Korey Hinkle They say never meet your heroes but Artie met and worked for one of his heroes. Then he got belittled and demeaned for a few years by that insecure pos
Artie rarely made me laugh, I just do not get why people like him. So many other comedians that came on had me in stitches, Artie just came across as tedious and lazy. Nick Dipaolo, Colin Quinn, Louis CK, Norm Mcdonald, even damn Joe Rogan made me laugh more. I don't think you can be funny when you are on heroin, it's all consuming and takes away your funny, it makes you very dull and angry, and boy was Artie angry whenever he was confronted or made fun of, he really could not take it. Fat liar.
This is Howard trying to manipulate Artie into making him feel like the Howard Stern Show is the only job he can get and there are no other options for a D list celebrity like himself. Howard trying desperately to foster that good codependency that he loves so much, all because Artie had the balls to keep his options open.
It's so true. He always would do that in either in a really overt way or a more subtle way like this where he very thinly veils the fact that he can't have the attention taken off of him. In a way I feel for Beth. Can you imagine what it's like living with him? He's like a little baby who needs constant attention and needs to constantly get his way while bitching all of the time. She deserves some money for putting up with him. He literally whines when Beth is away for a few days.
Definitely got Howard pegged, but Artie is a bit of a hack. His movies and standup suck, and John’s impression of Art laughing at his own jokes is spot on too.
he didnt get upset because people were goofing on him. come on, hes artie lange. he got upset when Howard implied that his position wasn't permanent. Artie loved this show. It made his career
Howard was definitely upset with Artie about something and chose to express it passive aggressively. In this segment, Artie could do no right. When Artie shits on Conan's original lineup, Howard INSTANTLY goes, "oh I like them". Of course you do Howard - anything to disagree with Artie on this day. Artie was also upset by Howard saying all that shit about Conan having a shitty lineup, which included Artie. Who knows - maybe Howard was having second thoughts about making Artie the permanent guy. I can totally understand why Artie left that day thinking, "what the fuck did I just sign on for?"
Howard’s take on George Harrison is moronic. He claims to be a Beatles fan, but he clearly doesn’t know how important he was to the band and as a musician.
Chapelle was on Howards show multiple times, and BEFORE this. So Howard recognized Dave's talent before Conan, yet also simply acknowledged that Dave wasn't an A list guy at this juncture.
Stuttering John was insanely jealous of Artie. First, Artie's Conan appearance that they referenced is here on UA-cam. It's perfect. He was very funny. But Artie came from the outside and took over Jackie's old chair, and Stuttering John was bitter and thought he deserved it. That's all there is to it.
Yea he was so bitter when John did that I'm a celeb get me outta here and leno and I think gary had a good attitude he followed the show for a co worker and friend and gary went out to l.a. I think to watch him on leno . Howard was so bitter and trashed the show I'm not saying it was good I didn't even watch it but I don't know be supportive. Howard was like I hated it and I couldn't watch it when he probably watched it every week . But too cool for school. U know how howard purposely screws up celebs names when he's such a star fucker. In his more recent years he was sitting next to Orlando bloom at Jennifer Aniston s last aborted wedding he's like I sat next to this great looking guy I'm luke who are u? Oh please gary says howard and Beth go through every page of us weekly ripping on everyone . Howard has no eye for talent joe rogan was one of the guys in the running for the job and he picked artie ? Joe is the most relevant guy rigjt now and he doesn't do interviews with has beens only. He has political people comics scientists guys tjat have phds who talk about atheism Muslims thay guy sam something that Ben Affleck attacked . I know his name but my memory is bad tonight
@@justmissjamey lol are you fucking joking right now? Joe Rogan is a lot more intelligent person than howard stern. Howard doesn't even have the intellectual ability to hold a conversation that can be both entertaining and educational. That's why his dumb-ass style of entertainment is dying out fast. He knew this which is why he branched out and started doing things like americas got talent. He can't do a show where he isn't ripping on someone. Because his entire show requires ganging up on one person and then trying to pick them apart in a personal way for his own entertainment. He even went on Letterman saying how many regrets he has for what kind of a person he is. Its really not surprising either.
Listening to these old clips, you can hear how much John actually controlled the show at times with the callers. He only put through, or manipulated, the callers to carry out his agenda. I loved it when the callers would turn on John when he went into the studio.
Howard has a screen that tells him the name of the caller, where theyre from and what theyre calling about so he knows which ones hes taking, hes doing it.
@@uggggggghhhhh who do you think typed that information for Howard to read on his screen the majority of the time? There’s countless segments when Howard and John argue, when John goes back to the call screening, callers are pro-John. When John is in studio, the audience suddenly seems to be against John.
John really beat that laughing bit into the ground. He has an incredible ability to make something that is funny, incredibly annoying and unfunny in seconds.
John had the most amazing career got an internship where he answered phones for free, was given every opportunity in the world for success, and catastrophically failed every one of them with the money he made he could have invested it and retired early, but no, he's now a part-time substitute teacher or something
Like the emotional friend bit, guy who laughs at everything bit, literally any bit involving changing his voice? I hate John too, but let's not get delusional here and act like Artie is some comedic genius.
Actually you can see it. John rags on Artie for fifteen minutes over his laugh and appearance and Artie takes it really well. Then Gary walks in to merely mention how John got on a table and made everyone watch the tv in a bar for his appearance and you could hear him instantly get defensive.
Artie said years later Howard was mad about the appearance and stuttering John lets the calls thru to attack Artie bc he thought he should have Jackie’s job
It truly makes me believe in karmic justice. Everything John has ever ragged on people for, happened to him. He became an ugly, gross bitter man with a voice like a gravel driveway
