- In January 2003, I went to Hawaii for the first time with some of the best french bodyboarders of the moment including Nicolas Capdeville, Cedric Dufaure and Julien Lacouture.
This is an excerpt from a movie called “Rock the life” including my first season ever from Hawaii.
I was 13 years old in this video, I remember being so overwhelmed by the professional bodyboarders that I honnestly felt I would never be able to reach their level. I kind of hated my first season, I didn’t catch many waves and I felt like I disappointed the guys with me.
I ended up never missing a season after that as I knew Hawaii would shape me as the best rider I can be, I spent months on the North Shore so I could expose myself to big and powerful waves in the middle of all the best surfers and bodyboarders in the world.
I know today that Hawaii played a huge part in my career but as you can see in this video, we all start somewhere.
Even then u had some solid rides man. U werent kooking it as much as u made it out to be in your write up. I dont think u disappointed your french crew. I think they were stoked on u

ça me rappelle tes premières parutions dans les B.A.F. ou les BODYRIDER, tout le monde avait déjà capté le très gros potentiel d'un futur world champ. Personne ne s'est trompé ;)
2:42, I hope you didn't show this clip to your mom lol. Or I guess now it wouldn't matter. But if I showed that to my mom after traveling with a bunch of older guys she'd never let me go again. My first time riding pipe I was like 15 and only got 1 barrel. I still remember Mike paddling up to me and being like "today kinda sucks huh" but it was the cleanest day since I've been there and didn't play it off as a local. Ended up telling him I'm from socal and then never talked to him again lol
