This scheme does nothing to reduce the use of plastic in our society, in fact it does the opposite as it gives people the impression that they are doing something “ eco friendly “ and that they are saving the planet. I’m a truck driver and one of many that every day I collect 25 pallets of bottled water in the south of Ireland and drive it ( using diesel ) to a distribution centre in the midlands where it is then distributed ( by road) back to the supermarkets. As well as the plastic bottles, each pallet is further wrapped in plastic. All this transport of water when we also have piped water to virtually every house in the country. It’s maddness.
I wish they had a real time guide to which machines are working. If I am humping a big bag of bottles on the bus or in a taxi, I want to know the bloody thing is going to be working when I get there.
If it rejects a plastic bottle, take the cap off,another tip if it rejects cans try again by keeping the barcode on top,as in at 12 Oclock,it works in Germany
@@techbuzzireland can't be,if they where weighed then there's no need to barcode them,it's a new system it just takes time,it works fine here in Germany, Ps l found two redbull cans yesterday on a park bench, 2x 25cent,so 50cent off my shopping bill....
@@techbuzzireland try puting a full can in,it will do the same,it rejects it,it's down to weight and barcode, try and put a empty can from NI with the same weight as a can from the ROI,it will also reject it
I pay oxygen 360 euro a year to recycle my plastics.. are they going to reduce their recycling prices??

It's not supposed to reduce the amount of plastic people use, just the amount that goes straight to landfill.

They are weighed here there's a flaw with their system overall when they do decide to work