Just heard this segment referenced on Artie's podcast, and he is absolutely right about Howard's passive aggresiveness. He was clearly irritated by something said on the Conan interview and chose to start the show off by giving Artie a beating through the use of negative callers and Stuttering John. Also, he immediately mentions that Artie had requested a clip of the E show and that Conan people wouldnt use it. Knowing what I do now I guarantee that Howard let Artie have the clip, but probably really didnt want that bit to be aired for whatever reason (reinforces the concept of Howard as a scumbag and degrading females) and so had his agent prevent it from being utilized on Conan.
Gardenhoser23 Howard afraid of a bit they did so many fucking times and was played over and over on the E! show to the extent where my sister and I were like what the fuck, is this all they are doing now? Yes he's afraid of that... you're out of your mind with the fucking theories.
Well whatever man but yeah he's done that shit before back in the day when John would go on shows and use his interview clips, Howard had it shut down, and look at the PC Howard more recently who would so not do that shit anymore and very over protective and aware of his image and brand. Maybe back then was the advent of that progression, or yeah maybe just nutball theory lol f it
20 years later Dave Chappelle bigger then Stern Artie becomes the most popular personality on the Stern Show when the show was at its peak Stuttering John left for Jay Leno and is irrelevant Stern writes a book and says Conan Is his favorite interview in his shows history
I respectfully disagree , the show reached its peak on KROCK with Jackie and Billy West. Although the first 5 years on Sirius were great it went downhill fast. A real stern fan will tell you, the show was untouchable in its early years. 2021
George was easily the most talented musician of the Beatles and not far from Lennon and McCartney as a songwriter. For Howard to call him “dumb” and “boring” goes to show how ignorant he was about George. He was very witty and had a great sense of humor-he financed the Python films and never took himself too seriously. He was reclusive and avoided the spotlight, but far from boring as he was fairly opinionated and not afraid to call it the way it is. He was a humble soul and is deeply missed.
are you really surprised. Howards a simple man. Hes not on the level of genius that a guy like Harrison was on. He can't relate to deep thoughtful songs compared to Pauls very basic, pop formula
yeah. i know. George was a genius. absolutely. The Beatles are the best band there have ever been. but relax. it's okay. even for Beatle fans, it's fine. let him have his views. who cares?
Howard is really contradictory in these older shows. He’s a Beatles fanatic, especially George. I think he pretended a lot back then so more people would think he was edgy
he always used to do that. He would ride that button to death. Its almost like his sound effects werent being pumped into everyones headphones. NO ONE acknowledges the sound effect after the 5th time, but he keeps hitting it. It really screws up the comedic moments. The Jackie scratch was the worst. I just would turn it off when he started, then hop back on it 20...
I think I have good taste in comedy but I think artie is awful and I know a lot of people think he's hysterical I guess it's subjective. I wish someone would explain to me why they like artie so much lol. Like during the who wins jackie chair I was like oh no when they picked artie. I mean they had bill burr Joe rogan Adam corolla aj Benza would have def gotten it if not for going to punch john and hitting gary. Lol. He was in like everyday . So thanks john Aj can be arrogant but I liked him. I mean Joe rogan is huge ! He's the most relevant guy rigjt now . Artie I just cringed at his unfunny jokes and the later years when he was a drugged out mess being a nasty fuck throwing things attacking people being so high he was sleeping I just thought what a waste of the cushiony job ever. The attack on Joe buck I can't even watch it's so awful & artie s ego about it calling up sports guys repeating over and over he's a rebel ans rock n roll all hopped up on coke I was like honey ur not john belushi or Carlin or murphy. How can u Pass on bill burr
@@natalieps2387 It's not about being a great standup comedian. I think Bill Burr is a much better standup comedian, BUT Artie is a good storyteller, had a lot of stories to tell, had razor sharp wit, and as Gary would say, he really got the show. Artie was a huge fan, so he knew how to fit in with the tempo of the show. AJ would have been great on the show too. He basically had the job until he went and cracked Stuttering John in the head. Artie and Jackie were completely different roles too. Jackie wrote a lot of the jokes. Artie was scared he was going to lose his job because Howard would never use the jokes he wrote. He just couldn't write in Howard's voice. So, Howard decided to just leave his mic on at all times (Robin was the only person with that privilege before Artie). It worked while it lasted. Any survey I've seen has most fans saying the Artie years were the best ones. Think of how it would have played out if AJ got the job and managed to stay on the show until today.
This is classic Howard shitting on his employees that do things outside of his show. Artie wouldn't roll over and show his belly so he didn't get it as bad
16:00 Dave Chappelle ? Really Howard ? This bit must have been before the Chappelle show aired because that was easily the funniest tv show of it's time hands down. And Chappelle walked away gracefully, and on fire.
olskoolnewpaint Howard is out of his mind. Even before The Chappelle Show Killin Them Softly was hilarious. "And Chappelle walked away gracefully, and on fire" This is something Howard should've done a LONG time ago.
chapelle was on the show a lot before this, his appearances were always awesome and he was considered a friend of the show...but his career just did get as big as it eventually did yet during this. i dont think howard meant tht as a diss or anything...
Howard turned into a Jewish yenta, Art turned into a grey haired heroine addict with a nose only a cartoonist could dream of and John turned into a PC Dice Clay.
I reckon this was Howard testing what to do with the new Artie. He goofed on Jackie tonnes and figured he'd give it a try, but I bet he listened back and saw it didn't come off the same.
Yes he admitted it in another segment one time that he doesn't goof on Artie the same way he does the others because he knows he's more sensitive in a way that comes off sad on the air.
