I always ordered if I could apply the hard gel as a top coat but why you file after cure?is it needed?

Basically I use 2 coats of hard gel to level out the gel polish and so everything is nice and smooth free from any lumps. It also locks in the color for when I file to make the edges crisp. It’s not needed but I like the finish look
