I don't mean to sound rude, but why do you call it the 2nd channel still? I know it's not your most watched or subbed one,but the viewers here are mostly completely different to your "main" channel.
I guess you could just say "hello I'm toycat and welcome back to another geography video, this is the series.........." It's not a complaint, I just feel like we are a very different audience over here and it's very different videos, so I was curious as to why you called it a second channel, which usually implies it's kinda related to the first one, like maybe outtakes of videos or things related to your "main" channel which aren't suitable for your "main" channel. That's just my interpretation.
Ways to divide Europe: Council of Europe, Schengen Area, Union State, BSEC, GUAM, CEFTA, EFTA, Nordic Council, Visegrád Group, Eurozone, Baltic Assembly, Benelux, EEA, Common Travel Area, European Union, EA Customs Union, Monetary agreement with the EU, Commonwealth of Independent States, CSTO, NATO, CISFTA, Eurasian Economic Union, and Community for Democracy and Rights of Nations. And there’s probably more.
I'll compliment him when he's talking sense, and it happens often. BUT! Not many insightful comments?? There are many intelligent, smart people commenting here who're adding info that he's completely not aware of. You're young and I don't know how many university degrees you have, but it's worth reading some of the comments - you'll be surprised how much you learn - for free... things that you would never be able to google - it's called university + traveling for years + speaking many languages. Stay humble :) no one is making fun of you when you get things horribly wrong or when you're unaware of some basic primary school stuff. It happens to everyone. Thanks for the very nice video.
If there ever formed a Scandinavian federation I can gurantee that Norway would never join. The government may end up in favour of it depending on how hypothetical future elections go, but the majority of the population would never accept it. Norway's been subject to a union with another Scandinavian country for almost 500 years and it hasn't really helped us, if anything it hindered our development. Unions in general carry a pretty big cultural stigma here, which is one of the big reasons why we never joined the EU, despite having two referendums.
It depends on the type of union, but I doubt Finland would join either. Many people would worry about our language getting stomped out with all other countries having a language which is related, at least on some level.
marvelfannumber1 Swedish is taught as mandatory, because it's our second official language. That doesn't mean the Swedish speaking population is large, it's about 5% if I recall correctly. And even that is mostly centered around the west coast and some towns in the south. And even though it's being taught, that doesn't mean people really learn it. You need to actually use a language to speak it properly. It's actually quite a debate whether or not we should abandon it.
That's also pretty much basically why there would never be EU as a country, at lest not with the current members. Memebrs that were part of Soviet block would rather go to war than loose their indepedence again. Europe would basically have their own version of Civil war of US (which was moastly actually coused by South wanting to leave the Union, which they had the right to and North being authoritarian dicks, not slavery, even if it was major issue in the war. A lot of Confederacy actually were for outlawing slavery, but joined it because North didn't want to let those against it go independent like they had right to).
Man I am hooked on your videos, even the accelerated hyper sonic voice speed. lol. If you can do some South America, Central America, especially would like one for Colombia. Peru would be great also, the fun fact, the Inca roads stretch from Southern Colombia all the way to Chile. Chao.
Benelux has been around for ages. The Union of Kalmar is an older version of Scandinavia. Visograd, not Vajsograd! (Visa, vision). (Northern Central Europe) Česki Republik. Malta, Cyprus, &c, the Balkans: Slovenia, Hungary, România, and all points south. (Southern Central Europe) don't forget Austria, it had a part to play in the Balkans. .Eastern Europe : all the way to the Urals. ...
U could also look at the Celtic nations. They have both the Celtic league and Celtic congress who promote pan-Celticism like the Nordic council promotes pan-scandinavianism.
The eu, no matter what people say. Is needed if european countries aside mabye turkey and germany wish to stay relevant and a power house in World and in the future space. No european state has 100 million people, nigeria will be around 200 million in 2050. If europe bands together it is the 2nd largest economy. The 3rd most powerful military and the 3rd largest country by population.
I agree entirely actually, this is one of the best arguments for the EU - however even the EU combined represents around 5% and shrinking of the global population. We actually live in a world where small countries often do best per capita, and given that the largest benefits of large countries are defense and currency - something the EU does not even standardise I don't believe it's as simple as EU = win non EU = lose
Yes, but population doesn't equal wealth or power. We can see that this is how China is arguably the second most powerful nation, with its large workforce, but regarding western values I don't see how a large population could make the EU more powerful
Charles Creed the eu's nations all have high gdp per capita. Together they would have a massive economy allowing for joint investment in arms, science and space. On their own with countries that are reaching their population limits like the uk at around 80 million max. soon their economies will be eclipsed by nigeria, Indonesia, india ect countries that have large populations and have internal expansion room aswell as rapidly developing standerds of living and income. Europe will fall divided or stand united.
ibx2cat I think you've forgotten something very important- diplomatic/political world influence. If the us for example doesn't impose sanctions on NK but the entire EU does, it makes a big difference. If the EU somehow manages to get their gas from Norway or the UK, Russia is doomed. The euro is the second most important currency in the world - regains currency. And defence is irrelevant (and good that it is after so many wars in Europe) - you've got NATO. It's far from perfect, but it's actually "strange" that the UK voted in favour of most EU laws in Brussels but now wants "to take back control" - I'm sure most laws won't be changed cause they're good and make sense.
