- This mini-tutorial shows you how to use After Effects' CC Radial Blur to create beams of light.
There's loads of "how to make a hologram" AE tutorials on UA-cam, but they all seem to miss out the beams from the projector. This mini-tutorial shows you how to use several CC Radial Blurs and Expressions to achieve responsive, changing beams of light.
I’ve published a different method, you can see that one here: • Hologram / Projector b...

L = thisComp.layer("Emitter");
L.toWorld([thisComp.width/2-transform.position[0],thisComp.height/2-transform.position[1],0]);

[Edit: Yeah, I know I've changed the name, but my wife hated it and the joke was starting to get old. Plus this brings these videos inline with my other two series, Makin' and Startin']

I've made another hologram tutorial using a completely different technique, here: ua-cam.com/video/C2JZyU73nzI/v-deo.html
Once I finish my exams, I'm trying this next, thank you very much and keep doing this vids please, they're great :D
Thank you. There’s more to come, and good luck your exams
@@ShiveringCactus Thank you! Good luck with the makins of those new vids!
Finally someone made it! Thank you so much!
No problem! I was so excited when Andrew Kramer showed off the plugin, and it was never released! I'm working on an update to this tutorial - I've found a way that's less render heavy.
@@ShiveringCactus Yeah, maybe he'll release it someday and it will look even better. But until then I'm saving your video to my special playlist :D so when I forget how to do it, I could watch it again
Man you're the best.. Thanks a lot for all your amazing tutorials 💕💕
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them.
thanks bro
You’re welcome

Thank you
Can I use the same technique for making a video holograms?
Yeah, I think so. The trick with video ones is to keep the background dark, so it doesn’t show up.
ShiveringCactus I’d tried to do the same steps using a video instead of image, but I got an error while changing an expression😔
Oh no. DM me on Instagram, Reddit or twitter and if you share your project file, I can take a look for you
@@poormusician9487 Your emitter must be named Emitter , same with the name which is in expression , got same problem and solved it with that way
You legend
I try my best.
Thank you sir
You’re most welcome.
nice work thanks
You’re welcome, glad you found it useful
Hi, thank you for this tutorial! super helpful! do you have suggestions for utilizing this idea but making the projection come from the "front" as if a projector was going onto a wall or building. having trouble adjusting from the tutorial. thanks again!
I’ve just written up a new version for projector beams (it’s not ready to publish yet). I haven’t tried it from the front though. Drop me an email and I’ll see if I can help
I have a problem with the black solid, the lens flare is fine but even with the mode on screen it’s till visible, so I can’t see the background. Any advice? Btw, your videos are very helpful, thanks!:)
Hard to tell what’s on.
EDIT: ignore that bit about CC Circle, I was mixed up as to which video you asking on.
Is the layer mode set to screen or the effect? If you go to my channel’s about page, you can find my email address under the for business button
Thankss Sir!
You’re very welcome. Glad the tutorial helped
@@ShiveringCactus Thanks Sirrrr you're my lecturer 😁
the radial blur projects away from the emitter for me no matter what I set the amount value to
Are you definitely using CC Radial Blur (not radial blur) and are you setting a negative number?
@@ShiveringCactus yup
@@jamesklark6562 try downloading my project file and compare it to yours. Maybe that can help
