I really feel for these craftsman. They have skill and talent with such rudimentary equipment. For the horses that have to endure wearing these saddles I have the utmost sympathy. The tree, the supports - the actual base this saddle is made on is totally flawed in design. The materials used are not long lasting, nails should never be used, metal trees with overlapping edges etc etc. There is a reason that handmade saddle costs thousands of dollars. They are durable, safe, last for years and are made to fit the horse they were designed, measured up for.
Actually apart.from the lack of templates.and lamination the basic design is like any quality tree. And nails are defintely used on handmade european saddles as well. But you are right that no horse should have to endure these saddles given the crappy synthetic panels with way too narow channel between.

Absolutely brilliant… skills like this in one of the designer houses would be priceless… if only they can automate some of the process and get some precision tools, they could become a designer label… need to creat a catalogue and a few other accessories like saddle bags, boots and gloves…
Im just sayin, from experience these handmade wooden trees saddles like these fall apart within a span of 2 to 3 years of use,and sometimes they just real bad quality, the whole saddle flexs when you put some pressure on it which you do not want on a saddle, there are saddles specifically made to flex in some parts but on the bars and where you sit you want absolutely no flex at all, otherwise when your riding the saddle fit Changes which causes pain because it gets wider and then sits wrong on the scapila, which makes pressure points which can also give saddle sores, also the whole damn seat flexes when you sit on the thing, and simply sometimes the stirrup hangers break off the saddle when your riding. Also the way he attaches the cinch rigging its gonna break off at some point. The leather is also just plain cheap too it gets cracks from simply exposure to the sun from short periods of time, rips like fabric sometimes and can be soo hsrd and stiff after their done with all the chemicals they use, all you actually need is water to wet the leather to shape and form it and to make it easier to work with and for tooling and the glue they use is simply just horrible sometimes. The flocking(padding on the underside) simply isn't enough and far down enough and the gullet is too narrow all teh way through, the space in between should be much much more far apart to fit nicely on the horse. These saddles can be good for someone on a budget, indian saddles are the cheapest and lowest end you can get in the equestrian world, and its because most of the time there made skew or incorrect to fit a horse properly,, and you simply can't use a saddle thats skew, , its just those trees are a horrible weak point, and sometimes they just use horrible quality materials. But most of the time their low quality, and thats why their so cheap.
@@IrfanA7861 somebody who's been riding for 20years and someone who's been riding for 2 months, the saddle takes the same forces and stresses because there is only one way to sit in the saddle and use it, if I go trail riding and the other guy just rides around the farm, the weight still goes through the stirrups into the hangers into the tree, when your walking, your weight is mostly on the seat and a little bit on the stirrups when your relaxed, your weight on a saddle should be 75% seat and 25% on the stirrups when your stirrups are the right length, when your jogging, trotting, loping, cantering and galloping, your weight is mostly 50/50 because of the movement.
i have to disagree with you on that. i have never sat or seen a wooden tree saddle that flexed under weight or pressure and if anything they feel very stiff. i own several older german saddles with handmade trees and have never experienced any problems, i think a skilled indian saddlemaker with the right resources would no doubt be able to create a tree of the same quality. a friend of mine had a custom western saddle tree made by an indian manufacturer and the fit was simply astounding, she had sent a wire mold of her horses back and it only took a little more than a month in total. overall it was definitely a wonderful experience

Fuck. Manual, precise, hard work. It looks great. I did not live to see the final because it already upset me. Artificial foam as a filling? After 2 years, the foam will crumble! Since it was hand-made, it had to be filled with felt. The working conditions, however, were tragic. Health and immunity for saddlers and their relatives to COVID.
Thank you! Finally someone is mentioning some critical words! Never would I ever put this saddle on a horse! The spine canal is much too small and it will hurt the nerves of the horses back right next to the spine. Nevertheless, these men are doing a hard and amazing job with very accurate build up skills! My admiration! If only someone tells them to redesign the saddle cushions... I am sure they are just the producers, not the designers.
@@brigittekoch1041 I only rode a horse bareback, without a saddle. I don't know anything about the construction of the saddle !!! I believe that each saddle should be made individually for each horse. Yours, joy and resistance to COVID 😘 !!!
In the UK these are known as Indian saddles. They are a fraction of the price of a UK made saddle and no one wants one. Why? The leather is poor quality, the stitching isn't good and they aren't adjustable and they can be hard to sit on. The flocking is often uneven which is painful for the hose. Even if you knew nothing about saddles and put a UK saddle and Indian saddle side by side you would see the difference instantly. I have a friend who has just paid £3.000 for a saddle, the saddle fitter will fit it and return regularly to re flock and adjust it. Also there are excellent synthetic saddles (Wintec) on the market, I use two all the time, there are light, comfortable, adjustable and easy to clean. Ebay is full of these saddles, Indian saddlers really need to up their game.
They are from Pakistan not india. They are of real good quailty. They are made of pure leather and proper stitching. We don't export. All they make is for local use of polo and army. You know polo is invented in pakistan and its a very serious thing here. Specially the teams of gilgit and chitral have a very old rivalry and these two cities play at highest playground in the world shindoor
These are not Indian. They are Pakistanis. As in most cases (like restruants etc) most Pakistani goods are sold in UK/EU as Made in India products. But the truth is, both in India and in Pakistan there one can buy high quality Product at higher prices. It's just that those HQ saddles are simply not exported to UK due to high import duties and taxes imposed on them, which in fact will make them costlier than local Stuff made in UK. If you visit places like Karachi (Pakistan) or Bangalore (India) you will understand what I mean. The old quality of European/ UK products in general have deteriorated since past decade. For instance, I bought a really expensive Swiss watch from it's country of origin. To my utter surprise during a regular service, the watch turned out to be only 30-50% made in EU and rest including it's hard case come from lower quality vendors from China.
Nice. Looks very much like a Kanpuri (Cawnpoori for you old English buffs) saddle that we had in our house when I was a kid. It was also hand made in Kanpur but had a slightly flatter/ wider seat. Very comfortable it was too. You could ride for 2 to 4 hours on hilly treks and still feel it was comfortable. I saw some modern things like open and closed cell foam cushions here that did not exist then. They used wads of wool or hair to achieve softness then. The saddles outlasted many horses and were totally maintenance free, if you just hung them up after the ride. Brought back childhood memory. Thank you.