I live on the island of Britain, and once went on Holliday to the island of Shetland mainland, and then took a ferry to the island of Yell, and then I took another ferry to Unst, the northernmost inhabited UK island. I mean technically at the very top of Unst there's a little rock with a lighthouse on it but you can't really get to the very top because it's owned by the ministry of defense
You pronounce “three” and “free” the same. Is that typical where you are from? I was wondering if that’s a regional accent. I’m from the US, it’s generally just small children and African Americans who pronounce “th” as an “f” here.
I can't get used to calling the Czech republic Czechia, because we had an exchange student from there, and then we went there, and so I'm so used to calling it the Czech Republic.
What about the DACH though? Germany, Austria, Switzerland? They are fairly important and not only culturally tied but also very cooperative economy-wise. And I know Switzerland isn't in the EU, but still...
It gets tricky when Switzerland is not in the EU, partially doesn't share a language - and when Austria is neutral officially. The links between them seem to come mostly down to German language and high quality of life, right?
Yes, that was actually my first one before I started noticing how extremely left-wing their government is starting to turn and considering the fact there is no legit free speech there either. As an entrepreneur I think I have more oppertunity in the US rather than the UK, although Switzerland is also still a close 2nd on my list. Don't get me wrong no hate to the English/Welsh/Scottish, I love the country and culture, just not their governemnt. xd edit: also America is like a mix of people that migrated from around the years 1500-1700 mostly while Europe has diversity that started developing thousands of years ago there is a way bigger contrast in my opinion.
ibx2cat To be fair, That’s not exactly a one for one comparison though. The US is a unified country, that allows lower levels of government greater levels of independence. The US has always been a unified nation (unless you count things such as the civil war, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, etc.) Additionally Not to mention there is a shared history. And while there is a variety of language and culture in the US it is not as great as the EU. I’m not saying anything for or against the US/EU but just pointing out the comparison isn’t the best.
The election of Brexit ?, Brexit... Was our former prime minister David Cameron promising a referendum to voters before the election. The referendum in question was whether to leave the European union. This is because some people in Britain are sceptical or the european union. The referendum was held and voters chose to leave, thus britain is now holding talks with EU representatives on a "deal" with britain leaving... I as a british citizen dont really understand it more than this, but i hope this helps haha
Jesus Kenobi that is about what we know xS other then that the British government kept blaming the Eu even though they had the veto right in the ruling body in the EU so they used the EU as away of making unpopular decisions. Now the deal is in grid lock due to Northern Ireland the unionist want the relation with Britain to remain the same as before and the Irish independent movement want there to be no Borders to Ireland but when leaving the customs union you can't have both. So the deal is as good as impossible without making a brexit only in name (were Britain have to follow Eu rules but not getting representation) or a new civil war in Northern Ireland. And then brexit was mostly about immigration however when the UK leaves the French will no longer accept a proxy border in calais (were the jungle are now)(giant immigrant camp) so they are gonna open the border between France and the French buffer zone making all the immigrants Abel to board the ferry and the British government have no authority before they set foot on the British Isles were the immigrants legally have the right to get their asylum case testet and the UK have signd conventions that make them unable to send them home as long as their safety can't be guaranteed. So it's what could be called a bloody mess that the new primeminister can't win (hence why the former steped down) and no one wants her job.
I watched it this morning - however the number does not mean 65% is against, and this one poll doesn't seem to be the average. More serbs are still in support than against it.
I dont claim that there is 65% against. All I say is that according to the statistic he used its only 35%. Im not a serb and dont know more in depth about that Topic. I should have made that more obvious. If the statistic he used isnt right or not representative for Serbia what I said obviously is wrong as well.
I'm a Dane, and I would say that you probably shouldn't include Finland in the rest of Scandinavia, we're quite close I guess, but not as much as the other countries. I would say Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Greenland and Faroe Islands would fit nicely together. (maybe excluding Greenland???)
If the EU falls, Europe will fall. The EU maintained peace and prosperity for all Europeans and has done more good than bad. Sure it needs a LOT of improvement but it’s been a force for good. If your only reason for hating the EU is hating immigrants, then you need to reassess your opinion because the EU’s advantages FAR outweigh the disadvantages.
We don't need the EU, the European Economic Community was completely fine but now they want a federated European state, which isn't impossible, but it's simply not worth all the trouble, the EU needs to be turned back to the EEC, to make it once again, just an economic community, instead of a political and (possibly) military union.
The EU collapsing doesn't mean that all the European countries will hate each other. They've reinforced the peace, and even if it were to disappear now, that peace would still be maintained. And the EU isn't doing anything to stop Russian aggression which would be the only realistic cause of another war in Europe...
