Here's a tip for ground cherry growers! Use tomato cages to train your ground cherry branches' up and through & leave them on all season'. Do this when the branches are still young & more pliable so you don't snap them off, as the plant grows train more branches through the cage. Doing this keeps the lower branches off the ground so that it is much easier to collect the berries. I've grown them with & without the cages, & the caged ones are so much easier to harvest from! I made ground cherry jam last week YUM, tastes a little like apricot jam to me.

Oh goodness I wish I would have done this. lol I have a 4x8 raised bed that I bought to grow my carrots & onions in. I popped a few ground cherries in with them. Well... They took over. lol I have so many ground cherries I have no idea what to do with them after I make jam for the year. 🤣

GREAT VIDEO We grow 4 different verities of Physalis on our small 6 acre free range chicken farm in Georgia. These are Nightshades and the chickens will not eat or disturb the plants. Some plants are perennials and some drop their seed and self plant for the next year. We enjoy them every way you can imagine. In this video you mentioned adding Vanilla Extract. We buy vanilla beans, cut a slit in the side of the bean and leave them in a bottle of Captain Morgan Spice Rum for about 5 years. As we use it up in recipes then we add a little bit of regular rum from time to time. This is a guaranteed SMILE GENERATOR.

Thank you Jess for introducing Mark!
I discovered him & his Ground Cherry jam recipe and video in Sept 2021. It was my 1st time growing Ground Cherries. One Aunt Molly's plant produced enough fruit to make a batch of jam!! The plant was huge. Diameter was larger than a bushel basket! This year's plants struggled. (4 plants produced enough for 1 batch of jam) Here in central PA, we had temps in the 90's and near drought conditions. Watering by hand kept the plants growing, but not really able to produce as much fruit as last year. Mark's instuctions were easy...and fun to follow! The resulting jam is delicious! Our 4 1/2 yr old grandson raves about to everyone :) I was desperate to find Marks video again for this year's batch of jam..Sept 2022. So happy that I did. Like I said, it's easy and fun to follow! He's a gem!
    Thank you Mark!!

The reason you don’t tighten your rings super tight is because if for some reason your jar was too full, the jar contents has somewhere to escape the liquid and not bust your jar.

I share your love of canning. I'm always looking for unique jam/jelly recipes. I can some of each batch in 4 oz. jars & give jam/jelly sampler packs as gifts. They work for almost every occasion, Housewarming, Thank You, Hostess, birthday, you name it.
Air needs to escape from the jar to create a vacuum seal. If you crank your rings on tight you risk spoilage.
