we ordered two dozen Novogen's in March after your recommendation. . After a tussle with a bobcat we have a healthy flock of 20. These girls are still laying 16-18 eggs a day. Thanks for the insight.
Is using the plate alongside a lamp safe to add extra warmth within their dwelling? I wonder if the light was affecting the chick's decision to move to the other end, possibly the want for complete/near complete darkness that it might have quickly became accustomed to.
It be done safely although probably overkill imo. Where the heat lamp is needed is the 24-48hr after getting birds shipped. The light is also a good idea for the first night until they learn where the food and water after that they don't need light.
Well that was an interesting video. I dont have chicks. Im just watching videos. I do garden though (in the California desert, 😳, lol) I've thought about raising chickens but feel its just so terribly hot here in the summers and im just unprepared (knowledgewise) to have them just yet....we shall see
It gets hot in my town (90-115) routinely in the summer and the Novogens can handle it. White Leghorns are notoriously adept at dealing with heat. Good luck if you decide to get some birds.
I started crushing charcoal in my coffee grinder and mixing with the feed, no pasty butt except one sight case and it was not clogged up, not totally sure but it was the only change from my norm with chicks. I don't think it could hurt. Did the chick make it?
Char might be a good Additive I haven't tried to incorporate that yet. I might give that a go. The chick did not make it. We only lost one chick in this batch and they are thankfully beyond the pasty butt stage.
Another informative vid. Thank you so much for taking the time to post.
You are most welcome:)

They are machines through the first year! Glad they are working out for you. 👌

I just got 20 new egg lawyers about 5-6 weeks ago. How many hens do you have all together?
We have 19 currently of laying age. What kind of layers did you get?
