Today, we're diving into another profound saying by Amir al-mu'minin (peace be upon him):
🔹 He who adopts greed as a habit devalues himself; he who discloses his hardship agrees to humiliation; and he who allows his tongue to overpower his soul debases the soul.
🔹 أَزْرَى بِنَفْسِهِ مَنِ اسْتَشْعَرَ الطَّمَعَ وَرَضِيَ بِالذُّلِّ مَنْ كَشَفَ عَنْ ضُرِّهِ وَهَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ نَفْسُهُ مَنْ أَمَّرَ عَلَيْهَا لِسَانَهُ
🔹 Azraa bi-nafsihi mani astash'ara al-tama'a wa radiya bi al-dhulli man kashafa an durrihi wa hanat alayhi nafsuhu man ammara alayha lisanuhu.
Let's break down this saying:
✨ أَزْرَى بِنَفْسِهِ مَنِ اسْتَشْعَرَ الطَّمَعَ (Azra bi-nafsihi mani astash'ara al-tama'): "He who adopts greed as a habit devalues himself."
أَزْرَى (Azra) means "devalues" or "lowers in worth."
بِنَفْسِهِ (Bi-nafsihi) refers to "himself."
اسْتَشْعَرَ الطَّمَعَ (Astash'ara al-tama') translates to "adopts greed" or "feels greed."
✨ وَرَضِيَ بِالذُّلِّ مَنْ كَشَفَ عَنْ ضُرِّهِ (Wa radiya bi al-dhulli man kashafa an durrihi): "He who discloses his hardship agrees to humiliation."
رَضِيَ (Radiya) means "agrees" or "consents."
بِالذُّلِّ (Bi al-dhulli) refers to "humiliation" or "disgrace."
كَشَفَ عَنْ ضُرِّهِ (Kashafa an durrihi) translates to "discloses his hardship" or "reveals his distress."
✨ وَهَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ نَفْسُهُ مَنْ أَمَّرَ عَلَيْهَا لِسَانَهُ (Wa hanat alayhi nafsuhu man ammara alayha lisanuhu): "He who allows his tongue to overpower his soul debases the soul."
هَانَتْ (Hanat) means "debases" or "degrades."
عَلَيْهِ (Alayhi) refers to "upon him" or "over him."
أَمَّرَ عَلَيْهَا لِسَانَهُ (Ammara alayha lisanuhu) translates to "allows his tongue to overpower his soul" or "lets his tongue control his soul."

Imam Ali's profound words offer timeless guidance on the importance of integrity, humility, and self-control. They remind us to:
Guard against greed to preserve our self-worth.
Maintain dignity even in adversity by not publicizing our hardships.
Master our speech to elevate our souls and avoid degrading ourselves.
