This tutorial will guide you through the new method to setup your Raspberry Pi Zero WH from start to finish. We will show you how to format the SD card, flash the Raspbian operating system to that SD card. We will setup WIFI and SSH so that we can immediately connect to our device over our local network using SSH and VNC remote desktop. Finally we will stand up a basic website using NGINX.

the new imager (late may 2023) makes this a lot more simple. now you can enable ssh and set the wifi informations with the imager itself. it's pure gold! :) Also you do not need any subsystem for win10 and 11. They come with everything you need. They both come with an openSSH client that will just work from the cmd/terminal. it will look and work exactly as described in this video. :)
Yes sir! It’s so sweet!
where can i enable it?
This isn't and hasn't worked for me. I still can't SSH into the raspberry pi zero w despite having "enabled" SSH with the imager and even set up the wifi. I can arp-scan --localnet and find the IP address of the Raspberry Pi but it keeps saying "Connection Refused" when I try to SSH into it.
The files you've listed in your description are no longer available.
Not only are the files gone but he doesn't make the distinction that this is a modern Pi Zero, not the original which itself doesn't have a wireless chip and thus can't connect to wifi without a USB adapter.
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

That was incredibly helpful for a first raspberry pi and a decade since playing with linux. Much thanks!
To those coming to this video after 5/23/2022. In the raspberry pi imager there is a gear in the bottom right corner. Where you now configure the SSH, and all other options. To get remote connected. VNC is the same though.
Yes. They're not allowed to use the pi/raspberry login anymore because of some legal restrictions.
@@jonathanr4242 can you tell me more about it?
So we can't ssh to the raspberry pi zero anymore?
@@logm1lo Andreas Spiess (the guy with the Swiss accent) has a video on it. ua-cam.com/video/VpO6f1oLSa4/v-deo.html

Anyways bro thank you finally I'm amble to connect with vnc I was struggling for 5 days thank you so much and ur life saver I got 2 days left for doing my final project
Just FYI Windows cmd command shell has ping etc. It also has an integrated ssh terminal. Just type ssh and the hostname.
Good job. Clear, short and concise.
Glad it was helpful!
I appreciate the content. Lots of similar articles for Raspberry Pi Zero ssh but your video specifically mentioned the power slot and not the middle connection slot. Made all the difference in the world.
Just what I needed, thank you for the great video!
That was way too cool :)
Awesome fun
Glad you enjoyed it
thanks, this video was very useful 👍👍
Great video!!
thank you for this great video!
I just got a Pi zero 2 w and I keep getting a missing driver in Windows 11, when I plug it in (BCM2710 Boot). I've tried everything and I can't find the driver for it. Is this normal for it to do this?
I have an open Wi-Fi.. so what do I need to write in the Wi-Fi password field? shall I leave it empty?
the files are no longer available to download
yes were can i get it now
I can only open these files that you have provided if my operating system is linux?
Great video! Got me up and running with it very quickly! However I'm having a few issues. I'm able to connect it to wifi and ssh in, but I only have the "Bookshelf" directory. Additionally, when I run the "api-get update" with sudo permission I originally received an error regarding "You do not have enough storage space" (I'm using a 64GB SD card). Now however, when I run "api-get update" and/or attempt to "mkdir test" I receive errors regarding "Read-only file system". Do you have any insight into how to troubleshoot this?
Hmm, I've never seen that issue I'm not sure what is causing that, maybe try again?
said something about changing the sd if it was 34 gb to fat thirty four , maybe you can convert it to fat sixty four, this is a guess though
@@New2it_1818use max 32gb
Did you get this to work? I have the same problem.
is the for the older os or new one that just came out
Perfect tutorial!
Glad you think so!
Now THAT was helpful!
Excellent!
great tutorial, thanks sir👍😁
Glad you liked it!
This video walkthrough is pretty detailed and it helped me setup pi quickly, thanks a lot @DataSlayerMedia and please continue creating such great content!
i successfully installed OS, but in screen i got only bluetooth and speaker symbols, background was also not like u shown. can you please give me the inputs
How do I connect my raspi to a public wifi? Where it has that thing that brings you to a website to accept the terms and conditions first before actually being able to connect.
google connection with ssh and wifi file is not working. please help me
Can re-upload the links with ssh please because they dont work
Nao estou conseguindo encontrar meu raspberry pi na rede de wifi. O que devo fazer?
I have a question. I connect the rapberry pi to my computer and its working and i test the power on bluetooth and it not responding. I format the sd card and folow this tutorial again step by step and its not working. How I can do to working it? - B.T.W sorry for my english
Where do you get stuck?
thank you for the great video. My question is that I can not use the host name. Even after changing the host name I still can not use it to ssh.. the only allowed way to ssh is by using the ip address. I an using the terminal on macos monterey and chip raspberrypi zero2w. how can i use the host name instead of the ip address?
Ensure both devices are on the same network. Try raspberrypi.local if not use your router to ascertain the ip address of the rpi and use that.
This is overwhelming ❤️❤️ thank you keep up the good work
Thank you! Will do!
ssh pi@raspberrypi im at this step but it always says "could not resolve hostname ... the supplied host is unknown" and idk what to do
Thanks. This has been a big help.
do you have ssh file link
7:10 How can I add another a second WIFI address if the first one fails?
I can't access the SSH file in the link. I think there is a billing problem?
if you have ssh file link then send here
VNC Viewer keeps timing out when I attempt to connect through the ip adress I got through the dig command. What should I do or try next?
try using ping to retrieve the ip address and use that
Both files needed for wifi and ssh are invalid.
What if you cannot use RPI imager because you neither use Windows nor Mac nor Ubuntu/Linux nor a graphical console? So all you have is a full GNU toolchain including vim and possibly Python3 and JavaScript (but with non-Intel byte order) and a TTY. For me rpi-imager is a PITA because it uses a graphical environment. Is there a text only mode for rpi-imager where you can edit all the parameters (I did not find any)? There are people out there who have big problems with graphical environments ..
how do you even end up in such a position? How did you write and watch this without using a UI?
Wow soooo helpful thank you. I really should have watched this before order all the random cables and connectors 🤣
i am unable to access the two ssh files. keep getting " This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." can you fix this ?
if you got the ssh file then send here
i can't acces the link with the files. Can u send it to me, pls ?
What happens if your wifi network is using WPA2, do you just use "key_mgmt=WPA2-PSK" ???
It should still work.
The links dont work anymore
good job man!
Thank you! Cheers!
how to make it to host a web interface and let user to update wifi ssid and password. Like when wifi creditional changes or old wifi not available it should change its mode to hotspot user connect to it and using website add wifi
Thank you sir
Hello , That was a very helpful video to setup the Raspberry zero
But I have a issue with My Raspberry Pi zero W , I have installed Recommended Os using Rpi imager , I have clearly followed you video without skipping all was good and working but My rpi camera isn't, When I enter "sudo raspi-config" in configuration section Inside Interface section is there no entry know as "Camera Legacy" so I can enable in order to use it. my Rpi camera , When I entered "libcamera-hello" command the window preview is not opening Can you please help me out or make a video.
Hello, do I still need to setup the wifi connection if i connect my raspberry to an ethernet connection ?
no
Very Clear Video...cool
Glad it was helpful!
If youre on windows you can use cmd,i think you may have to enable ssh on your system but it works jsut fine
Latest RPi Imager allows you to add in the SSH and Wi-Fi details before the write process now, pretty neat.
FYI Your links for the "ssh" and "wpa_supplicant" dose not work.
the files in the description dont work
Thanks!
You bet!
Any chance of a 3d printable case design?
I can't ping or ssh it ;--; it says name not found
hello 👋 im new to raspberry pi , i have lcd screen , made everything great , enabled ssh , changed name , password everything looking great but 1 thing is bad , i cant connect pi to laptop with filezilla or winscp those cant find the ip adress or host name , i tried everything but still cant connect can u help me pls?🙏
Filezilla assumes the destination device has a server supporting SMTP traffic. You will need to enable one on the Raspberry Pi then it should connect.
The tutorial is a legend, thanks a lot :)
thank you !
You're welcome!
I dont know how to start the ssh on win 10 can somebody help me pls?
Very good video and easy to follow but I got lost on VNC portion. When I open VNC viewer, it asks for user name and password.
Which one I enter? The one I set for my raspberry pi in config window or something else. I see you use pi as user name.
Same credentials as for SSH
Just a note - if on a windows machine you can check if the pi is connected to your network without installing any additional software - just type CMD in search panel and select run as admin and then type the same command. Works very well
whats the cmmand

