A walk cycle being 17 frames is what meant those first games had better gameplay because everything was deterministic. Sure it might have made it harder to develop but still better gameplay IMO. In N&T and SS being between 0 and 0.5 away from the edge is extremely annoying when you want to be exactly on the edge, more so when abe starts doing the "I'm gonna fall" animation loop.
Lorne is unable to see what makes the games magic. He sees how limited they were in scope and gameplay and realises that's not why people like them so much. The reason why they persevered through the trial and error bullshit at times was the lore, the mysticism, the spirituality of the games that connected so deeply with many. Nothing past Exoddus has quite been able to capture that.
"Wanted more epic" then do movie or animations, or keep the magic lore from ghost from AE don't be realistic as fuck with inventory system and moolah x)
Exodus lore was just magic. The art in the background just gave it that real oddworld vibe

Realism doesn't belong in Oddworld I hope they try to keep it simple from now on.