Howard was constantly trying to get artie worked up and then be his friend at the same time, so passive aggressive. Those callers in the beginning make it so obvious, you know damn well howards looking at a screen that says "so and so from wherever - comment: artie is a cokehead, artie sucks." Then he casually goes to the phone like ohh lets see what so and so has to say here
Artie talks about this in a recent podcast and he never forgave John for it..Artie just got the job and he thought stuttering John was trying to sabotage him here because, John sat in that chair for 2 days and he wanted it..It's obvious John but up all those negative calls and then walked in the studio to pounce on him..And Howard wanted to rip him to for not getting that clip on Conan.
Howard really dude??? "Conan cant get any guests, Artie and uhhh Dave Chappelle. who are funny guys and everything" Dude Dave Chappelle is only one of the funniest comedians in the world. In Dave's prime when he had his show he was a force that only Richard Prior felt
Dumbest comment ever, you must be Half Brain Dead LMAO! This Stern Show segment was after Killin' Them Softly' (2000). Universally considered one of the greatest stand-up specials ever! Hey, I here Kevin Hart & Chris Rock are pretty good at stand-up and here's what he said. "Me and Chris [Rock] were joking about how Dave was just so much better than us - the thought process behind his jokes," our cover star Kevin Hart told GQ. "How he makes it look effortless… He's in a different realm. He's out of this world, man. Ridiculous."
Artie isn't laughing because 'his' stories are amusing he's laughing at the reaction the crowd has. There's a sense of euphoria with comedy, and knowing that you created a connection with your audience becomes 'his' enjoyment... That's how he expresses enjoyment, by laughing.
Cool… That’s what fucking hack comedians do. Luckily they have weird pathetic fan boys to walk around and “explain” why they are laughing at their own jokes. The only thing wrong with your stupid theory is the fact that Artie says shit all the time that he laughs at and thinks it’s hilarious and everyone thinks it’s just mildly amusing. 100% fucking fact. I can think specifically Word for Word of a time when Artie made a joke about Eric the midget being able to see his feet in his drivers license picture… And Howard said without any humor in his voice at all wow Artie your hammered and Artie… Who is hysterical at his own joke… Says through the laughter come on that’s a good joke… Please explain how that was him being euphoric about what he created with comedy you dumb douche bag.
Jackie basically invented the Howard Stern show. Before Jackie, Howard's show was hit or miss. When Jackie retired, Howard kept the format because it worked with or without Jackie even if the jokes were not as funny or as frequent. He doubled down and worked really hard to keep the show entertaining, and he had on-air talent like Stuttering John to shoulder some of the responsibility, but Artie really saved the show. His first few years rejuvenated the show, but once started to get all strung out, the show suffered. Howard really, really needs a talented comedian in the Jackie/Artie chair, and the last few years of Artie's tenure, Artie was unwilling or unable to consistently fill that role.
JulianZeezer Douche jackie never retired. He fucked over his team & himself as he always has. Fred is the core of the Howard gang & talentless stuttering john continues to fuck himself over. I do miss Artie...
JulianZeezer IMO I think it was just the sign of the times. You can only stay at the top for so long. He had his peak in the 90's, after that the shock value had burned itself out. Moving to Sirius didn't help.
Couldn't agree with you more, I've always for some odd reason loved Fred more than the others. And man of man do I miss Artie, I currently still listen to the Stern show, but it lacks the laughs because everyone is so scared of offending people now. I also think that Sterns crew has never been so talentless
Im 24 from Australia, never really knew what Howard was about, i've obviously heard of him but didn't really get that to into it. Probably the only reason why i started getting into the Howard Stern show was Arties Joe buck appearance where he pretty much took over the whole show. Didnt really see the appeal with Jackie and that era, but when Artie came into it, especially when howard gave him freedom with the mic, i loved it, hes very funny and very relate-able , and than Sal that ignorant racist, (absolutely loved him and richard) took it to the next level. I love watching clips between - 2002 / 2009. Stuttering John was eh, the only thing i liked about SJ was the cabbie fight and press conference. Artie is King
Sounds like this is the incident Artie referred to when he said that Howard would be passive aggressive when he was upset with you, and take calls from people who were bashing you, and then pretend to defend you, and say something like, “I don’t know what he’s talking about. I thought you did good on Conan…”
@@jasoncoffmanandhunterjimmithy No, it's not why I listen. I like the fun ribbing, the bizarre people. I don't listen because I want to hear a nerdy millionaire creepy trying to drive his friends to suicide.
Howard has a radio show to do. Artie always took things personally because he’s narcissistic. EVERYTHING revolved around Artie instead of the show. Artie says these things now because he realized Howard didn’t need him.
John seems to laugh at everything he says to. Blobin is just out of control , just repeating everything with just a change of one word if that. Or the best line is , " that's what I was going to say " & Howard never calls her out cuz he's been trained by her.
Artie would never have been heard from again if it wasn’t for Howard. He really isn’t funny or a good actor. I am sure he is a good guy but his ego was insane. Artie really thought of himself as a Belushi or Farley. No way in hell
George Harrison led an amazing existence while babysitting a nightmare for more than thirty years and nobody else could have survived that talent tsunami and remained the definition of cool. Could you have sneaked sweets to Clapton ? careful... careful...
I've seen various members of Monty Python paying tribute to Harrison's sense of humour, and he's the reason Life of Brian got made. Fucking hell these folks are ignorant
Listen to how salty Howard sounds when you look back on the scenario. Howard's great, he just didn't wanna give any glory to any other hosts of that time. Some of the funniest appearances on any show was Norm on either Conan or Letterman during those years.
Fuck you I am not a secret gay guy turned terrorist murderer you dumb fuck Go to hell I did not secretly recruit for ISIS using my JFSC videos you dumb fucks haha god why ETM and not fucking High Pitch???
Artie's _suicide_ attempt was _strange._ The _only_ other guy that I ever heard of that killed himself by allegedly stabbing *himself* in the abdomen _multiple times_ was connected to *_Charles Manson._*

