My K1000 is operating fantastically EXCEPT very bright photos at /500 and /1000 come out with a dark fade from right to left (darkest on the right). Evidence would say the shutter is beginning to slow / be "gummed up". Someone suggested I CAREFULLY use a craft syringe to put a VERY tiny amount of Ronsonol lighter fuel in the shutter slide when holding down on B. Would you recommend this for this camera? (if something goes horribly wrong I will not hold you responsible.) it is an Asahi Pentax K1000 with a cloth shutter.
Hi! Great video, just wondering how you went about removing the mirror box. I've removed the screws holding the prism and focussing screen mount, are there screws on the bottom that must be removed to take out the mirror box? The mirror is sticking intermittently due to the 2nd shutter curtain not completing its full cycle. Thanks!
Whoa got lucky you recently posted this. Curtains on my old Pentax K stopped advancing today. It looks like of the curtains got stuck and one isn’t even in view anymore. I noticed them sticking last night and today it really jammed. Luckily I hadn’t loaded a new roll in like I was planning. This video shows me that unfortunately it’s beyond my skill set to repair :/ Any idea on what something like this would cost to repair?
Hello Ruben! I would say it's very unlikely yours got to this position, the rods were unscrewed and I ended up needing to remount the whole shutter essentially. I would have to take a look at the camera to give you a full diagnosis obviously but I'm sure it's not as bad as this. That being said it may still need a bit of help, if you want to shoot me an email I can give you a repair estimate or walk you through some potential fixes you could try yourself. Thanks for reaching out!
i took mine to a repair shop and opened the bottom and the entire thing was rusted but outside looked new, nothing will work and turning the winder it doesn’t connect to anything ? should i try to use vinegar to get rid of rust or just buy a new camera
Thanks for demonstrating how complicated that process is. I may thus possibly be forced to send my k1000 your way to fix the shutter problem
I found this video to be very informative and easy to follow. Thank you!

If the mirror goes up sloooowwwly when the shutter is tripped, any thoughts on the cause?
Thanks for these videos!
Thank you very much!
