    I love how you always drop a video talking about exactly what I need to learn. I do get a red mark on my finger and I tried losing up a little bit and voila! It worked. it’s so satisfying when I get those instant improvements just by changing something a little bit. Looking forward to the next lesson. Thank you so much Dr. McBrearty.

      Hi Igor! I love hearing this type of comment. It makes all the work these videos take so worth while. I too used to have the first finger mark. It wasn't pleasant playing that way. You will love how free your left hand is when free of this tension. Let me know what else you are working on and maybe I can make a video on that. Thank-you for your kind words.

    Thanks for some of these hints. I am a multiple woodwind player and have been playing flute for more than 50 years. I learned something new today. I am subscribed to your You Tube channel.

    Thank you so much for your tips! I'm a sax player and I am trialing a new trevor james 10x student flute and I can't get over how much easier it plays compared to my gemeinhart flute I bought in 1993! I can play a whole octave higher w this new flute but with this new high register that I can play is a crazy new battle for intonation for me!

      Fantastic! Glad I can help a doubler. TJ's are great instruments.

    I just started getting that mark on my left 1sr finger because I'm trying so hard to loosen up my right pinky. It hasn't resulted in intonation issues, just switched which hand gets sore. Gotta find the right balance somehow.

      Hi GehneeMarie! You definitely need to figure out where the tension is. I have a couple videos on hand positions that might help you. Take a look and see what you think. ua-cam.com/video/FSbVv4vQsAw/v-deo.html

    Why do I play out of tune? Cuz I'm a pretty lazy-about-practicing self-taught jazz-doubler. There that was easy!

    So what are the advantages of moving the head joint in and out again from a tuning perspective. Should I not move it in or out at all? I like to blow more into the hole while I have a tuner to make sure it does not go flat. I'm able to get cleaner high notes this way as well especially dynamically at lower volumes. I can also get the middle and lower notes relatively easier as well without affecting pitch that much.

      Hi! The head joint is for initial tuning to get your flute in general tune. So you would tune your A and then micro adjust from there.

    What's the approximate difficulty or grade level to do okay in a typical college orchestral flute audition?

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  2 роки тому

      In New York it would be a level 6. You need to have pretty good skills for the orchestra. In Fluteworld.com measurements I think it is a 4.
