He did not want to treat Rory as he had treated all the others, as proof we have that the family was completely shocked when they found out that he had a girlfriend as such, I suppose that when that happened it would be because he was on his way to something serious, they knew it was not a hobby as with the previous girls.

This is the kind of stuff that kinda makes you hate Lorelei. Right when she really needs to be the cool mom, she completely fails. She of all people should understand.
