For real????? I wish she wouldn't have said that. It hurts. Why doesn't she google the artist first and get familial with his story before she reacts to his work? She should at least pay some respect to the artist. Billy Joel was singing and composing way before she was born. Sorry, I get offended when it comes to mine, and his music is in the background of the picture of my life.
Billy Joel is one of those artists who just keeps going and going. He's had a string of hits going back over 30 years. He is currently running a series of once a month concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He said he'd play a show a month as long as people will come, as of right now he's up to 77 continous shows dating back to 2013!
@@malcolmdrake6137 He made three more hi5 albums after Innocent Man and half a dozen sold out world tours, all after Innocent Man. Sure he was finished 🤨
@@malcolmdrake6137 Billy Joel after his An Innocent Man album had 16 singles make the US Billboard Top 100 Chart, with We Didn't Start the Fire reaching #1, The River of Dreams #3, I Go to Extremes #6, You're Only Human (Second Wind) #9 and both Modern Woman and A Matter of Trust" reaching #10. In the UK after An Innocent Man, ten singles charted, including The River of Dreams at #3, We Didn't Start the Fire at #7, All Shook Up at #27 and All About Soul at #32. Albums wise after An Innocent Man, The Bridge sold 2.5 million, Storm Front sold over 5 million and River of Dreams sold almost 7 million, plus several of his compilation albums have sold multiple millions too.
The details of his life muddy this a little, but when Paul McCartney was asked which song he wished he had written, he picked this. And in fact it is very much the kind of record Macca would have done back in the day.
Billy the king of "love truth". Sings about "experiences" of the heart that just about everyone goes through. My favorite song of his "The longest time". My girlfriend at that time sang it to me and it blew me away! One of the best memories of my lifetime! Great reaction! I just subscribed!
Billy Joel did write this song, for his wife at the time, Liz. He almost didn't release it, but a singer named Linda Ronstadt encouraged him to. She's Always a Woman is another beautiful song by Billy Joel, that you might want to check out. His song Piano Man is also pretty amazing... one person in a pub can start singing it, and the rest of the pub will join in and sing along.
Hi Georgia, Nice. Good album....So good to see your not just reviewing rock music....Here's a classic - "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty. The sax on that track is legendary. It's an emotional song so have your tissues ready. Byee X
When this came out I was listening to Black Sabbath's song Dirty Women. There was a war between radio stations that played easy listening music vs. hard rock. 🤘
He wrote it for his first wife. Billy Joel is one of my favorite artists. I love all his stuff but lately I’ve been really into his music about social issues at the time. You should check out ‘we didn’t start the fire’ and ‘Leningrad’. A couple other good ones are ‘keeping the Faith’, ‘Longest Time’ and Lullaby’
this song tells me about my very firast, strong crash. crush. nevermind, i'm not english native, but that music, that story, that feeling will forever something very important to me

