John, I do not think you are addressing the main problem here. We are moving a way from a "it is mine" model to a "rent it" for a year model, where exam fee is not included and the UI is also awful. I would be ok if we are not able to download and keep the material anymore (like how it is right now) as long as the new experience is good. But now the only way for me to read the slides is to maximize the whole thing! Also.... before... we were able to quickly identify and download X type of course for a given exam. Now you go there and see a plethora of "learning paths" where you don't know what is what or what you need to study in order to pass eCCPT, for example. And I am not personally happy with that, because eLearning site IS NO LONGER available when buying new courses. Old stuff or things you purchased already? Yes. But for new content, I am being forced to use the awful INE's site.
I left another comment with more details, but just a quick note. We're moving to a subscription model so we can keep expanding and updating our catalog. And do it more frequently. With one time purchases, it is true you own the content, but with the rate of change of technology, it's harder and harder to keep it updated.
@@SantiagoBasulto Again, lame excuse for greedy decision. And who says you cannot update already bought courses? You really wanna tell us it is technically impossible? Even bloody Udemy can do it! I have eJTP and I'm finishing eWAPT cert. I work, I have 2 kids and I just have about 1h a day to attend to a course. Previous 6 month access was perfect for me: I managed to complete within those 6 months. In current model, I would have to spend $2000 to be able to complete 2 or 3 courses WITHOUT certifications included. That's why the new model won't fit for me. Regards.
I was gonna comment something in regards to this. John is doing the math like a car salesman. The average person pursues maybe 1-3 certs a year. 2000$ is outrageous! Unless you’re single with zero responsibilities, you’re not gonna be taking that many certs a year. Also $2000 is not cheap by any means.
So in 12 months having 5000 different paths for 2k is great if you’re a full time student or are independently wealthy and don’t have to worry about a full time job. But let’s be serious. If you want to do the math let’s do it for someone who is going to take 2-3 certifications a year.
Just got an email, and INE now made PTS completely free with unlimited lab time. That means it's significantly cheaper to get the eJPT certification - free training and $200 for the test. This is fantastic! From the email they sent out this morning: "INE understands the importance of cyber security training and is proud to offer a free solution to those looking to break into the InfoSec industry, the new Starter Pass. Just to clarify, the INE starter pass does not include lab access for the PTS course :[ it does have everything else though; videos, slides, guides. The description of it is misleading on the INE site... it says there are labs, but when you open the course you have to upgrade your plan to actually access it.

Hi John, great video. What you said resonates with me. I have to say INE has been a great platform. I’ve used it before the Cyber Security addition. Now it got even better. Keep up the good content. Ways to learn new skills are always helpful. Good that you share it.
$2000 is just a lot for me out of pocket along with another $400. I get it it's a good value if you want access to everything. What if I just want one course beyond eJPT? I can't get work to pay that much and I certainly can't pay that much at once. I think that leaves a lot of us in a catch 22.
One thing I dont understand is that these certs aren't breaking down door of HR robots as a widely accepted certification yet, so it begs to question do you spend 2k for courses and certs that seems fantastic as a prep of something that HR places do recognize like OSCP. I understand they need to pay their bills and run a business but accessibility was the main attraction in my path to include e-learn security.
Yes of course. Taken individually it does seem a bit expensive. But considering the oscp will run you 1399 if you take the 90 labs voucher I think it put things into perspective
Hello guys, I'm head of Product at INE (I'm also the instructor for the Python courses) and I just wanted to say I had a great time watching John's video and reading ALL the comments you left. I've replied to some. Just wanted to say that we are listening and improving the product. I know that many people don't like the subscription model, but I want to point out something in particular. Aside from total cost, as John mentioned in the video ($2k/year for ALL the curriculum), you're also getting ALL the updates to the courses. So it's not that you've bought a course for $1.5K and after 18 months it's outdated. Our catalog keeps being updated and expanded, and all that new content is part of your subscription. Also, as John mentioned, the associated passes (Dev and IT Essentials) are fundamental. All our Python/R/C++ courses are landing on the Dev pass, which IS INCLUDED in the Cyber Sec pass for free.
