Hey Gilbert and to everyone on the LGBTQIA+ side of the debate from Jubilee. I watched the Middle Ground video and straight from the comment section there saw you were doing a wrap up video and I'm glad that there were points cleared up and some more light brought from your guy's perspective. I too am part of the LGBTQ+ (Bi & Genderfluid) and of Christian faith so being able to relate to you guys and see the empathy and compassion extended to the EX's just puts a little more hope in my heart that there's others out there.
I do want to bring up the point regarding that there's a small percentage of people who are Intersex and/or who fall under the umbrella but there is a prime example from my country. I'm from South Africa and there is a famous Olympic gold medalist sports woman Caster Semenya who falls under the Intersex umbrella (I think her condition is DSD- differences in sex development; go do more research on her, her journey is really eye-opening). Because she has a typically higher testosterone level of someone who falls under the male standard, people keep on trying to disprove that the fact that she identifies as a woman and has to continually fight the World's Athletics Association to continue to let her race in women's events or even just be counted in the records.
Seeing people not validate her and Abigail's experiences break my heart since Caster really had the potential to be something great but has to continue to prove her existence to everyone just to be validated as an athlete. So to anyone who's reading this, you were made in the image of God and you are a beautifully woven diverse multi-layered painting of a human being. Your existence alone is validated and no one else can take that away from you :)

Honestly I felt like Rashad’s animosity toward Abigail stemmed from being unable to dispute or invalidate her experience. He couldn’t reject that she literally exists or claim that it was a product of her own/another person’s doing, so that frustration led to the aggressive behavior we see in the video.

In the beginning he said he used to “dress up as a woman”. I think he struggles with his own gender identity and he hates that part of himself, so he had extra smoke for Abigail because she reminded him of the most sensitive aspect of his own identity. It's different tho, just as non-binary isn't trans etc. It made no sense for her to be there. Being a hermaphrodite doesn't change the fact you have XX or XY chromosomes. Trans people transition it's completely different and it confused my own intersex friend why she4 was there in the first place as they don't want to be lumped into a queer category whatsoever.

According to the Bible it is and as such homosexuals are living in opposition to God’s will. 1 Corinthians 6:9 states the consequence for such actions but also note that it’s not just homosexuality but all manner of sin. This is the reason christianity isn't taken seriously and islam is. You'll never see a muslim apologizing for truly believing the doctrine. If something is haram it is haram. If something is a sin, it is a sin. A person doesn't hate the sinner they hate the sin and should call out the sin and make no excuses for it. It is what it is. The judgement is left to God but calling it out is just stating a fact. If the person feels shame for their sin, then it is on them to repent. That shame is the feeling of truth because they know in their hearts what sin is.

Same… I went to both church constantly AND Christian school. As early as 9 I would pray and pray & pray some more to be “normal” or “lord please take this away I don’t want to feel like this” and those prayers weren’t answered because God has always loved and accepted me as I was/am. And today at 25 I am very proud and accepting of myself and my bisexuality… it makes me so so sad to see other queer people self-loathing & terrified of “going to hell” or disappointing god. It’s truly self hatred and I pray they accept themselves one day. Fully.

@@titaniascarletknight our stories seem very similar. I was also terrified of god not loving me/me going to hell if I ever decided I wanted to date a girl or something. Plus having school/church/home life speaking hatefully about homosexuality made it all the worse. The words were so crazy hurtful and I was just a kid who was already so sad about being “different” and couldn’t “pray away the gay”. It’s a miserable existence to deny who you are, and once I decided to accept myself my relationship with god & church thrived. He truly is LOVE. not some dictator as these people are trying to make him seem. Also it’s interesting to me how none of them made the point of no longer being attracted to the same sex, just that they were good at denying their existence and living unhappy lives in the name of god, the Old Testament and Christianity.

@@DesireeJ007I remember the same thing vividly, but for me I was praying for God to take away my attraction/lust for girls. I was abt 13yrs old at a church camp and there was a couple girls wearing yoga pants right in front of me. I kept begging God "PLEASE, when I open my eyes let me be able to look at these girls, not be immediately drawn to their ass, and not feel the desire to have sex w/them" I'd open my eyes, then immediately go back to praying hoping that if I begged hard enough, one of the next times I'd open my eyes, I would no longer be tempted to sin. It didn't work. I'm a guy btw so if I acted and succeeded my sin would be premarital sex, but sin is sin.

