That and personal studies show that another important reward from learning multiple languages is that it increases our cognitive skills. Students with two or more languages (given the right academic circumstances) do better in most subjects than monolingual students.
And the parents are whip smart! Long ago, one term at a community college, I designed and taught a Deaf Studies course. One important book I used was "Raising and Educating a Deaf Child" by Marc Marschark. He addresses many important issues and principles that apply to all children. An excellent read.
