If your removing the rocker box assy and it’s set up to tdc on the firing stroke, no need to worry about the removal, all valves will be closed, hence no rockers will be pushing them down, if your not shure just take off the 4 valve covers, if there ‘rocking ‘ it’s ok to remove and more importantly has to be reinstalled using the same method...correct valve clearance checks and adjustments are often overlooked on rebuilds or routine services...
Super helpful video! I just picked up an 83 xr500 and I'm taking it all the way down and restoring it. One of the case covers has a crack in it so I get to learn how to split a case as well.
I’d hate to be stuck in that situation, I also want anything I sell to hold up for the new owner for more than a day haha. She’ll be back soon, I know I’ve been dragging my feet on her lately.
@@GarageAddiction I'm sure it meant a lot to that guy for you to take responsibility in fixing the problem that's unheard of nowadays. I work on cars for a living and I see countless numbers of people get ripped off intentionally across the board everywhere. I've worked at multiple dealers as a technician and private shops and now for myself and nowadays it seems like the normal thing for sellers to disguise a massive problem just to sell a vehicle and to extort people for every dime I've seen some crazy things before. It might not be that big of a deal but I think it's worth stopping and recognizing for a moment.
@@forreststrong797 I appreciate you bringing it up. I love the community and like one of my friends told me "We're all in this together and we need to help each other out in the ways we're best equipped to." referring specifically to shop work but honestly it's just a good life mantra. I sleep better at night knowing I'm not intentionally handing someone a time bomb that could ruin their day or worse. It sucks that you've seen so much deceit I'd say I hope it gets better (unrealistic) but really I just hope more honest people step up and hopefully elevate those around them.
Thanks, bummer about your kickstarter. I'd pick up a shop manual as these bikes have some quirks amzn.to/3fWfWld. It'll probably involve taking off the right case cover, pulling the clutch basket, and removing/replacing the kickstarter spindle then reverse order.

Oh nice, good luck with the resto!
That was pretty cool of you to give the guys money back and agree to fix the bike. Almost nobody would do that
