Hello Jeff. We have a guy that repairs diesel pumps of any sort. He is magic. We don't know how he does it. There's only him and his son and he's magga busy.
Harbor Freight has a nice ultrasonic cleaner with a built in heater that might be good for cleaning stuff like that. I'm planning on buying one to try it out. Back in the day when GM came out with the 5.7 olds diesel they had Roosa Master pumps and those flexible drive rings were always the first thing to fail. Usually around 25,000 miles, that and all the other issues they had left a lot of people with ill feelings over owning a diesel powered vehicle. My dad and I changed a lot of injection pumps at our shop back in the 80's. I still have his '79 Tornado diesel which I drive every summer.
I’d have thrown it against the floor and opened my wallet for a replacement lol you are better then me buddy hope you get it back together and can get those parts fairly quickly and cheap thanks for sharing have a great thanksgiving
Another very interesting video, Jeff.. I like seeing inside of gadgets to see what makes them tick. Brian Block is quite an interesting man... an incredible source of knowledge on all things mechanical. Have been watching him for many years... since the "barn shop" days. The array of Monster lathes and milling machines he has is impressive. Looking forward to seeing you put it all back together. Wishing you and Mrs. Paydirt all the best.... Russ
Hytrack final drive hubs dont have a problem with loose segments, the problem they have is people who do not have a clue how to salvage the hub segment flange coectly, when new or reclamed corectly the segment bolts will never be loaded in shear. If the segment flange bolt holes are worn that is a symptom of another fault. The bolt hole sleeves you reference are for the original D10 84W hub which is the only hub that has a tight fit between the bolt shank and the segment flange hole. Weding any hytrack final drive hub is also a no go, if the flange is cracked or to thin it is scrap.👍
I've used a BBQ grill for a bearing oven occasionally...... works great. The old school berrymans does a great job, the new stuff is pretty much garbage. You'd have never gotten out of a pump shop for $1400, you saved yourself some nickels.
Jeff, It looks like there has been some water find its way into that pump. That is why the plungers were stuck. There may have been a comment about this already. Pumps don’t like water, the tolerances are so close that a very small amount of moisture causes them to jam up. Just touching the plungers before they go in will be enough to do it. A very good TAFE (Technical And Further Education) teacher taught us that but I have never had one apart, you are fearless when it comes to stuff like this. Jeff
G'day Jeff, Allen Millyard a British motorcycle genius uses the BBQ with great success, to release all his tolerance and glue fittings. 24 hr epoxy is great for holding fittings ,but it's also possible to use varnish to glue surfaces, just as they do to hold ships propellers on. Just check that adhesive compounds aren't devolved by solvents before using in hydrocarbon situation s/applications. Respect...!
@Jpaydirt Hi Jeff. JB WELD. Is a great product,I've used it in many repairs including hydrocarbon/fuel repairs . Mainly used it for its overall strength. As for heat ,I've found a few other products that are recommended for higher temps than JB WELD ,particularly for use in manifolds, blocks and head repairs . For the fuel pump situation ,JB will offer an almost permanent repair . Jeff wins again ..! Respect
Hey Jeff. Think should of just sent it to them they have a machine to test run it and set it for proper delivery!!! Be clocked timed etc! They paint and everything. Just bolt on and go !
Be sure and blow out the return line to the tank as those tiny broken pieces will restrict or stop the return flow of fuel to the tank. The return line comes out of the cover on the top of pump housing. There should be a spring loaded glass check ball in the fitting that screws into the top housing, make sure it is installed and no debris is blocking it.
Might want to give that nice looking Weber a good 500* cook off with nothing in it so you don’t get residual contamination of some sort. I want to see you making more videos for along time to come.😜
Amazing to see the guts a device that makes a system function. Don't you have to pull it out while it's hot or would that be rude. They used space age glue. Your calendar is a modern socially adjusted date stamp, looks hilarious. I miss the good old calendars us real men owned. Keep warm and dry Jeff.
Those governor drive bands were made from polyurethane, the update is a welded steel cage, if the drive band breaks, the engine will not run faster than an idle.
Man sorry to see that issue Jeff, maybe cut that thing in half with a band saw or chop saw to take a look see better so you can feel a little more better on that money drop. After all your work I’d rig a water separator on that great job after you get her running
Looks like a race pump now . They say you learn the best when your paying ... but I'm not so sure (I'm in for tens of thousands) . Happy holidays Anderson construction!
I made up my mind years ago it just wasn’t worth it to mess with injection pumps. I just take them off, and either get it rebuilt or swap it for a reman. If it’s an engine that has sat for many years or had water in the fuel, I do the same with the injectors.
Since it’s already broken I’d be curious to see what the delivery valve really looks like. I’ve rebuilt a few of these, the first one is a bit scary but they’re really not bad to do. Hopefully whoever you’re dealing with can provide your roller dimensions for setting your fuel rate since you have to change the head.
I can't get it out I've tried everything, and I even ruined it so it doesn't matter anymore, my book tells me the roller to roller dimension and since it's in a crane I'm not worried about overfueling it
I didn't know you had the problem till too late but . . . If you could pump grease into that with a grease gun it'd come out. If you couldn't plumb it you could have sent it to me, I'd have machined an adapter. I owe you one anyway.
My ultrasonic cleaner.... DIY pot your wife doesn't use or don't tell her.😅 Pow-R-Clean + Dawn Dish soap in the pot on my wood stove heat it up. Or what ever cleaner you want to use.
We're you successful in getting it running again? Reason I ask is because I just finished rebuilding mine and now I fired up the tractor and it has a extremely high idle. Only way I was able to shut her down was by yanking the fuel delivery line. I'm wondering what could be the cause? If you can help I'd really appreciate it. Thank you
I looked at the videos didn't see any other crane videos.I'm betting that is IH d282 . If so you are a CAT guy and are going to be very frustrated with it. Couple tips if you don't know. Glow Plugs,Glow Plugs,Glow Plugs they have to work or it won't start. Crank the engine holding the Glow plug button and keep holding it till the engine runs smooth and the injectors clean up. Those Injectors have a very low cracking pressure and don't atomize very well.Keep the starting fluid in the truck and away from it. I know it's tempting but dont. Most D282 died decades ago from the juice. Hope it helps someone you probably already know this.
Can't rebuild one if the delivery valve is stuck in the rotor, still going to have to replace the rotor and head, you can't just buy any 200 dollar pump and slap it on
It's so nice to have a little dog.

