I like the sound quality on this video. Like watching an old golf match on tv.
tried the boiling water trick on the belts on my sony xb6 and now both my cassette decks are working like new.....thank you.
I bought this same tape deck new in 1996/97 at Montgomery Ward when they were going out of business. Still works , but I can tell it's starting to slip when playing. Going to try this belt method.
Thank you I have The Sony TC-WR445 The belts are the same. Thank you for the help. From Don
Cool. Great tip about the hot water. I just bought one of these at a thrift store for $10. Cosmetically it's perfect. But of course the belts are stretched out. I've found replacement sets but they cost more than l paid for the unit. Im goung to give the water treatment a try...
I miss you old cassette dack
Mmm…tape belt tea! 🤤
I've got a HK CD-491 that needs a rejuve.... gonna try the boiling water method, since I replaced the belt a little more than a year ago. Wish me good fortune!
did it?
Got to try the boiling water trick Because My Sony TC-W295 is doing the exact same thing But mine is easier to change ..Thanks much appreciated
Dang, wish I saw this before I bought belts last night.
Hi! What about play speed after changing belts?
One of the two capstan belts is a little bit different from the other one an it has a white sign on it. Now you don't know anymore which one is which...
Wish I could have read the motor number for the capstan.
I miss the 8 tracks..
Ooooh... 8 track QUADROPHONIC!!! Some Lincoln Continentals had the option of Quad with an indash 8 Track player... memories.
Was just given one of these for free. Was gonna take it to the dump. Before I do... Stay tuned.
Electronicle I was looking for a Sony deck from that era and I found some offers, really cheap. The seller is stating that it runs perfectly in general. But somehow I can't believe it. What do you think could be faulty in these types of machines? Of course, other then old belt related?
Any brand tapedeck from the 80's or 90's is going to eventually need some attention. I'm not a sony fanboy but these decks are usually pretty reliable. They might need some belts or pinch rollers eventually but all in all they work really well if taken care of. They however are consumer grade, so don't expect prosumer specs. I'd say go for it if it works and the price is right.
Electronicle Thank you
hello, I have a 561, which is pretty much the same engine. the problem is that it does not lift the head mechanism and rubber rollers. what I see is that this mechanism is very loose. Do you have a schematic with an exploded view so I can see the pieces and their positions? because I think something is missing. thanks.
Shoot me an email, I'll see what I can find. I should. Email is under the about section on my channels page.
you could tell tape decks were not selling anymore by that JUNK they were putting out then
NO NO NO DO IT CORRECTLY /NEW BELTS PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you can find the belts then yes I agree.
Where can I get new belts? Do you have a link to share?
Easiest way is to just check amazon or ebay.
Try turntableneedles.com
I just ordered belts for my tc-wr875 from them
Cheers
Wow, they could have made it less than half the size it is. There's almost nothing in there. :D
How did you remove those ribbon cables so easily? Mine looks like they are permanently affixed to the board because I can't get them to come off. My tape deck is very similar to this one and looks almost the same inside. Its a Sony TC WR445
Depending on the model, some are soldered directly to the board and others are in connectors. If it is using connectors, make sure there isn't a lock holding it in. Sometimes you'll see a latch that you lift up which allows the ribbon to be pulled out. If not, gently work the cable side to side until it comes out. You'll get the feel for it. Good luck!

You seem to be an expert on tape decks and I have a question that I hope you will be able to answer. I have a Sony TC WR445 Dual Tape Deck and lately it has been very finnicky. Its auto reverse but now the auto reverse and rewind function no longer works. Instead, when Play is pressed in the reverse direction, it just goes into the standard direction. Same thing happens with rewind. When I press rewind, it goes into FF.
Also now there are issues with the mechanism that transports the head, roller apparatus into the tape. Sometimes it acts like its trying to to engage but not able to. Other times when I am able to get it to play, it does not disengage when I press stop. When that happens on one Deck, it ends up happening on the other Deck as well. I noticed this when I was recording. Could this be loose belts? I tried boiling them like you did but that did not work.
Take them off the board. and pull them out
