May I ask why u find them odd?
Most German tram-systems use tow-part cars and copple them if the capacity is needed and big ones for high deamand routes.
      E.g., here in Leipzig we have old T4Dm in a T+T+B/T+B formation, two-parter (Leoliner/NGTW6) single or as a two car train, three-parter (NGT8), four-parter (NGT10-XL) and five-parter (NGT12) Trams. ^^

These look like the old San Francisco MUNI Bombardiers from the early 1980s, no doubt a modern iteration

@@BR618 They simply look a bit out of proportion, especially because of the different lengths of the sections. Their 3-section counterparts, which are seen in other cities (e.g. Kraków) look much better in my opinion😅

      I see what u mean. ^^
May I recommend to view the "asymmetry" more as a "golden cut/ratio" situation, 'cause the second part is about 1:1,6 the length of the first part. 😊
Technically it's due to the 6 axel nature of the trams, as u can see at 2:08 (2+2 in the front and 2 at the second car), to reduce the weight, boarding height and the curve radius. The LeoLiner (in Leipzig and more Halberstadt) has a switch axel order, and looks weird as f, but for diff. reasons. ^^
