- While our first look video of the Citroen Basalt SUV Coupe is already out, we will focus more on big positives and negatives of this car in this one. While it shares its engine and gearbox options with the C3 Aircross, it's priced a little lower than the latter. Its base variant is priced at Rs 7.99 lacs, but the one we drove - top-end turbo AT - is expected to have a price tag of Rs 15-15.5 lacs on road.

I agree with 360 cameras and cruise control, But most people in India do not want a sunroof. It's just young idiots who think a sunroof is somehow a must.
Totally agree with u but autocar india did a video with a huge marketing agency which most car companies hire for consumer surveys n they were shocked to know more than 50 percent buyers want a sun roof even if they dont need it but for flaunting n for kids. Useless nonsense but cars sold due to this.
Wrong. Thats just your own opinion, not necessarily fact. There are at least one survey which shows more than 50% of buyers want it. They will not use it, but they want it. It sells products.

While I agree that sunroof is such a useless "feature", but you're forgetting one thing. Our country has no shortage of morons. The survey that shows 50% people want sunroofs is proof of that. People will pay for something absolutely useless rather than paying for a superb engine like the C3 Aircross.

Less service cost as well. These chapri manufacturers give all bells and whistles and the service and repair cost will increase 4x due to those same features when they stop working.

For a middle class buyer, 11:07 lack of auto dimming IRVM is not a deal breaker, start stop button & passive keyless entry is basically just showing off features. Cruise control is something you will use when you go on highways regularly not occasionally and if a car has 205 NM Torque it has more than sufficient pulling power for hills and pulls through when trying to overtake so no need for paddle shifters. Sunroof craze will wane off when people will realise that it actually creates vulnerability in the car for crash tests. Type C chargers, 360 camera for parking ease and ventilated seats for Indian summers are essential misses.
Anyone who thinks that keyless door entry and start-stop engine button is just a gimmick has clearly NEVER driven a car with those features. The only thing that's a gimmick is the sun-roof. But the reality is that people want that too. So this car fell short in so many different ways!
@@Gamer-monk. I was driving an asta i20 with such features and it got unfortunately stolen with some hacker thief. My car was insured for full IDV - Insured Declared Value and I bought a Wagon R later without those features. MORAL - There are 2 sides to a coin. I don't want to argue, bicker, diss & fight over in the comments section respectfully 🙏. So for me it is just gimmicks & downright risky too. Though I am not stopping anyone if they want to buy such cars. I won't.
exactly... The missing features are not so much required... Comparing a car of this segment with a hatchback for "Cruise Control" is not logical...I accept that top end variant is definitely lacking in features if we compare it with other cars of same price in this segment but then those cars also are not offering the suspension & other mechanicals like Citroen...We cannot get all the checklist in one car....Yes, I accept that Citroen should increase the brand awareness....Their PR & marketing team should not keep the media events to limited media only...
@@AutoGeekGroup I 💯% agree, the brand awareness & brand recall must be there. It should be like if someone says scooty - they think of Activa. This cannot happen in a year but it has to start and it's relative importance cannot be undermined. Totally possible in 2024 to create a brand image.

Cruise control has no practical use on crowded Indian highways with slow moving vehicles.
Not every highway is crowded. Cruising on highway gives big relief also good fuel efficiency....

I would any day recommend the middle class people to choose good comfort and ride over useless features. It’s not your job to educate the people on finances and from that point of view the video is fine.
This car has got the basics right and given you the right features. Yes, there’s still room for improvement. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that the Basalt should be the go-to big car for someone on a budget (middle class people).