Hi Santiago, although you get up-to-date materials and get access to the Dev pass, it doesn't work for everyone. So each year I have to fork out USD2000 (im not based in the US which means i need to spend more money). That means, I have to commit to study as much as i can to be worth it but how much time can you invest into your studies when you work full time and have other commitments? This is where it doesn't work for everybody. On top of that, an exam costs USD400. I think that's a rip off. Plus, now you can't download any materials and usually people always go back to the materials but after your membership terminates, how can you refer back to the materials?
@Santiago - The updates are basically useless once the subsciption expires - so with or without updates, we cannot access the material after 12 months unless we pay $1999 for the subscription again. So, sorry, but this argument you presented is just not enough for me to justify paying $1999 for 12 months access with no exams vouchers included and no downloading options. For Gods sake, Offensive Security gives you all the materials for their OSCP to download, voucher included and 3 months of Labs access for significantly less money ($1349) then your one year subscription and if you need to retake the OSCP exam - it is just $150. So, come on, make the eLearnSecurity great again instead of "ponting out" things like updates, you can do much better.
@Gargoyles Cave totally agree with you, the thinks also for my personal vision doesn't work for entry levels studetns as you mention oscp give you all the packets once and extremely accurate, so now let's make some stop and focus on, a students or personal walker want to start a journey in basic pen testing or at list understand through basics certification can pay that much for just no recognize cert and alot thinks in the labs to menage? What is the points for encouraging students or people in general to start with this insane amount of money, for me this is just another way to grab attention on honest people want just start a career, let's be honest that would be the main reason for don't push the button and sign, sorry for that but e learn formula right now absolutely don't make any sense for me and the unlimited access to all the course is just a poor excuse for grind money on people.
It's a double edged sword I feel. On one hand, it's great that you get access to the entire course catalog....but on the other hand, I hate subscription services - especially for training, because I have a life / family / commitments. One of the attractive things about the eLearn courses were, that you paid for them, and they were yours. Not the case now - get it done within the year or pay another $2k. The offer for existing customers (I bought eJPT/PTS & eCPPT/PTP Elite) to switch to a 1yr subscription on INE for $99 (AND lose permanent access to the eLearn content you bought) is a bit of a joke too.
Thanks, John! I think this is the first balanced piece I've seen on the subject. And you aren't trying to blow smoke. You have solid points that we should all be thinking about.
It is a good value IF it wasn't only for a year!!!! No one can possibly get thru all anywhere near the amount of trainings needed to make it worth the price.....aaaannnddd you still need to purchase vouchers!!!!
Try paying for a SANS course for one topic at ~$7000 USD. Given the material is top tier it's still quite expensive compared to INE. If you're dedicated enough you will get the most out of this subscription. I understand that a career in IT security isn't cheap but to do well you have to always be learning and this comes at a cost
But SANS is very recognized in the community and it's HR friendly too. It's not a fair comparison, GPEN to OSCP would be a better comparison. SANS is best when someone else is paying for it.
Cost of the exam has always been 400$. You can purchase the voucher only and take the exam, no need for labs or courses. eJPT, ecppt, eWPT, eMAPT and some others are perfectly doable without the courses and labs to someone with kindergarten Google search skills. The benefit of this subscription it's really for advance courses and not Jr level certs like the ones I mentioned.
I must admit I was upset at first about the change at first, it was before they announced the free starter pass. If this change garners more change In the HR environment here in the US. I’ll be stoked. Anyways, have a good one John.
I agree that the INE pass is insane value for money *if you want all of the courses,* however I think the majority of people aren't after *all* of the courses, especially in a 1 year timeframe. If you only want one or two of the courses, you're now having to pay a significant amount more than you were originally and you have to purchase the exam voucher on top of the materials. That and you only keep access to the content for the year (and for people like me who frequently try to find that one thing from that course I did) are why this move is rubbing people the wrong way, but that's just my opinion.