The opposite side was truthful and honest. If they are claiming to be Christians they must live as Jesus lived... Jesus was very brutally honest and was definitely loving, but I do apologize for the behavior of most Christians today who are rude unnecessarily as that isnt the example of Christ. But the truth will not sound nice. We are called to love but we must also be honest.
What did you think about Jesus telling the woman caught in the act of adultery? He said, who condemns you? And she said no one lord. And he proceeded to tell her to go and Sin No more.
Jesus was honest and this side was definitely not honest. They are crucifying Jesus on the cross all over again. 😢...if Jesus had to die for our rebellion we owe our lives to Him in totality, and this includes our sexuality.

I wanted to state something that I noticed while watching the video. First of all the I would've expected the ex-LBTQIA'ers to be more mature, why did the whole argument have to be a 1 hour discussion about theology. Like what happend to clear science? Of course it's good to discuss both but would've liked to see more of science based evidence. and by the way Xiala was just not making sense to be honest. At 9:21 she said that there are no biological markers, like DNA that can predict homosexuality. The absence of identified biological markers for a particular trait or characteristic doesn't necessarily mean that the trait doesn't exist or that there might not be biological underpinnings. In the case of homosexuality, the absence of specific, identifiable genetic markers or definitive biological indicators doesn't invalidate its existence.
The statement that there are no identified biological markers for homosexuality implies that, as of current understanding, scientists haven't pinpointed a singular genetic or physiological factor that consistently predicts someone's sexual orientation. However, this doesn't discount the potential existence of biological components influencing sexual orientation. It's entirely plausible that there are biological factors contributing to sexual orientation that haven't been fully comprehended or identified yet.
The complexity of human behavior and biology often means that phenomena like sexual orientation might be influenced by a combination of genetic, hormonal, environmental, and developmental factors that are not fully understood. Scientific research on the topic is ongoing, and while current knowledge might not have provided a definitive biological marker, it doesn't negate the lived experiences of individuals or the validity of sexual orientations that don't conform to the heterosexual norm. The absence of specific markers at a given time doesn't preclude the possibility of their discovery or the acknowledgment of underlying biological aspects that contribute to sexual orientation. Also saying gay people are causing earth quakes is just mental asylum type shit. By the way Abigail I have so much respect for you staying calm, when constantly being invalidated.

I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. It couldn’t have been said better. I find when one looks in the bible to answer all the questions that they seek, then you will get what you say in that debate. These very same people also used the bible to stifle and limit who they are in the world and how they interact in it. When the bible is used only as your one source of reference, then you will get immaturity that you witnessed. This book was written before wagons, cars, the lightbulb, the internet, the telephone, musket, petticoats, and etc. This book cannot answer complex scientific and biological questions. This same book thought blindness came from the sins of the parents passed down. Then cured it with dirt and spit. So, I am not surprised with people like Rashad or Xiala said such inane and nonsensical things, while actually BELIEVING it to be true. To be that sure and self righteous when wrong is a level of arrogance that can lead to doing emotional and mental harm to others. I believe that their ignorance showed. It was loud and clear.

I’m glad you made the decision to follow God and to seek Him. That’s a big step. But I’m sorry, but you cannot live a queer life and be Christian I’m afraid. There are multiple instances in the Word that states that, for instance, 1 Corinthians 6:9. Notice the passage states that certain behaviors will bar us from the kingdom and homosexual is one of them. But there is hope as being washed in the blood of Jesus Christ takes away sin. But notice it says, “as you were” meaning turning from the sin is necessary for salvation. That’s not to say some of the fleshly desires won’t be there to wrestle with. I know I do. But when that happens we need to lean on Christ for strength and seek forgiveness when we fall. I wish for peace and the love of God upon you.

@shawnboahene5231 it sounds to me like the peace and love of God you wish upon this individual was actually already at work, because clearly God was working through His chosen means and in His timing. God is enough for us: to convict us, to lead us into the love and repentance that He leads us to, which may not be what or how you imagine it for someone else. Or frankly for yourself. There is no fear in love. And it is God's loving kindness that leads us to repentance, so let Him deal with each of His own children. He doesn't need our interference or interruption. Pray for your brother/sister if you feel so led. But we should not try to play God when clearly He is already working, in the lives that He knows intimately, in the people He has knit together in the womb that neither you nor I know anything about.

I am the mother to a little girl who recently confessed to me that she has a crush on her best friend and think she's in love with her. I honestly saw that coming and showered my precious baby girl with all the love in the world and of course am on a journey of learning how to help her in a world who my not see her as the wonderful human being she is. To hear and see people say such terrible things to all of you, especially ex-LGBTW people made me so terribly sad. I never want my child to have someone tell her she is possessed by a demon or that her love for someone causes disease and disaster. At least, I know I can find people to surround her with love if she ever needs it from others than her family.

