Here it is recycled, the plastic bags it is put in goes into the プラ PURA separation (light plastics, styrofoam and other bags goes in that), ペット PETTO is for normal hard plastics like drink containers. So it helps keep things clean and fresh. If thy was just tossing it out in the normal trash, it would be bad.
@@Its-Kat_ unfotrantely plastic can't be recycled in the same way as something like glass. Everytime its recycled it degrades, so a plastic package can't be recycled into a new plastic package. Rather its shreds are used in car tires or clothing fibres which become those pesky 'microplastics' that end up in the ocean :( . Even if its being aggressively recycled, it would still be much better if they just used the packaging that nature provided (peels, skins, shells). Do small local greengrocers also use this much plastic by the way?
Oh, geez! Hopefully I'll find markets where fruits and veggies aren't wrapped in plastic everywhere!!! Thanks for showing us a virtual shopping tour!! :) ❤
Thank you so much! I'm currently on exchange in Japan (Nagoya) and am also Australian. I am not vegan yet but have decided to finally slowly transition. I've taken so many screenshots. Thanks a bunch.
I remember it snowing in Tokyo earlier this year - it was pretty cool! Thanks for the vegan shopping tips - it is a bit of a challenge being vegan here. The sheer amount of plastic packaging and plastic bags drives me crazy - another useful phrase if you want to refuse something is “dai jo bu desu”. Literary it means “it’s ok”, and if you wave your hand and say it when they pick up a plastic bag, they get the message that “it’s ok, not needed”.
I'm going to be going to grad school in Japan, or at least I'm making preparations to, and was worried I would have a hard time finding certain items. Thank you so much! I am at ease x)
I was shocked for a moment when you said the Lasagne sheets had egg in them, because I always buy them from Barilla, so I checked, and at least here in Germany they don't have eggs in them xD I wonder why they do in Japan? At least now I'm prepared, I would've bought them in Japan without checking the ingredients at all xD
when you were biking in the snow it reminded me of when i first moved to Finland back in 2017. I'm still here, I have a car now but that brought back major memories lol.
Thank you so much for doing this video! I'm trying to eat a more plant-based diet, and I think this video will be a great help when I go shopping this weekend. Cheers!
Thank you for all the tips! It will be easier to buy groceries during my next trip! And a little tips : if you have shops like "Lawson 100" the avocado's are 100yens, I saw that during my last trip during January! Perfect if you like avocados like me 😂 (in France during summer it's around 1 euro for 5 avocados 😱😱😱😱)
I think people are so hardline on the issue that people often forget they don't HAVE to commit to one way of eating or another. I was vegetarian for years, then went back to eating meat, but I find recently, when cooking for myself, I typically skip meat. You are right, it is nice to be able to include vegan or vegetarian options.
Very impressive. I know being a vegan is not that easy wherever we go. I am also impressed that you are eco/green conscious that you bring your own grocery bag! I know everything in Japan is wrapped in plastic (even plastic is wrapped in plastic!): I am from there! This upload is totally informative and also entertaining. You hardcore biker in snow!
@@Books_Anime_92 it's true they recycle, however it's still not a considerable percentage of the total plastic waste and they do send trash to other lands just like other countries :(
I just wanna say that to all that are worried about the amount of plastic being used in japan, while yes it is frustrating to see the copious amount of it used unnecessarily, Japan has a really incredible recycling/ garbage system.. probably one of the best I’ve seen! Please look into it if your really concerned.. I stayed in Japan for awhile and had to sort through my trash because so many things are recyclable there and certain parts of packaging (like labels or stickers) need to be removed and recycled separately!
That's cool, but even if it's one of the most efficient recycling systems world wide... it's still plastic; massive amounts of non-biodegradable unnecessary plastic that could be easily avoided and that will have the same end no matter how many times it's recycled
thank you thats so helpful im vegan and going to japan soon, i love mushrooms can i bring some back on the plane to uk also can you get humus in japan, i eat lots of that
This video was recommended to me from Currently Hannah's channel. Love the video. Would like to visit Japan one day. Plus I do a vegan diet. So this has always been a concern. But curious about when you go to restaurants. The challenges you face and to see if it's more plausible than I think. What mess??? Looks totally normal and clean to me. At 12:16. If that's messy, then idk. lol Had to sub. Looking forward to more videos ^_^
I also like so much that supermarket! Where I live there is one that I love but it’s super expensive and another one “Seiyu” that’s it’s good but I don’t know if it’s have a soy section
Thank you so much for the video! I think I’m gonna try to be vegan for the animals so I would commit this. Never eat or like so much vegetables but it’s sooo healty for your body

Single plastic wrapped lemons.... That one killed me
I nearly shed a tear
Yeah lemons have a very thick peel
its crazy isnt it, i noticed in other vids ive been watching going round fruit and veg that japan loves its plastic! so unnecessary
3:56 "The best thing about being vegan... is you get to skip a whole section of the grocery store."
I think you might be right.
Haha yeup! Saves so much time!
How annoying is it that literally everything is wrapped in plastic when it doesn’t need to be 😩😩😩
Isabella Neophyton right!! It’s very frustrating but surely one day it’ll be far from this much

are the animal biscuits (at 7.31 min) really vegan? because the packaging says it contains, butter, fish oil, milk fat?