+White Man's Burden The EEC was always supposed to lay the groundwork for a federation, that was the entire idea behind it's conception. Nobody was ever in doubt on what the different treaties that created the EEC said. If you're not for political integration that's fine, but don't pretend the European project was originally just supposed to be an economic union, because that's not true.
I am European and I am kinda triggered by the title of the video. So I imagined the American who have a much bigger national thinking about their country as I have about Europe would be offended much more. Maybe its only me because as a German "divide" triggers my difficult history thoughts. I dont know.
The EU government is currently far more stable than the UK government. If anything, I can't see the United Kingdom being, well, united for much longer.
KasabianFan44 it will. The uk’s market is more precious than the eu’s market. Scotland voted no to independence the only country I see going is Northern Ireland.
Russia has never been communist, am I making myself clear, I am offended as a communist, that you would call it communist, when it wasn't, it was state capitalism
okay, every country that has called itself communist has implemented state capitalism or socialism or whatever - at some point that's the new definition of communism. In the same way liberal means something different to what the word itself used to mean.
Wait, 1/4 of Polish Pomerania can listen to Nordic Council? How does it work? Poland doesn't have autonomous states, and the marked teritory isn't even the full size of Ponmeranian Voidvoship. (I really don't remember how they are called in English). Does Tricity elect the listeners, or what?
Cyprus 🇨🇾 geographically belongs to the Asian continent but culture wide it belongs to Europe. The same is with the Caucasus Region which is as well geographically associated with Asia but not culture wise. It really hard to define where the continents end. Because the definition "A continent is a continues landmass ideally separate by large amounts of water." is very vague. Because the only thing which keeps Europa Asia and Africa separated geographically is the Suez Canal which is man made and does not really fit the "large amount of water" statement. Therefore the continent should actually be called Afro-Eurasia. For North and South America it the Panama Canal again main made. That's why the Spanish speaking world often sees American only as one continent. Than we have the debate of Australia is a country, a continent or booth. Or is it Oceania but what about all the minor Islands in the Pacific. overall it's a mess. The only continent humans can actually agree on is a separate continent is Antarctica 🇦🇶. Long life Antarctica!
North and south america are much close to being separate continents than eurasia. North America and South America have pretty well defined border in the isthmus of panama and Africa has a pretty well defined border with asia on Sinai. But the Europe and asia border varies depending on who you ask.
I call it Afro-Eurasia as it's all connected. Europe is referred to as a continent for social, cultural and political reasons. Afro-Eurasia can be further divided into Africa and Eurasia.
Richard Brennan Everyone knows that Serbia is a candidate state and is negotiating its access to the European Union. Last month the European Commission presented a document entitled "The Western Balkans Strategy", which states that Serbia and Montenegro could probably enter the Union by 2025!
Serbia is kinda confusing. On the one hand they are very Russian-influenced, nationalistic and independent but on the other they will be joining by 2025. Weird.
The thing with Visegrad is that we have our experience with things being imposed on us. First by Austro-Hungarian Empire and Germans, then Germans and Russians and now some EU countries and Germans again! (fun fact: we do not dislike Germans despite them being dicks to us since forever). If they just stuck with "please take some.... choose yourself who you want or a least send Greeks some money and we may may even implement some of your ideas" it would be a different story but they instead went with "you have to, you must, you have no choice, fuck your ideas and fuck you you racists"... and it let us and the rest of the EU where we are now which is kinda sad tbh.
hej cat the passport unionen is still in effect, it means that you as a nordic residence, you can travel between nordic countires without holding a passport you just need any kind of ID to cross a border. nordic residence do aswell have the ability to earn other nordic citizenships faster. too not all nordic countires are part of EU and therefore are not enjoying free movement in the EU
how should you know, no one reads what the Nordic council does anyways.. but aparently they have made it so that nordic ppl can work and live without permit for 60 years inside the nordic countries and citizens of nordic countires are equal to native applicants and higher education. aswell as providing fixed taxcodes for ppl working and living in different countries. what a rapidhole i got send into... tack(se), tak(dk), takk(no) thou have no clue on finish, faroaish, greenlandic or icelandig :D
ibx2cat their passports are not required within the Nordics for travel as ID is tracked by the same system. Norway is also part of the Schengen area so anyone with Schengen visa or ID can pass through. you still need a passport if flying in or travelling by ship. As Brits stubbornly refuse to have personal ID cards a passport is needed
You missed the most obvious divide, which is the old iron curtain split between East and West Europe. It’s still reality in many ways on an economic and social level
Neither of them are leaving the UK though. Northern Ireland is adamant to stay with the UK, and to integrate further. And Scottish nationalism is dying down.
Dot Dash It is true... Northern Ireland is still very pro-UK, and would be willing to give up the EU entirely to stay in the U.K. The Channel Islands wouldn't leave, that's idiotic. Scotland leaving is unlikely, especially with their close economic ties with the U.K., and that they'd never be accepted into the EU because of Spain.
Luxembourg has the low taxes,
Belgium knows a lot about cuisine,
The Netherlands is that stoner friend everyone jokes about but really likes.
YoshiThe1st not really. Everyone mocks Belgium not the Netherlands. The Netherlands is more the arrogant, more rich brother/neighbour.
Menno Duhen thank you for calling me rich
Menno Duhen Yeah true kinda (btw my name is Menno too!)
Belgium isn't even a country and Dutch are really clever hence successful