While I arrive to the, you better do more than 1 course at a time point myself, How do you plan to take 14+ courses in a year? Yeah the 2k number in reality isn't that bad, but 14 for 2k is unrealistic.
Question 🙋♂️: I am about to do eJPT exam and training. Shall I go via INE ( they offer a free video course , and is this enough ? ) or PTS ( the website shows the amount of $400 on the elite ) but is this still valid or legacy ? I really would love to get an opinion of a good study path and any additional assistance on learning)
Myself I don’t wanna buy like every single course I would like to just say by the course that I need when I need it now I know this video is really old so I’m gonna have to check I and these website to see if things have changed but also I can probably afford it. I don’t want to spend $2000 ‘ cause I don’t want every course in the universe.
But the question is how many certifications can u take within a year....if u are going for ecppt, ewptx, ecpptx....each of these certificates will take significant amount of time...i don't want to be busy whole year in doing these certificates just because i have paid for an yearly pass.... Secondly, the biggest difference between Offsec and elearn was that offsec wants you to be well prepared before you take there courses, whereas elearn ask you to take there course and help u study at your pace and then take exam...now if i am under pressure to complete as many courses as i can, i would rather like to go through free courses as much as possible before paying and the aim to finish labs and give exam...similar to offensive security(offsec)..... Am happy they excluded ejpt from this pass since it is Penetration testing for STUDENTS....
Offensive Security is much better option for significantly less money. Also, they are recognised by HRs across the world as a golden standard, while you cannot say that about eLearnSecurity.
I am weighing this option against my college which is also around 2000 dollars. My college would train me for Security+ and CEH but INE would train me for EJPT which I hear is a better and more hands-on cert compared to the 2 others. So for me, it seems good, but IDK because I'm not sold yet on what I should do.
Another thing that you are not explaining, John. Is not 1800 that we had to pay before for eCCPT, for example. Could be 300 dollars a month. Why? because we had the option to pay in installments. Now you cannot, anymore. You have to have the 2k ready or you won't be able to get access to the new courses. So that's the problem. In terms of math may be the same, but in terms of cash flow, it is not! And most people cannot afford 2k in a single payment.
Hey, John. Quick Question. I've been studying for the ECPPT, and I have the ECPPT Elite, but it'd be nice to have the INE videos for a more structured learning experience. For current students, are they giving access to the INE PTP videos, or is there any kind of promotion for existing students? Under resources it is still the old Elearn videos, and not with the INE instructor FABRIZIO SICILIANO
Stick to the Elite you already bought - there is NO difference betweet INE Cyber Pass videos for ECPPT and your Elite ECPPT. They did not even make effort to update VERY old eJPT. So, just stick to the Elite, even UI is much better there and INE UI sucks.
I don't think it was a good time to make the change. The organization assumes we all have time to take all of their training courses, and that we want multiple certs from them.
Is this worth $2000 it for a guy who has no IT experience, only been studying CyberSec for a few months, No Certs (currently studying for Sec+), and I plan on making CyberSec/Ethical Hacking my new career? And does this provide Certs?
I just enrolled the pts course but I don’t have access to the labs. Are they available yet with the shift from ine that just happened? Also for the labs ( when they become available) do I need to install virtual box or will all the labs be active through the browser once I connect to the open vpn?
@@_JohnHammond still worth it, for me do u think the ejpt and the certificates you are talking about are still worthy? Because I'm enjoying so much what I'm learning, I want to quit my job as a software developer do become cyber security analyst. Do you still recommend this website for the certificates?
For people in countries with weaker currency will struggle to be able to pay it, one thing is save 1 month gross salary to pay for 1 course+certification in a year maybe (and is a really good salary in some countries), another to have 2 months of gross salary only for the courses, in a way they are turning their back to some people.
