    By far the best quality analysis.

    Lasker was one of, if not the, last of the 19th century Grandmasters. "Lasker's Manual of Chess" is my go-to tome, classical notation notwithstanding.

    I can't understand why this channel is not more popular. Daniel King is a known chess commentator. Older people remember him having covered the notorious chess match between Kasparov and Deep Blue in 1997. Younger players should know him for the excellent chess material he made for ChessBase and Chessable. I'm keeping an eye on other channels including Spanish language chess channels, and they have easily over 200K followers. Their content is ok but not as good as Daniel's content.

      I think the content may be too advanced for most players.

      I sort of like the fact that his incredible analyses and genial commentary is our little secret in a very privileged club.

      I think danial makes kinda of higher lvl content. Like 1600+ elo something. Most people don't get it.

    I always thought that Lasker recognised how good Capablanca was and purposely dodged him for years - but you bring a different perspective to it - especially the bit about Lasker wanting to resign his crown...

    Even the southern U.S. would have suited Lasker better than tropical Havana.
    So close, but yes cigar.

    My favourite Queen's gambit game is Kasparov - Duer, 1981. It's the reason that I've started playing the Queen's gambit about 25 years ago and I still play it in the way Kasparov did in that game: Bg5 and Bxf6 (preferably after black plays h6), long castle, Rooks on g1 and h1 and attack with g4 and h4!

      Great game and a strategy that is very common. Of course, there are ways of dealing with this...

    Continuing the queen’s gambit series Yesterday i watched your Video from 2016 London chess classic Topalov vs Anand.
    This game was a queens gambit with a sharp novelty b4 from Anand. Lovely game. Great Analysis.

    What was the better move than Bb7 for black? Is it first Nxd5 and only then it, to be able to exchange the active Bg5 and be left with own active pieces?

    • @PowerPlayChess
      @PowerPlayChess  3 роки тому

      Instead of 11...Bb7 (which is decent), Black could have played 11...Nxd5, as analysed afterwards by Euwe (for example). It is a very straightforward way of playing: 12 Qxd5 Bb7 13 Bxe7 Qxe7 14 Qg5 Qxg5 15 Nxg5 cxd4 16 Rd1 Nf6 17 Rxd4 Rbc8 with excellent compensation for the pawn.

    As someone who grew up in Florida without air-conditioning, Havana must have been terrible for a European.

      There was a discussion afterwards between Capablanca and Lasker about the conditions of the match. It was played in March / April when temperatures, while hot, were not excessive. Game sessions were 9pm - 1am, so that the temperature was cooler. Capablanca stated that there were occasions when the doors had to be closed as it became too cool. But in a sense this is irrelevant. Lasker had visited Cuba previously, knew the conditions and agreed to play there.

      @@PowerPlayChess As someone who is married to a Cuban national and who has been to the country many times at various times of the year, I can tell you that the heat and humidity in Cuba are ever present. There is also little difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures in Cuba. Super video as always. Great idea to revisit this historic match.

    Why did Lasker go for the exchange sacrifice? He wasn't forced into it. And the immediate advantage wasn't overwhelming.

    • @Qhsjahajw
      @Qhsjahajw 3 роки тому

      I think seirawan mentioned that it was sort of forced , as Capa was up a pawn without any straightforward compensation
