There is only one word that will affect whether our year will be glorious - wonderful - meaningful - or not. The word is "our". Imagine if instead of the year being our year that we chose this year - and for the rest of our days - to glorify God whether or not it led to our having greater comfort or joy.
It's no use - there is no way to fool God or ourselves - choosing to "focus on God" so that joy might rise up within us won't work. God and your soul would both know that your "service" to him was just a form of therapy. The Bible says our problem is that we are sinners separated from God - using Christianity as an indirect way to serve ourselves is to stay lost in our sin. There is no difference between serving Jesus so that joy will rise up within us and choosing to get high so that joy will rise up in us - or having sex with the first person who walks past us on the street so that joy will rise up within us.
Well that's not quite true - there is one difference. The difference is that HTB gets to run their "church". You do your bit to keep people who haven't got the guts to tell you the truth in business.
