hi im a mapper and i think this is important and has to be said (tl;dr at end). everyone has their opinion on what they think the ranked section should be for, but nobody is talking about what its actually for in the context of osu as an official rhythm game. ranked is not for the community in any capacity, not for players, not for mappers, not for bns or the nat, its for the front face of osu, professionally made maps are the priority, as much of a joke that sounds. if it was the nat and mappers that control everything, we wouldnt have a ranked criteria and we would just rank anything we think is cool from a mapping perspective too, just like what players would do. im not opposed to changing the ranked section to be for the players or whoever actually, because im honestly indifferent on this situation, changing ranked to be for players would make the community happier for a short period of time and i honestly dont care what does or doesent get ranked if its not my own maps. im not like the masses of delusional players that hate on maps that they dont have to play, or are a niche skillsets that they cant play and complain that the map "sucks to play" when you dont have to play it, and i dont send death threats to the mappers or nat because i dont think they should be making maps or vetoing maps, truthfully they are all just doing their job for what ranked currently is, nat will not rank low effort maps, regardless of how farm it is or isnt, they dont care about the pp. if they did somebody would have veto'd zanei last year but nobody did. only the map quality matters when ranking. the "experimental map" thing is a complete myth, nothing to do with pp. but no matter what you do, players will always complain, in 2019 they complained that theres too much low quality farm, too much low effort sotarks maps, and now in 2024 they complain that its the opposite. players will just complain and complain and i dont know why. sotarks is incredibly toxic on twitter, acting like a saint thats saving the community, but hes just farming clout unfortunately. he will call out the nat as a circle jerk, with his own circle jerk of farm mappers, reform, armin, browiec, ect, which is plain hypocritical, nobody ever said that farm maps had to be so low effort, there are plenty of high effort farm maps, people just dont make them because its time consuming. mappers like sotarks are notoriously lazy, peak sotarks mapping is actually quite a bit better than the average ranked map, he just doesent want to. i just wish sotarks and browiec massive influence on the community wasnt so toxic, its basically just a coping mechanism for them to complain on twitter that they cant rank garbage like its 2019 anymore, but it has such a strong impact on players that dont have an understanding of mapping quality and mostly just see "dirty and clean" and "comfortable and uncomfortable" as "good and bad" because thats all they can see, and thats completely reasonable, i dont blame them, because they dont map, but not being able to accept that you dont understand anything about mapping, and then egged on by influental mappers on twitter, has created a very toxic and stubborn player base for sure tl;dr this entire drama is a massive continuous "non-issue" that will never end because toxic players will always complain no matter what you give them. and will use what they perceive as experienced mappers opinions as their own to spread hate through the mapping community, as they are not experienced enough to have their own valid opinion i say give the players what the fuck they want, change ranked back to 2019 for all i care, just stop being toxic, stop sending death threats, maybe even try learning mapping yourself so you can see what it really takes to become actually good at it. and maybe you will be a little more humble thanks for reading lmfao