And fun fact, Benelux has a higher GDP than Russia or the entire african continent :D
Snowcold Benelux has a higher GDP than Russia? Source?
Not more but almost. so yeah. Still hes kinda right. Depends on who you ask, I guess.
Fucking Texas has higher GDP than Russia.
using PPP, Africa has a GDP of $6 trillion, Benelux has a GDP of $1.5 trillion, Russia has a GDP of $4trn.
Nick Hine I think he means gdp per capita
Poor Malta got forgotten :'(
Malta is an island, right?
VersusHeaven and a country
Yeah it's an island country located under Italy
What I ment is Malta is an island contry. And one of the divisions ToyCat suggested is... "Islands". Sooo?
thou mostly known for being a tax heaven, and having very relaxed laws on companies who do cambeling or other things.
I love how this video was uploaded in the middle of geography class when my teacher taught us about the EU
When I read the title I thought you meant in a bad way is in "lets divide and weaken the EU to destroy it" sort of thing
Wow this guy sounds alot like Ibxtoyat!
I don't mean to sound rude, but why do you call it the 2nd channel still? I know it's not your most watched or subbed one,but the viewers here are mostly completely different to your "main" channel.
Red Viper true i watched almost all of his second channel but never watche his main hahaha

Belgium is a province of the netherlands.

