Monotubs are automated by physics u dont need all this, although im sure this works it kinda defeats the purpose of a monotub. If built correctly, a classic monotub can be spawned directly into fruiting conditions and never touched until harvest. I feel like a setup like the one you demonstrated would be better fit for exotic species like tamps or pans because normal cubes dont require that much fae. Also a real liner is much better at stopping side pins than paint because its not the light that causes the pins, it's the microclimate that's created as the substrate shrinks between the wall and the sub that makes it pin, so having a plastic liner means it will stick to the substrate and leave no gap for the microclimate. You don't have to worry about sterilizing it because bags are very clean from the factory being blow molded at the melting temp of plastic, and fully colonized spawn is resilient to contamination.
@@JamminWithJer then the monotub will regulate itself automatically with physics a properly made monotub should not EVER need to be opened from spawn to harvest
I think the best part about mycology is how everyone has different techniques and ways of doing things... you see big growers using bags and tubs using microtape or polyfill, you see misting, you see field capacity... What I've learned is the only thing that really matters is preventing contamination, because fungi wants to grow regardless of if it has ideal circumstances, sure different techniques will have different yields, quality of fruit, or potency but at the end of the day it's all about experimenting and documenting what we find so we can find the most optimal way to grow. So I thank you
People who use micro pore tape rather than polyfill have clearly never tried to blow through it with their mouth. It doesn’t not let air through. People who use it and get success do so only because the lid of the tub already has enough of an aid gap around it.
Light doesn't cause side pinning. Microclimate does. Pain't does nothing to stop that. The black garbage bag works because the plastic helps prevent the air from causing a microclimate between the sides and the substrate.
Another point to make…. Painting black around the outside of the bottom of the tub is not a replacement for a black plastic bin liner. The reason is that the plastic liner will stay stuck to the side edges of your substrate as it shrinks once fully colonised. This ensures no side pins because no air is provided to the sides. What this guy is doing is blocking light (another pinning trigger) only, but that gap will happen on the sides of your tub and when it does, you’re gonna get side pins.
This is awesome, thank you! This will make my Pan grow easy. Im going to put my fan lower to blow under my trays, which will be elevated on a dish rack so the trays can drip out moisture. Thanks!
Why not put the computer fan pulling air out of the tub? You create negative preasure, which makes the air go through the tape. Also you may blow contamenents in to your tub. What did i miss?
CO2 is heavier than O2 so it's harder to pull it out. Creating positive pressure can more effectively move it out of the lower holes instead of trying to pull it up to the vent fan.
Don’t you think that the fan should be reversed and facing out so instead of blowing possibly contaminated air in it instead cycles the co2 outwards and pulls clean air in through the air filter
Used to think the same thing too. Anecdotally, it's been better results blowing oxygen in. Either is better than nothing tho and maybe it gets reversed again in the future 😎
If you open your lid to fan it, then you are allowing outside air in anyway, and once it's fully colonized there is less chance of something out growing the mycelium.
The best method it to have the fan blowing in, with a filter on the outside of the fan. Only filtered fresh air enters to box and since it's now positive pressure keeps other contams out
Good tip heat up a cookie cutter on a heating element pliers drop it on to desired location walla you have a clean hole no fuss open a window and just be careful
Would be interested to know what you are growing in there that requires all this. Personally i have found great success using unmodified shoeboxes and just keeping an eye on them. I have always favored low tek/neglect teks the best but im sure this would work great too. Probably even better for species like pans and certain specialty strains/species that may require more FAE as well as higher moisture.
That was at least fun to watch. Will follow along and see how they turn out. Will it be hard to determine the right amount of humidity with this machine? Let’s find out
Thank you! It looks like I'm gonna grow some shrooms, since I am from Michigan I would love to grow some Morel Mushrooms, is it possible? Do you have something you could suggest for a first timer? I smoke weed I don't to trip I just want some shrooms I can eat
Also subscribed, your videos to me give great detail. I already own a mono tub I was gonna dabble last year and had a stroke and had to put everything on hold, and ironically was just fired from the same job so maybe its a sign to not go further, or a sign I need to go further? Tired of buying mushrooms and if could grow my own that would be awesome! Thanks again
@@Bongwell420 Hey thanks a million for the sub, that honestly means the world! Morels are such a treat, I hope everything goes smoothly for your grow and your health. Don’t do this guys. A fan with no filter blowing contaminants directly into your tub?! Not a sensible idea at all. There is little point putting all those holes in specific high and low positions in the tub if you’re gonna just add a fan and destroy the natural airflow the standard mono tub design facilitates.
Hi. This is a complete waste of time. Growers be aware that this solution is fun but needlessly technical. Standard mono-tub design works great and does everything you need. Yes I’ve tried this. The fan adds no value.
2:31. more safe if u use a steel pipe heat it on stove and melt a hole. no mechanical tension and the cuts r welded aswell.

The micropor tape is useless if using a fan. The fan is pulling contams into the tub
What’s a good fan cycle to start with? I have a timer I’m just not sure what’s a good schedule to start with.
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to buy one already made?

To cut holes instead use a heated metal cookie cutter
What is the benefit of the latter? Thanks
Question! So the black paint is outside the tub and not inside the tub?
do you have a video of this tub in action
this is good for edibles mushies like oyster
what duration do you set your humidifier and fan to?
Doesn't the fan blow all kinds of contaminants into the tub? Does it not matter because you're in the fruiting stage?

Indirect sunlight doesnt work at all. Once i got a led strip with daylight setting they exploded

Fan should blow OUT and suck fresh air through vent holes.
Are you really putting rain water in a ultrasonic humidifier? Have fun buying a new one every 6mo
If your going to make one of these you should just invest in a marthas tent