Thanks for the roosa tutorial Jeff.
Wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone at Anderson Construction.
You are a great wrench
Roosa started here in ct .. good job jeff
Another Great Video, Jeff. I have a forklift that needs the pump rebuilt as well. Hopefully you and your family had a Happy Thanksgiving.
Great video Jeff thanks for sharing your Roosa Master pump teardown and cleaning. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Jeff.

Good video Jeff
10+ years ago I bought a toaster oven for those situations where you've gotta heat something that the Mrs. doesn't want in the household oven.

it seems I'm always seeing high drives with issues, when you put all the torque on a few bolts your bound to have some issues

Fearless and without any sense LOL
I got nothing to help you on this one, Jeff, but I did enjoy the video.
Happy Thanksgiving.
A bottle of the good stuff may have made me feel better and possibly loosened the valve LOL

I've seen Frank tear a fuel pump down once. He was able to make it work. So if you need help I'm sure he can give you a hand!! Lol

Tech school instructor said is very fine wire in water drain hole, water grabs on, drains off water. Water drop will not go through the whole.
I thought I was the only one who spent money like that on repairs. 🙄
Stuff happens.
Nice calendar. 😁

did it runaway or just high idle? runaway would be something in the governor, and high idle would be something under the top cover binding
Cheaper to send to the pros, and do a video deal.
there is a tool to get the deliver valve out. it’s very very common
can't imagine what it is, 200 psi wouldn't spit it out