A perfect example of the problem with a series like “Middle Ground.” There is no middle ground when it comes to human rights like this. You’re either for or against it. If you’re against it, you’re directly disrespecting, denying, even down right dehumanizing others. Jubilee doesn’t see that though. They see profit. They see money. They see views. And what gets views? Drama! They purposely continue to bring in people who bring the drama by spreading misinformation and disinformation and straight up attack others. And from what I’ve seen (like you guys touched on) they never seem to stop these people whenever they get off topic or break the rules or spread misinformation, it’s always the people trying to correct the misinformation and blatant lies. It’s not as fair and balanced as they try to make it seem. For a channel like Jubilee to let all that go pretty much unchecked for the sake of “finding a middle ground” is just disgusting to me. “Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.” (Eli Wiesel)

That is false and I don't want anyone to go to hell but if you don't want to listen to the truth because your wittle feelwing will get hurt. That a you problem and you need to fix that. It was frustrating to see the Jubilee crew not step in and bring the conversation back to the prompt like they’ve done with other Middle Ground Videos. I was glad to see your group stand up for LGBTQ+ people especially since some of y’all are also religious. As someone who is still struggling to find my identity as either bi or pan (I was raised religious but am not now) I am glad people like y’all are here to listen and be kind.

For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

i am not sure if i am going to find the right words, but here it goes:
i started watching the jubilee video late at night. not the best selfcare practice for an ex-catholic bisexual.
i am so grateful for all of your work and agree that you make a wonderful team.
Gilbert, your way of clearly building community whereever you go is heartwarming and makes me so hopeful.
thank you for being your fabulous self and never stop snapping!
Candice, whenever you spoke i felt this wonderful hug of acceptance. you were literally a rainbow of softness, vulnerabitlty & fierceness. i wanted to jump through my screen when people questioned your personal relationship to god. and i LOVED the way you set boundaries.
there was this little child inside of me that thought: oh wow, when i grow up i wanna be like that!
Brandan, i admire your clarity and i am deeply thankful for your knowledge and consistency in pushing a queer perspective on bible studies. every time you made clear that there was no "healing" homosexuality and pressed them on being truthful made me feel seen and calmer.
Abigail, oh, i think i wouldn't have made it through the jubilee video without the shade! thank you so much for all your facial expressions and representing the intersex community. i cannot wait to hear more of your story!
**thanks for making spiritually healing content that matters!**

Rashad is just one of thousands of people that have had homosexual experiences and later turned around and married the opposite sex. Why is it difficult for you to accept that people can switch sides not only for religious reasons but because they may end up in love with someone of the opposite sex? If it's not true for you, it is true for others. There are people who have not returned to the gay lifestyle. Once gay alway gay and once a playa always a playa is an agenda to make people stuck and not see any possibilities of living a lifestyle other than the gay lifestyle.

I’ve only now come across you and I have thoughts… firstly I love how hard you are defending Abigail that truly lets me know you mean it when you say spread love. But second and most importantly I left the church bc of the harmful hateful things they said and thought about the LGBT community. I was an avid Christian and went to church camp every year. One year this pastor comes in and tells us his dad came out as gay and that made him soften his ideals but still thought he should never act upon his sexuality bc it’s a sin. After that it was downhill and it was everywhere I couldn’t escape it and knowing I was bi from a young age without knowing a label made that really hard bc I knew the second I labeled myself I’d be shunned and I was. And it never made sense bc my whole life I thought and still do think that being a Christian is about love loving yourself and loving those around you creating space where struggles aren’t as hard bc you have a community to fall back on. And leave the judgement to god bc that is and never will be a fallible humans job. So hearing not one but 3 Christian openly gay people pastors even makes me want to sob. The heartbreak the church put me and so many others through us insane and I just want to thank you for showing the world you don’t have to be hateful to be a Christian you don’t have to be straight to be a Christian thank you ❤

When I first started figuring out my sexuality I thought I was a lesbian. I identified as one for like a year. But I figured out that Im actually not. And thats totally fine. But you do not see me talking about lesbian issues simply because I never was one.