Disappointing review.
I don't get why people are calling Basalt Value for money or cheap. The base model price is literally 9 Lakhs on road which is the exact same (even slightly higher) as it's competitors Venue, Sonet & Fronx since it's pitched in the same segment.
Comparing Basalt with Curvv is just pointless as they are entirely different segment cars. So the price difference will be obvious.
I see a lot of reviewers providing biased reviews which narrows down the choice for buyers in India. Let them try out for themselves and decide what suits them. If the cars basics are sorted such as Engine- Gearbox Combination, Ride and Handling, Ergonomics, Overall Fit and Finish and Material Quality, the car should do well, as it’s an honest effort by the company. Stop driving away customers even before they’ve seen the car in the flesh. FYI , sit in e-C3 or C3 and feel the ride quality which is far better than all sub 4 m SUVs and some bigger 4.3m ones as well.

If some one gives feedback in a way that he has reviewed this car, then he would become restless and react immediately justifying his statements his opinions.
This is what I observed and I don’t want to follow this kind of journalists who will definitely kill brands like citroen who are trying to improve and provide value for middle class people like us.
Even at 15.5 lakhs on road for topend
No other product in the competition offers the kind of performance and transmission(torque converter) suspension set up and the basic essential features that citroen offers
Only thing I feel missing in this basalt is push start/stop button and better looking door handles and cruise control
Then again no car is perfect and there is something missing in every other car but I am willing to compromise on the misses in basalt than the others.
I hope citroen revives from basalt and make even better value proposition products.

Bhai kal galti se Citroen ne hi apne official website pe leak kar di thi. As per that the top-end would cost Rs 13.57 lacs which means over 15 lacs on-road. It’s not a secret anymore, just google it. 😅

As for the car, It is sad that a good driving car will be ignored because it has less features.
Cruise Control and load sensors on the rear seats should have been added in this car.
I couldn't care less about sunroof but it is indeed a great selling point in India for some odd reason.
But one feature I believe we really need is ventilated seats.
No other car at this price point offers a torque converter automatic barring kushaq onyx (if that's true). That is a huge difference even with similar features. Its as simple as that. Plus this car has very good fundamentals.

Yes the taxes are more(even the 1.5 offered in Suzuki cars I mentioned have more taxes than a 1.2 turbo or not) those cars but that doesn't mean they are not in the same price bracket

The so called "features" that you asked for are ridiculous. You cannot have all these useless features and ask for a competitive pricing.
What you would need is reliability & driving comfort.
No automatic headlights, auto wipers, led tail lamps..... you call them features!!!
Pls do an objective review on drive, ergonomics, & safety. Features are not too important for a budget conscious buyer.

This product is far better then Maruti and Korean products which has good feature list but not good to drive. Agree few more features could have been incorporated and the service network should be expanded. But these French cars are amazing to drive and extremely comfortable.

That's literally a well thought out sales strategy that has worked for manufacturers across the globe. And when you have a car with spot on fundamentals - excellent ride quality, great stability around corners and good engines, things like 360° camera and start stop button can take a backseat.

You are right Citreon C3 offers the Basic Taxi models which are good enough for the rural market.
Urban City Buyers are aspirational & more than 80% only wants the best offerings. And that the reason why Citreon C3 lineup is suffering. Buyers will always compare Cars before buying.
In India buying a Car involves family members & is a Status symbol unlike in Europe where its primarily used for everyday commuting.
Citreon Brand is in Negative. Hence buyers do not have faith, trust & confidence in buying their Car unless he is knowledgeable & happy with the Basic Taxi offerings by Citreon.
Same is the case with Renault & Nissan brands Triber, Kiger, Kwid & Magnite. Buyer do not want to visit Showrooms because their Road presence is very poor.
Out of so many people who have reviewed this, only this uncle is too much critical. But iI find this too be the most practical review because it gives a new perspective. He didn't vomit the things in which it does better. Those who are very serious about buying this would weigh their pros and cons accordingly. Well done.
For 15.50L onroad in Delhi, this is an awesome deal. No other top end variant of other cars come with such engine specs
Yogi ji, you yourself answered that Stellantis is struggling to sell atleast 500 cars in India. So don't take features as negatives, they are just offerings based on Stellantis bare minimum survival approach.
In that case, they need to be courageous enough to offer us some quality products especially when the competition is cut throat. we all know what happened to Datsun that chose a similar strategy, and we also know what happened to Kia when they went all out with features and everything that the Indian buyers wanted. Sabke saamne hai dono ki strategies. All I am saying is Citroen makes some world class products outside India, India too deserves their quality products. This low-cost product strategy hasn’t worked for them so far, they could try a different strategy this time around. Indian market is value-conscious, they don’t buy products that are cheap. Even Tata Nano failed for this very reason.
This car is for someone who wants a big car at less price without safety being compromised.
They couldn’t find any buyers so far. Even C3 and C3 Aircross, based on the same platform, are also budget vehicles. How about trying a different strategy this time around and offer us quality product?