Hi Georgia....nice change of pace! I can tell when the music reaches your soul by the reactions on your face, and I can see it in your eyes, too. I'm so glad that your exploring many different types of music! Music can definitely bring happiness and a feeling of well being into our lives, keep doing what you're doing...it's so nice to see the happiness on your face and in your pretty eyes when the music is reaching you!🙂
Billy Joel belongs on the list of the best songwriters up there with Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney. Not so much for the technical aspect as the other two, though he was not bad, his storytelling ability was definitely second to none. As a side note, this song gave me and still does give me some serious Stevie Wonder vibes.
I'm a bit of a sucker for this sort of thing, even though it doesn't resemble my normal listening. I think my favourite song as a kid (nicely dating me) was Andrew Gold doing 'Never Let Her Slip Away'. Rather odd as I spent the rest of the time being educated in my elder brother's Kiss albums...
This guy has such a great list of music that you've heard all your life... max relax and take it easy. He's got lots of faster stuff... We didn't statt the fire, all rockandroll to me, only the good die young...
It’s from 1977. A great time. I was just born but still, growing up in the 80’s was a similar great time that I wish youth today could experience. It’s seriously sad. Sad that they can’t experience the blessing of growing up in those days and sad because those of us that did can never go back. 😭 🤙🏻You have a good taste in music though, that’s refreshing from someone your age these days.
Billy Joel il più completo e versatile songwriter .... Ha affrontato ogni tipo di musica sempre con il massimo dei risultato .... Talento .... Questa stupenda canzone nel suo repertorio e' una delle meno belle
There are a couple more songs on this album that are great tunes... "The Stranger", and "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant". The whole album is great, but the stories in both of these songs will grab your attention.
Oh yes dear Georgia, I agree with you! This is a great song which always gives you a nice feeling, and I say this as a metalhead normally....Glad you enjoyed it also añd I hope you are doing well again!
Billy doesn't play this song in concerts much. For one it's a bit sappy, but more important is the story behind it. He was once asked to play it for someone at a gig who said they got married to it. 'That's nice', he says, 'I got divorced to it.' It was written for his then manager and wife. He played it for her and she said 'Do I get the rights?' They split not long after.
Always love the Blondie report. Valentine songs hope you check out Ramones - I want you around - I remember you - I just want to have something to do. 3 songs Thanks
If your doing Billy, you gotta do "We didn't start the fire." It's a song of important world events that happened during his life. He does it by sort of listing the events in a sing song style. much more up tempo than this one. Don't let this song fool you. A lot of his songs are much more edgier than this one. By the way this is billy joels ex wife of many years. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christie_Brinkley. Some of his hits during the middle part of his career were inspired by her. He is from Long Island about 15 miles or so from where I live. But now I believe he lives in the Hamptons. Or he did anyway.
Try "Captain Jack"...LOL.. He wouldn't sing this from the mid '80s until about 5 years ago because it had Masturbate in the song, but in New York one night they kept chanting Captain Jack and so he sung it and does every so often now. It's by far his best song to me. With lines like, And you stare at the junkies and the closet queens, It's like some pornographic magazine, And you smile...OR...So you play your albums, and you smoke your pot, And you meet your girlfriend in the parking lot....its in a league of its own.
Songfacts: Joel wrote this song about his first wife, Elizabeth. A pure expression of unconditional love, he gave it to her as a birthday present. Sadly, after nine years of marriage, Joel and Elizabeth divorced in 1982. Joel's next two marriages didn't work out either: he was married to Christie Brinkley from 1985-1994, and to Katie Lee from 2004-2010. "Every time I wrote a song for a person I was in a relationship with, it didn't last," Joel said. "It was kind of like the curse. Here's your song - we might as well say goodbye now."
You are in for a ride brighteyes. Billy has many, many, songs in his repertoire. A large number of them top twenty hits. Some are soft and smooth love songs Some are rock song party anthems And some seem to be a blend (his music videos do seem a little campy, but they still come across as fun) (p.s, You are going to hear some songs that aren't pop. "I wonder if he wrote this"
You can almost always be sure if he's singing a song he wrote it. he's one of the best storytellers of all time.
Yeah, no kidding!

This was my sister's wedding song in 1982, they are still married.
How cute man😭😭
Also one of the songs at my wedding in 94 and still married to the same women ;)

I thank God I grew up in this era .When there were musicians not just entertainers like now.
It's a good "wholesome" song. No frills, ..just soft meaningful music.
Bought that album when it came out. (Yeah, I'm old. lol)
One of the greatest soft rock songs of the 70s, "We've Only Just Begun" 1970 video. The Carpenters, Karen Carpenter sings and plays the drums.
This song takes me back to 1978 lying in bed at night listening to this song on the radio as a 13 yr old!

Scenes From An Italian Restaurant
Only the Good Die Young
Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)

My favorite Billy Joel song. Love the saxophone.

Trivia tidbit: The sax on that track was provided by one of the all-time greats of jazz - Phil Woods.
Happy Valentine's day Georgia, you too joel

The Stranger (1977). Still his best.