First have to say that I'm a gay cis man so context/perspective on my comment.
I watched the original video yesterday and was appalled the comments from the ex-LGBTQ side Rashad, Samuel, and most especially Xiala and even more so on the prompt about LGBTQ people not going to heaven knowing all too well that Abigail was in the room. I think your statement to them when you joined for the full panel discussion hit the nail on the head. Team LGBTQ was very articulate in their message and 99% of what I heard coming from the ex side was regurgitation of crap we hear all the time from the anti-LGBTQ side. As an agnostic, using the Bible or any other religious stance on being anti-LGBTQ is pointless. My feeling is YOUR God may be right for YOU but that doesn't mean YOUR God dictates MY life nor anyone else who doesn't believe in YOUR God. You live your life according to how your religion says but don't tell others what they can or cannot do simply because of your choice in religions. I think each of you (Candice, Abigail, Brandan and you GIlbert) are highly intelligent, compassionate, and caring individuals. I am happy to have got this as a recommended video to watch. And Brandan if you're reading this and looking for a slightly older than you bear living in California, feel free to slide into my DMs ;-) .... oh I hope the humor in that statement comes through on the interwebs

I’m surprised they couldn’t get a detransitioner, because they usually have opinions that go outside of “finding god” onto why they decided to stopped transitioning. i loved the lgbtq side of the panel, the ex-lgbtq side were mirrors of each other. there’s non-religious reasons onto why people go from lgbtq to not anymore.

1:20:45 Yes! Completely agree! And I've heard this many, many times- drag was done throughout history! Back when women weren't allowed to leave the home, theatrical performances still had to be performed. So who else would perform them? The men! The men would play many, many roles INCLUDING FEMALE ROLES. Many Chinese opera shows were all men. Men would play male *and* female roles. Drag has been and still is an art.

As an eclectic spiritual person who was raised Chrisitan, I knew that my spiritual journey of self-discovery would evolve and enlarge my perception of our worlds detailed nuances and possibilities. This also coincided with my understanding of my sexual orientation as well as others who either share or relate to similar experiences. Who and what we are composed of are only one of many constellations of our inner being. When ya'll were mentioning about how being prideful for being Christian somewhere around the 1:06:51 mark, I often hear from many ex-LGBT/homophobic individuals/groups that they say "well it's different with religion" and I feel like based on what I saw in the Jubilee video, it might have been the case with some of the ex-LGBT members side- particularly that one individual.
I'm in no way religious, if anything I'd have to say I'm Agnostic. But isn't the sin of pride often referred to in religion moreso in the context of being prideful in a way that puts others down? Being prideful in the way of celebrating Gay Pride puts no one down. It's a happy event that *we can* celebrate because it was not possible pre-Stonewall.

All of you are such beautiful people inside & out! ❤️ watching this was so comforting as someone who deals/dealt with a lot of religious trauma.
I’m a very spiritual person and have grown a lot throughout the years doing tons of self work. I truly want to do all I can on this earth to make the human experience as best and beautiful as possible for myself and others. What makes it possible for me is finding the best/beauty in others and everything. however, one part that I’ve yet to overcome if I’m following that, is the way I perceive religion. After lots of conversations I’ve had with myself, I truthfully believe I will never partake in religion at any point of my life. Part of it being that during my time in a church, they really did believe and think of the lgbt community as something demonic, along with so much other extremist shit. I was forced to go against my will by my parent & because of it, something I struggle in is seeing any beauty and understanding to other Christians. It’s gotten better because of lovely people like you but for the longest I would get irrationally angry whenever someone would bring up religion.
Watching this conversation is healing that.
The world needs more people like you all. & although you are all beautiful and wonderful, I will say I’m biased to Abigail being the mostest! hehehe. what a sweetie pie. 🥹🫶🏽

I'm not the best Christian in the world so I do not know if some "sins" are actually seen as worse than others (in the eyes of God), but I do know that all can be forgiven if we ask. As people, we don't view all sins as equal, we see murder as worse than pre-marital sex but the reality is that they are both sins. Therefore, I think the "middle ground" that was missed during this debate was pointing out that straight people sin undoubtedly sin just as much as LGBTQ+ people, but theoretically (bc Ik as a Christian, I won't be one to judge) anyone that lives a life of sin, whether it be stealing, pre-marital sex, infedelity, etc. and never asks for forgiveness and promotes the lifestyle will go to Hell (theoretically).

    • @pork8829
      @pork8829 10 місяців тому +1

The question then becomes, is the temptation to commit a homosexual sex a sin, and does the temptation alone make you LQBTQ? Is it only a sin if you act on it? And is it even a sin at all?
Another question is does the temptation to commit LQBTQ+ acts make you LGBTQ? If so, would the temptation to steal or cheat make you a theif or Aldultrer?
Point is that the whole debate hangs on whether committing homosexual acts is a sin.