I think you should be associated with the Citroën group and advise them. You rightly mentioned that, given their pricing, they could effectively target rural India. However, they remain largely unknown even in urban areas, which highlights the shortcomings of their marketing team. Moreover, the absence of basic features is very disappointing. Even a car enthusiast who might appreciate their engine and driving dynamics would shy away due to these missing essentials.

This is the best car in this price budget
100 % sahi bola ye Europe ki Maruti India mai bana chahte hai per network week hai enka. Enko bhi bhi Volkswagen ke tarha quality and performance at cheap rate pe focus kerna hoga. Varna Ford bhi nahi tika pai Thai acha engine or service ke baad bhi kyu ki design pe focus nahi keya usne.
Citroen is trying to cater a class who aspires for Creta but have budget of Venue. So let's take the price point in consideration before being critical over its lack of features like cruse control, sunroof, ventilated seats. With good engine and one of the best suspension, The company just need to focus on brand to marketing and increase in it's dealer network to penetrate in Indian market. It's not the lack of premium features that is keeping the customer away but the marketing efforts and very few dealer presense.
Car ko gadget mat banao. Sunroof sunroof karte rehte sab bas. Utar k dekh lo aasman bhai. Iska Engine, transmission and suspension best hai segment me. All Functional features apart from Cruise control (that too only usable in expressways) are there. Ford ki tarah ye bhi chali jayegi, Fir padhte rahenge feature list brochures me or second hand market me dhoondhte rahenge koi fun to drive car dila do. Diesel cars ki aise hi govt. Ne le rakhi hai. Iklota engine h segment jisko chala k diesel wali feel aati h and that too without any turbo lag. Ab jab 6 airbags or window switches Sahi jagah pe de diye h toh 10 lac k under C3 turbo and 12 lac pe Basalt are very good options. Bas C3 me automatica transmission ki kami reh gyi jo company le ayegi kuch dino me jaise baki functional features le k aayi h.

I have driven and owned cars from Maruti 800 to Honda accord and I guess I can also add to the discussion:
1. Safety is one of the things which I consider a top priority while buying thus I wouldn't trust a reinforced structure. (I was very infamous in India with my perrs to force them to use seatbelts in the backseats if they want to travel with me)
2. Push button start, good backup camera, auto headlamps and auto wipers are not gimmicky features but very useful. (Many people called them useless in comment section).
3. A small sunroof is a must in a car, especially in similar weather in which current video is filmed. FYI: I am one of those guys who wouldn't allow you to get your head out from the sunroof even if the car is standing. I love and care about my car's seats more... (Plus a sunroof has become a minimum required feature in India provided its given with basics like eear defogger, I am looking at you Mahindra.
4. IMO Nick picking on the thigh seat adjustment was a little more but honestly that is a useless feature for mass and those rupees could have been inveted in something else like better lioking door handles, lol.
5. Also IMO the wireless chargers are useless as they are very slow.
6. Is the USB C provided in other cars faster than the USB A here, if not it doesn't make any difference.
Sir, the majority of those comments justifying everything Citroen has done are from bot accounts managed by an agency. Those comments are about as real as Citroen’s fan base in India. I create content for actual potential buyers who have every right to know all the details before they make a final decision on any product.

