My father passed on Tuesday from sepsis. So suddenly and I'm lost without him. My bestie merv, we've chosen this as one of his hymes..as a neighbour, father or friend he was always there xx Love you dad, infinity and beyond ❤️ xxx
I was just sitting at home and this song just popped into my mind and I started to singing, for it was a sing of my youth. So I thought i'd look it up and here we are. 😊
If you need to play bass to this, and you have a music copy of Songs of Fellowship, lose the book and make it up yourself. Those chords are all over the place to give the Celtic "feel" to the song. All you really need is that it's in the key of E: E.G E.B.E D.G.B.D#.E
I'm now living in a new block of flats for over 55's. We are among a black community. I've had nothing but kindness, respect and they do look after me when I'm out on my mobility scooter. It's lovely to feel this. The people in the flats however, are racist, say some horrible things and I'm learning very quickly who to spend time with. Not many, I can tell you. I too used to sing this hymn in primary school and I now know it gave me the steadfastness to not be judgemental against someone's race, colour, creed and to accept people just as they are. The problem being, I share a communal garden with these awful people which strikes me to the core. They're also against the LGBTQ+ people too. It's horrendous in 2024 this still goes on. I think I'll decorate my little piece of garden with pride flags and the Quram! Take care everybody. X ❤
Curious that this is referred to as a Christian song, because it's actually about how we should treat our fellow human beings, whatever our (or their) beliefs, race etc -- and that goes for atheists and humanists just as much. If anything, it plays down the religious significance in place of a moral humanitarian stance. Many self-professed Christians -- particularly those in the USA deep south -- would show up very badly when judged against these words.
In primary school when we sang this we all laughed at the word naked for some reason
That made me laugh reading this, still makes me laugh now thinking back to primary and singing this...
Same...and I remember a teacher taking us to task for it.
Same! 🤣🤣

And the Creed & The Colour & The Name Won't Matter, Were you there
This song should be a reminder to all Christians how we should be treating those seeking help and asylum.