Make a video about the Visegrád group. They seem to be very interesting countries excpecially because they have been together since 1300s.

You're 100% of one of them lmao

Because Romania and Moldova are Latin speaking countries too and they're in Eastern Europe
Estonia is REEing internally while you talk about nordic countries XD
Ussurin Poor old Estonia. :^(
it wants to be Nordic and is pretty much there but has other influences (Baltic, Slavic, Germanic) that drag it outside the circle.
@@SantomPh But the skandinavian countries are germanic..
I was expecting you'd talk how would the EU countries be separated if the Union stopped existing
All of the nordic countries have the same flag design, but with different colors.

If there will ever be a United States of Europe I'm moving to America immediately. hell no
I mean like, you know America is like... a united set of diverse states though right? :P Wouldn't the UK be a logical place to move to?

these videos are sick i love geography/countrys and stuff maybe we can do a video together someday
I know one way to divide the EU *cough* Referendums *insert Parliament noises here*
What was that about Prague?
BTW the way u said Vyšehrad was cute

So it's what could be called a bloody mess that the new primeminister can't win (hence why the former steped down) and no one wants her job.

Fun fact: Only 35% of Serbs wanna get in the EU. (Watch the Video about China investing in the Balkans by VisualPolitik EN)
That will not happen.

Terra Ball I can't say I hate the EU as an entity,I hate the way it's being run
The EU has helped, but NATO should get most of the credit for peacekeeping.
+White Man's Burden
The EEC was always supposed to lay the groundwork for a federation, that was the entire idea behind it's conception. Nobody was ever in doubt on what the different treaties that created the EEC said. If you're not for political integration that's fine, but don't pretend the European project was originally just supposed to be an economic union, because that's not true.
I thought this video was gonna be a 'how to' political takedown...
maybe that would be a fun video too
I dare you to do "5 Ways To seperate the USA up". Or are you too cowardly to loose half your subscribers?
Why would it offend Americans to do that? I try not to do America centered videos too often
I am European and I am kinda triggered by the title of the video. So I imagined the American who have a much bigger national thinking about their country as I have about Europe would be offended much more. Maybe its only me because as a German "divide" triggers my difficult history thoughts. I dont know.
Pls don't
A united Europe that is what I desperately want to see within my lifetime. ♥
united yes - unified no.
That would have disastrous consequences on the average European

I can’t see the EU lasting long tbh.
lol I guess you are british? Nothing will happen to EU...
The EU government is currently far more stable than the UK government. If anything, I can't see the United Kingdom being, well, united for much longer.
KasabianFan44 it will. The uk’s market is more precious than the eu’s market. Scotland voted no to independence the only country I see going is Northern Ireland.
How exactly is UK's market more precious? Also, you know you are screwed when you say "the only country I see going is Northern Ireland"...
Ivan Buncic well Scotland voted no to independence. People who keep whining over it are very immature. It’s like a quarrel in a playground!