I think rear parking camera quality should have been better they should have given a engine start stop button and yes plastic quality matters. But sunroof is useless feature in India. Most phones in India comes with type- A to C charging cable so its good.
Id definitely miss auto start nd 360 camera. But the rest id live with. There are variants of xuv 700 that dont have 360 degree cameras nd sunroof, jus parking sensors r given i think!! The top model AT, if its less than 15 on road, its a good deal then. Dunno why but citroen has the most wierd approach to indian market. Its almost like their shameless, come here to do tp!!...Only pricing can save the basalt. But she's definitely a headturner 😍
No everyone does not want a sunroof I feel it's the most gimmicky feature. Why do you want a sunroof in India 🇮🇳 I just don't get it. I feel there should be an optional variant for the sunroof or vice versa without sunroof.

This will chart ahead of the Tata Curvv. First off it ticks off all the right boxes for the required features. Second its not full of complications like the Tata Curvv, so the chance of a breakdown in one area triggering a breakdown in other areas is limited. Finally, everyone knows that you do not want to deal with Tata's service experience. Yes, Citroen is relatively new but they have made the right moves and adapted beautifully with each iteration. Finally lets not forget the killer price point! They will take over the market of they continue to innovate at this pace.

There will be buyers for those who want cars to be used and not to show off. Sunroof is a waste; used by kids ti hang out of the car. If safety is at least 4 stars, this should be a great ownership.
I am surprised to see a review that focuses more on extra frills than the basic qualities of a good car like top class ride quality, great suspension and a good turbo engine with impressive torque. A car needs to drive well first and foremost, I suppose. Many offer fancy features to camouflage poor basics. Citroen is a top global brand and those who can afford must look at their C5 which has excellent features and drives like makkan.

Good for two adults only, the width isn’t much.
3 fit adults weighing between 60-70 can sit comfortably, 2 healthy adults with one child no issues. This is same for every car, SUV under 20 lakhs other than some MUV's from Kia and Suzuki.

Sunroof, moonroof, push start stop button is unnecessary acording to me. As one starts to use the car without these features, they will not miss them at all.
I saw the gncap report of the body structure of eC3 was found stable, you can check it again
ec3 had to go through several structural changes because they had to accommodate a battery pack, and it still scored a zero. C3 Aircross’ platform, wherever it got tested, was found unstable.

@@ICN there's ec3 and european 2018 aircross. The model we have here is yet to be tested. If I'm wrong show me a UA-cam video of Indian model c3 aircross getting crash tested.
@@ICN C3 aircross is not tested yet. Tell the whole story, C3 score was better than maruti suzuki, lack of safety features costed them zero star . Like 6 airbags, esp , 3 point seatbelt reminder.

I think this review was a bit too harsh for a fully localised brand that too only which is in it's early stages. At the end of the day it's a car that starts at 7.99 lakhs u can't complain about the top end model that dosnt have its features its a car that is meant to be on a budget from the ground up l. As far as citroen having better cars in Europe that's a totally different market approach thier doing which I'm sure citroen woth it's future models will bring those up market cars to india as well be it not we already have the c5 aircross which is an up market car .

Please compare the car with variants of other cars offered at same price while assigning the appropriate/ deserved value to the engine, suspension and transmission being offered in those and this car.
First job of a suspension is keep the wheels touching the road, your comfort is the second priority
If suspensions aren’t tuned for comfort especially in a mass-market segment, then they are of no use. And luckily Citroen has achieved that

When Citroen eC3 was launched, although it is in the same segment as that of Nexon, they compared it with Tiago. When Basalt launched, they started saying Curvv is a segment above. Tata should focus on improving reliability of their vehicles so as to less load their service centers (service centers are often blamed- but the hard reality is their cars are still in immature state) than paying for fake positive reviews.