Artie makes this crsp up. Sure he forgot the video. Or decided now to show to them. Now making excused he said at first they said it was late. Now he makes new excuse
I knew this back in the day, Howard would get his staff to write and find people to do the calls. Partly to be funny but I'm sure there was some ego shit behind it on Stern's part, but it's too obvious and always has been.
I forgot about the early Artie episodes where Howard was treating Artie like a glorified wack packer like John. It’s cool that Artie stuck to his guns and became the best part of the show for years.
It’s crazy how drastically Artie’s dynamic changed with Stuttering John. Lately, Artie has done nothing but demolish him comedically and make him look like a yammering bozo. It’s funny listening to this clop knowing that 15 years later, Artie gave it back to John tenfold.
This passive-aggressive attack on Artie being the permanent guy or being “stuck here full-time” was also connected to Artie’s agent insisting on him having the leeway to have time away if he gets a job in Hollywood for movie roles, etc. Clearly Howie was put off by such a contractual demand and used this to “put him in his place”. The transparent attempt to act like he was oblivious to the whole thing and that it affected Artie is sickening.
Lmao... Artie was rock solid... as I figured, you can't really upset a real comedian, you can only stoke their passion for flaming others... but this was great clip from back in the day!! Thanks!

+Betaboog His book I believe. I remember him saying he was bummed by the "not a regular" thing.
It should have happened more often, he sucked bad and was such a huge drama queen.
Yep. Howard's literally said that one of the secrets to his success is finding great people and never letting them know how good they are.
Definitely got Howard pegged, but Artie is a bit of a hack. His movies and standup suck, and John’s impression of Art laughing at his own jokes is spot on too.

