    My dad owned a car just like this one. He crashed the car several times until he totaled it. I loved that car for being so comfy, quick and good looking. I used to smoke ricers around and it handled and felt really nice on the road.Tgere wont be this kind of cars again but ill love this cars forever.

    Good to see this video. I enjoyed the video. I own a 1995 Oldsmobile 98 and a 1992 Oldsmobile Toronado. They sold a lot of this generation of Eighty Eights. It has a reliable power train too. The instrumentation was updated in 1994. The buttons were gone. Two models grew out of the line in 1997: LSS and Regency. Thank you for sharing.

    You've got to love that GM drew in a vent window on these cars but it doesn't open.

    As a lifelong Olds fan, I can understand how some prefer the land yachts of the 70s and 80s. But by the early 90s, Buick and Pontiac had pushed Olds out of its niche, and GM was beginning to see the writing on the wall. They tried to position Olds as the upscale import fighter. It didn't work...for the same money, you could buy an entry level BMW or Mercedes.

    Ahh my first car. I had a 1992 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Royale LS with the Digital Dash. I loved everything about the car the only thing I didn't like was the dash layout. Probably the only complaint I had. I drove the hell out of the car, the roads where I live are probably some of the worst in the Northern Hemisphere and the suspension took a good beating out of the 9 years I owned it. But like all things it got to expensive to fix and eventually went to the scrapper. The 95 Buick I own now just doesn't compare.

    I like the pre-emptive flipping-the-bird to Car and Driver at 0:38...lol
    This video is odd. You label it as a promotional film, and it mostly has that feeling to it, but there are a few spots where he has some cutting words to say about the car/other GM cars.

    When olds downsized the 98 in 85 and the 88 in 86, add some of the horrid small cars Olds had with all the lost customers that came with the late 70 & 80s diesels, the THM 200 transmissions found in full size 88 & 98 that had a high failure rate, Chevy motors found in what customers thought should have been Olds and overall poor quality left the name tainted that could never recover.

    I just got one and it is making me mad. It cranks like crazy but will not start. Died the first day I had it. Ran great when it ran but now it's a big ass paperweight.

      Yeah that's fair to say. Their powerplants were untouchable though. The famous 3800 will go down as one of the best motors GM has produced (that is fuel injected and offered in a vast lineup). The 3800 was a Buick motor right?

    • @billb6899
      @billb6899 5 років тому

      @@snipindowntown Right, 3800s have their origins in Buick. Great engine! We've had 7 cars with 3800s in our family, never an internal engine failure (and overall very few problems at all!) - I've personally driven them a total of about 750,000 miles (1988 Touring Sedan was still going strong at 371,000). After several years without one, I recently found a 1994 Olds LSS with 77K miles. Nice to be back in an Olds with a 3800! Only thing I really dislike on this platform is the Passkey anti-theft system, but I've learned how to completely bypass it.