That is my point. I do not believe we have installments option anymore. So if you do not have the 2k ready to use, you cannot longer get a course. 1600 dollars per course could be split into payments and two exams were also included.
Yeah, the content might be good but the price model is terrible and I'm burned out on all things subscription based. Yeah you might have access to lots of material but how much can you learn in that time? Same principle as trying to sell you more food than you need or a larger drink for more money. Sounds like a good value but in reality it's a terrible idea. In the long run you will learn less and pay more. Best regards.

I am now curious as to whether or not I can get through ALL the content within the next 2 years. Time will tell...
While, I agree, its not fair. How do they enforce it? If I sign up with a VPN do I get India pricing? Do I need to provide my address? How do they check that?
Nothing will ever be affordable for Indians. Just pirate everything and read. All eLearn, Offsec & SANS 2020 courses are already available for free on the internet. Pay only for the labs from the 3rd party vuln labs etc. Offsec is a jerk who want you to pay for everything even if you want to do just the cert. Rest are all can be studied with pirated materials. Don't feel guilty, Big corporates are their customers so they dont care about Indian student or regional pricing.
Yes I know, everything is available, but you can learn a lot with legally free materials... you can spend years in training without spending a single cent.
Am a student doing a diploma in cybersecurity and just recently paid for and passed security+ . Was looking to do the ejpt as my next course but because of the change I cant afford that. Out of touch John. I feel like unsubscribing! And il look towards other certs. Get stuffed learn!
Oh yeah your maths makes it look so reasonable!! oh wait ! no it doesn't because you can pick and choose how long you have access to others. If they want to do this model they should allow monthly access like they do others. We aren't all rich like you probably are. You wanna pay for my year course??? Il pay you back once I have a job.... oh wait you probs don't like that model
John, I like you, but this time your math doesn't have sense. Rent and buy. Is it not the same. If I have a one year free to study it is excellent! If someone like me learns in spare time, (work, family, kid...) Is not great. I know I need to pay 2000 dollars, but I don't know if I will have time to study.
Who cares about updates if you only have the time to review a section one time because in a year all your shit has expired
Let's do this.
It is a good value IF it wasn't only for a year!!!! No one can possibly get thru all anywhere near the amount of trainings needed to make it worth the price.....aaaannnddd you still need to purchase vouchers!!!!
Great, thanx a lot for a tip. I'm there now :)
11:00 you are forgetting the cost of exams: on average $400 dollars per exam.
@@thepankechannel No, a voucher was included in the original courses.
The retakes costed extra.
@Ed - Exactly, spot on. eLearnSecurity did a horrible job with this Cyber Sec Pass crap.
Ine again changed their price plan..any comment?
I must admit I was upset at first about the change at first, it was before they announced the free starter pass. If this change garners more change In the HR environment here in the US. I’ll be stoked. Anyways, have a good one John.
Can't wait
Great 😃
I am weighing this option against my college which is also around 2000 dollars.
If you message support they will offer monthly access for $200.
@@cybersecchannel8397 good to know! Thank you for replying!
Also for the labs ( when they become available) do I need to install virtual box or will all the labs be active through the browser once I connect to the open vpn?
is ine for beginners? im really interested in cyber security but have no coding or programming experience. is this a good start for me?
i found it 49$/month on the main page, so idk nothing about that 2000$
This video is old and outdated.
@@_JohnHammond still worth it, for me do u think the ejpt and the certificates you are talking about are still worthy? Because I'm enjoying so much what I'm learning, I want to quit my job as a software developer do become cyber security analyst. Do you still recommend this website for the certificates?
Considering that elearnsecurity’s courses were a little over $1,000 a pop, paying $2K for 14 courses is a steal!
You could get coupon codes and pay monthly. Hopefully we get good deals with the INE platform
If you message support they will offer monthly access for $200.
I got ccna course from INE 2 years ago, course just was the theory, a waste of time and money I don't know now .