Great tutorial. Only problem is that the ssh file and the supplicant file cannot be reached (links are no longer valid).
Yes! I'm getting the same error
Its working for me noww, and you dont need them anyways since theres a little gear icon in the bottom right corner of the imager which lets you do all those things
Is that usb a normal usb C or some special micro usb?
My MacBook recognizes my as card but it doesn’t come up in storage on the imager
Try looking into sd card formatting types, you may need to format the card.
everything worked for me, except for the VNC part. I have Windwos. they help me?
On windows use Remote Desktop
User pi an password raspberry not working for me :(

hello you can read this article, hope it helps: An update to Raspberry Pi OS Bullseye 7th Apr 2022. Go to the heading: Headless setup
Bravo, bel tutorial! My respect for 'vim', instead I would have preferred x2go server rather than VNC but I understand it's done to make easier life to Windows users!
heads up: windows has had ssh and openssh server natively available for quite a while now. I believe ssh just works, and if you want the server, just enable it in windows features, then start the service.
good video bro
who is Vader and Rey on your computer 😆thanks for the tutor ^_^
Is there any way to easily do this if my wifi is only 5ghz band? Or is it absolutely necessary that it is 2.4ghz?
for pi zero W: onboard Wireless LAN - 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n (BCM43438)
that means you need 2.4g band. Maybe you can config your router to use both bands, idk
links not working for me :((((((
Can you build OpenWRT on this hardware?
Not sure on that.
the default password doesn't work for me. i keep typing in raspberry but it keeps saying it's wrong.
edit: after a recent update, there is no default password! in the options inside of the installed program, you have to set it yourself.
How'd you do this? Running into the same problem! Any help is appreciated!

That's expected it's an empty file.
thanks for the help...
No worries!
@@DataSlayerMedia question; i am unable to ping or ssh using the host name but only with the ip address, any idea as to why this would happen?
Lastly any plans to dive deeper into Nginx in regard to the Raspi Zero? This would be a great overall complete series.

Now what should I do?