Meh. Artie had the stories, Jackie had the laugh. It was a more madcap show with Jackie, and story driven with Artie...
Howard’s take on George Harrison is moronic.
He claims to be a Beatles fan, but he clearly doesn’t know how important he was to the band and as a musician.
Howard sounded so jealous of Conan lol.
Chapelle is one of the greatest ever now and always had promise. Howard sounded like such a hater 😂
He is Howard always wanted to be a late night talk show and he probably could have but it has to be his way and he's lazy miserable
Chapelle was on Howards show multiple times, and BEFORE this. So Howard recognized Dave's talent before Conan, yet also simply acknowledged that Dave wasn't an A list guy at this juncture.
Howard said Conan was his favorite interview.
Howard was jealous of people with real talent. Shitting on Conan for having Chappelle as a guest is pathetic.
Boom
He didn't take over the Jackie chair. Jackie was a writer, Artie was not.
Howard is insecure so anytime someone who was affiliated with him did something outside the show he would nitpick it.
Exactly. Richard Christy called him out on it

Natalie Panaro Stack..joe Rogan is a lame..Artie was and always will be a better fit for the show and personalities on it
@@justmissjamey lol are you fucking joking right now?

AJ Benza sure knew it
John really beat that laughing bit into the ground. He has an incredible ability to make something that is funny, incredibly annoying and unfunny in seconds.
John had the most amazing career

Yeah, I meant that the bit shows him as that and why he didn't want out there, I don't think he's a scumbag or misogynist myself

StutJo is a guy that you tell a great joke to, and then later in the evening you catch him telling it to someone else like he thought of it.
He can't relate to deep thoughtful songs compared to Pauls very basic, pop formula
yeah. i know. George was a genius. absolutely. The Beatles are the best band there have ever been.
but relax. it's okay. even for Beatle fans, it's fine. let him have his views. who cares?
George Harrison helped fund month python movies? Did not know this... how cool.
Howard is really contradictory in these older shows. He’s a Beatles fanatic, especially George. I think he pretended a lot back then so more people would think he was edgy
Howard knows dick about music. As evidenced by his favorite, Batdance.
Man, Fred always overdoes it on sound effects. Yeah we got it the first 20 times.

he always used to do that. He would ride that button to death. Its almost like his sound effects werent being pumped into everyones headphones. I just would turn it off when he started, then hop back on it 20...

Goofing on Jackie worked and was endlessly hilarious. With Artie it’s more tense.
Yes he admitted it in another segment one time that he doesn't goof on Artie the same way he does the others because he knows he's more sensitive in a way that comes off sad on the air.

It’s crazy how drastically Artie’s dynamic changed with Stuttering John. Lately, Artie has done nothing but demolish him comedically and make him look like a yammering bozo. It’s funny listening to this clop knowing that 15 years later, Artie gave it back to John tenfold.
John Needs no help looking like a yammering BOZO, he does it well all on his own.
That was a image I think we all could have and should have been spared.. Artie giving it to John. ( Sorry my jokes are terrible I know )
This passive-aggressive attack
on Artie being the permanent guy or being “stuck here full-time” was also connected to Artie’s agent insisting on him having the leeway to have time away if he gets a job in Hollywood for movie roles, etc. Clearly Howie was put off by such a contractual demand and used this to “put him in his place”. The transparent attempt to act like he was oblivious to the whole thing and that it affected Artie is sickening.
Fuck I hate it when Stuttering John feels accepted
Lmao... Artie was rock solid... as I figured, you can't really upset a real comedian, you can only stoke their passion for flaming others... but this was great clip from back in the day!! Thanks!
Oh he got plenty upset many times on Stern. Sal making fun of Beer League definitely was a trigger for Artie.
@@Styles_Breezyea because at the time he was a heroin addict....
@@_crablegs... so? He still was very much prone to getting upset when made fun of.
@@Styles_BreezStill can't believe Artie sold for Sal, whose biggest achievement outside of the Stern Show is his UA-cam cooking channel.
Using the callers to insult Artie while seemingly defending him, Howard isn't Jewish by any chance is he?
Howard and Robin...they know everything.
They were playing Rebel Rebel David Bowie
