/~bishop/. Type in "ACGT" without the quotes to see a short segment of double stranded DNA that you can rotate, manipulate on your computer. It should even work on your phone
that doesn't mean it is necessary wrong sometimes on the dna strand you can get the same base number of times. the bases are G-C and A-T so you can have GCCCATG and it will be okay
this is still not correct. in a true DNA double helix it's unlikely that the strands are equally spaced. the slight offset from equally spaced ribbons seen in most correct scientific drawings is due to the antiparallel phosphate backbone linkages of the separate strands. 5' to 3' on one side of the helix, 3' to 5' on the other, which should (under most circumstances) form one major and one minor groove.
I have no DNA background but I have been interested on some drawing tools I programmed and one of the tests was just drawing a DNA Helix. You can customize it (colors, number of base pairs, strand width, etc): veleta.rosety.com
I was wondering how many strands each race have, example: Mongoloids, Africoid, Astroloids and Caucasoid races all should have different amounts from what I was taught but can not find any of that information online.
Shoo, LOVE your channel. Might you be able to draw something either Game of Thrones- or Breaking Bad-related? 'Twould be 57 different kinds of cool if you could.

Its not intended for degree level work!!
Thanks helped me with my homework
thanks. im done my homework now. :)
Helping students all around the world. Even in 2022👏
Thanks buddy you help me in my exam thaaaaaaaaanks

Yeah but it’s okay for most high school students who will end up as accountants or check out staff! 👍

Lol - That might not happen 😄
is this going to help me do my homework and in my classroom i really need help in class and home

P.S. I'm working in Adobe Illustrator.

Thanks ! Helped a lot on my homework !
Well I knew what it was. Left hand down or right hand down. Mr Jacobs needs to get out more !!
what was in correct shoo?,
i love your channelxD
Can you show us how to draw a masquerade mask?
Thanks. This was my Biology project!
***** I did, thanks to you.
Nice!! I need this for my project :)) thanks for making this video :)
Ayyy thanks so much man for this!! It really helped me a lot on my homework!!
Glad to hear it!

right in time for my exam, thanks
On the last spiral; the second to last strand- he colored it in wrong. There were 3 yellow and orange bases, and 1 purple and green.

+Shoo Rayner tru
It's fine for boards
I am very happy.
Thank u sir, I really want to learn the structure of helical DNA
please can you draw Matt smith and/or David Tennant
Super sir . I'm Indian boy..
This is very helpful
Thank you for make it easy to me❤
My pleasure 😊
Thank you ! helped a lot for my homework !
This thing is awwesome
You are so very welcomed
And thank you
How can you do that?
those grooves though D:
Watch the video and he says. He didn't have the correct number of strands. He needed to have 10 full strands in a full twist.

It is good But I want the nucleotides also to present in DNA.
You should draw Master Chief!
Thumbs up if you agree.
Helped me with my Home works- from Sri lanka-
thanks sir
Tnx a lot sir🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Estaba difícil, pero mas o menos la hice xD thank you!
jaja :D
great! i love your videos..somehow relaxing.
This isn't accurate the pitch of the helix is too big
thx helped me so much with me project
***** You spelt biology in the desc wrong.
The colours you have used to illustrate the joints are totally wrong .
TEŞEKKÜRLER. 💓
I could listen to shoo talk all day,can you draw a 1964 mustang convertible
nice

Because you were taught rubbish. We all have two … even slugs and bananas
I can't understand.
thax i actually learnt how to ndraw thnx to utube
the DNA has major and minor grooves, you can't keep going every 4 cm or whatever you choose to make it at
It's okay for homework project!
Awesome
Thank you!

why do I need to draw this shit in 12th grade as homework in biology? Thanks dough
because now you've drawn it, you won't ever forget it - the power of drawing :)
Just to let you know shoo the doctor who 50th anniversary is November 23rd :)
Is not true structure of dna
Matt Smith would be nice, if you get a chance. Thanks!
Why don't you draw stuff from The Elder Scrolls series? Try drawing a warrior in Daedric armour fighting a mage (Skyrim).
dear Shoo, for (next) monday could you draw a picture frame
is this right??
You're killing me with this - SOOOO WRONG!!

Doctor Who is AMAZING!
can you make it ACGT chromosome strand instead of only a strand.
You are better! I like your drows
superrrrr
cool helix !!!
all wrong?
Yes you are is correct
This is easy to draw and im only 9 ha!
Night Striker lolololololololololololololol ur the same age as me (now in 2019 I'm 11 to not confuse u)
It would make a great staircase.
no esy yapyapyap
I stiil not drawing it😠😠😠😠
And a Harley-Davidson!
You made mistake. You not draw molecule
Deoxyriboneucleic acid is molecule
Bro this is still not correct lol
I m here because of my school I don't know why
You're awesome man!!! Thank you very much!!
Thanks sir
Thank you!