Ahmmm just to say Kosovo is Serbia! :)
KOSOVO JE SRBIJA
Russia has never been communist, am I making myself clear, I am offended as a communist, that you would call it communist, when it wasn't, it was state capitalism
okay, every country that has called itself communist has implemented state capitalism or socialism or whatever - at some point that's the new definition of communism. In the same way liberal means something different to what the word itself used to mean.
ibx2cat just don t use the word communist, use the word authoritarian
Wait, 1/4 of Polish Pomerania can listen to Nordic Council? How does it work? Poland doesn't have autonomous states, and the marked teritory isn't even the full size of Ponmeranian Voidvoship. (I really don't remember how they are called in English). Does Tricity elect the listeners, or what?
Kosovo is Spain.

Make a video about Sealand!!
Benelux is an predecessor to the eu
There's no way that Serbia will join the EU. They're looking east to Mother Russia and the Eurasian Econmic Union.
Richard Brennan No, they Will join by 2025. Get informed!
fabioshire97 source?
Richard Brennan Everyone knows that Serbia is a candidate state and is negotiating its access to the European Union. Last month the European Commission presented a document entitled "The Western Balkans Strategy", which states that Serbia and Montenegro could probably enter the Union by 2025!
fabioshire97 "could join". I'll believe it when I see it :)
Serbia is kinda confusing. On the one hand they are very Russian-influenced, nationalistic and independent but on the other they will be joining by 2025. Weird.
Well at least we're not trying to blow up korea
The thing with Visegrad is that we have our experience with things being imposed on us. First by Austro-Hungarian Empire and Germans, then Germans and Russians and now some EU countries and Germans again! (fun fact: we do not dislike Germans despite them being dicks to us since forever). If they just stuck with "please take some.... choose yourself who you want or a least send Greeks some money and we may may even implement some of your ideas" it would be a different story but they instead went with "you have to, you must, you have no choice, fuck your ideas and fuck you you racists"... and it let us and the rest of the EU where we are now which is kinda sad tbh.
hej cat the passport unionen is still in effect, it means that you as a nordic residence, you can travel between nordic countires without holding a passport you just need any kind of ID to cross a border. nordic residence do aswell have the ability to earn other nordic citizenships faster. too not all nordic countires are part of EU and therefore are not enjoying free movement in the EU
takk for the tip! I wasn't aware they didn't need passports because it is a passport union, now I know :)
how should you know, no one reads what the Nordic council does anyways.. but aparently they have made it so that nordic ppl can work and live without permit for 60 years inside the nordic countries and citizens of nordic countires are equal to native applicants and higher education. aswell as providing fixed taxcodes for ppl working and living in different countries. what a rapidhole i got send into... tack(se), tak(dk), takk(no) thou have no clue on finish, faroaish, greenlandic or icelandig :D
ibx2cat their passports are not required within the Nordics for travel as ID is tracked by the same system. Norway is also part of the Schengen area so anyone with Schengen visa or ID can pass through.
you still need a passport if flying in or travelling by ship. As Brits stubbornly refuse to have personal ID cards a passport is needed
Islands have islands, just like family!
Vote for Nordic Union! Haha
TOP TEN INSANE ANIME PLOT TWISTS
You missed the most obvious divide, which is the old iron curtain split between East and West Europe. It’s still reality in many ways on an economic and social level
There is also "Latin Europe"
Not sure what to call it or even if it is ok to group it together
this, my friend, is 1 way to divide the EU.
Germany needs the 1914 Borders!
Thanks for a great tutorial!
Well it's time to divide it even more thanks to the UK finally leaving in 2019!
*Claps*
if scotland leaves great britain will they become little britain?
don't forget Nother Ireland (and maybe Guernesey and Jersey (maybe))
Neither of them are leaving the UK though. Northern Ireland is adamant to stay with the UK, and to integrate further. And Scottish nationalism is dying down.
OrangeDude bullshit
Dot Dash It is true... Northern Ireland is still very pro-UK, and would be willing to give up the EU entirely to stay in the U.K.
The Channel Islands wouldn't leave, that's idiotic.
Scotland leaving is unlikely, especially with their close economic ties with the U.K., and that they'd never be accepted into the EU because of Spain.
