Super interesting document of Dessay’s youthful voice and still developing technique! Already incredibly polished, but some relative shortness of breath here and there (only relative to her almost superhuman breath control only a handful of years later), and some surprisingly fragile tones around the top of the staff and just above. Strange that she modifies the vocal line to an upward scale rather than a concluding leap at 2:22-2:30. A technical aid or a memory slip? Beautiful singing, of course. Dessay may have devoted herself to being a “singing actress,” but people often forget that she REALLY could and can SING.

Interesting record. She definitely got better over the years.
Dear Songbirdwatcher... "Paris" in the video title - it is really a bit confusing. Rather Abbaye de Royaumont, June 9, 1991