But that is 2000 a year not perpetual. That changes things a lot
I hope they updated the study material.
I disliked the vid because he did the math but not the logic.
Are the certifications worth it? Do employers take them seriously?
the question is does these certs take employers seriously? of course you are paying 2000$
Ine Has changed thire pricerange sence then its now more affordable
Did this change recently? On the INE site now, the annual subscription is 750.
This had changed and this video is out of date, yes. Now the premium annual subscription is $750 and the starter pass is completely free :)
Hey John ...i got starter pass rhe course seems to be free that is all we need to study ? To go for exam?
That's what I heard too from INE.
@@malluk4127 they have lab as well that we have to launch jn order to practice however i would like to know for sure
@@harry00772 bro, they have a chat option man. You could get all your answers in minutes..
ya I think they got u to do this :D
Is this the only way? No books, or lab guide?
Ugh. WHY can't you just buy individual courses :(
with Starter i don't see labs for free,, i see a Get Access Button (Penetration Testing Student) .. isn't that the one you mentioned?
You dont have any lab time in the eJPT training with the starter pack
The lab will come later, see Twitter. Just wait some days.
@@stefanforest7582 ohkay, thanks a lot!
i guess they asked John to try and revert the rage stream a bit, using some incentive youtube HTTPS proxy
No one got paid to make this
It's still expensive. :(
Yeah, the content might be good but the price model is terrible and I'm burned out on all things subscription based. Yeah you might have access to lots of material but how much can you learn in that time? Same principle as trying to sell you more food than you need or a larger drink for more money. Sounds like a good value but in reality it's a terrible idea. In the long run you will learn less and pay more. Best regards.
Hi. Has anyone take the eCTHP course and examination? I have started the course but I am not able to find much information about the examination and report requirements. Thank you.
Have you completed this? What is the difficulty level?
@@weirdo9863 yes I have completed it. This course and exam is excellent for people who want to have a career in blue teaming. Checkout Blue team Online Labs and get a subscription and practice in it before taking the exam. You will definitely pass it
I was one of the people who jumped at the ELS-Cyber deal which was essentially $50 / month for 2 years. Will i be renewing for $2000 per year. Definitely not... I will get what I can out of the course and that will be the end of it. I have browsed through all the content and I can say it really is quite exciting to have so much information at your disposal. I am now curious as to whether or not I can get through ALL the content within the next 2 years. Time will tell...
You are presenting “dark“ stuff ......similar to this say : there is FUN in FUNERAL 🤣🤣👍🏻🤣👍🏻🤣
When will the labs be available?
Still out of reach for most of CyberSec students here in India. I just wish they would launch with country specific pricing
While, I agree, its not fair. How do they enforce it? If I sign up with a VPN do I get India pricing? Do I need to provide my address? How do they check that?
@@BeauGraham try the code els-cyber. It is 1199 for 2 years.
@@stefanforest7582 Yes all SANS offsec Elearn materials are legally free in my country. We spent no cents whatsoever and learn a lot.
This seems like a hallow endorsement. You forgot to tell us what you don’t like.
If you think 2000 is not expensive you are really out of your mind.
Should be free.
how to get pts for free
Am a student doing a diploma in cybersecurity and just recently paid for and passed security+ . Was looking to do the ejpt as my next course but because of the change I cant afford that. NO wonder the industry is struggling for people. WOOOO 150 training videos!! except they are sparatic and probably wont be able to get me an ejpt. Maybe let me pay for what I'm going to do.
Why don't you turn on youtube's sponsorship for your channel?
John, I like you, but this time your math doesn't have sense. Rent and buy. Is it not the same. If I have a one year free to study it is excellent! If someone like me learns in spare time, (work, family, kid...) Is not great. I know I need to pay 2000 dollars, but I don't know if I will have time to study. In the end, they have done the right calculation. They know that the majority of people will pay 2000 $ plus exam for one course at year.
Is it possible to get specific courses?
